Caliypso Black Ocean Lemonade 100ml at a glance

Caliypso 100ml Shortfill E-Liquid Black Ocean Lemonade is a large bottle of lemonade-flavoured vape juice from the Caliypso range, sold at £7.99. It carries 0mg of nicotine as supplied, and that single detail is what makes it a shortfill. The nicotine is left out on purpose, and the bottle is made with spare headroom so an adult vaper can add nicotine shots afterwards if they want a strength. Leave it untouched and you simply have 100ml of nicotine-free e-liquid.

Shortfills confuse people who are used to buying 10ml bottles, so it is worth spelling out why they exist. In the UK, a bottle of e-liquid that contains nicotine is capped at 10ml, and the nicotine strength is capped at 20mg/ml. Those limits do not apply in the same way to a bottle with no nicotine inside, which is why 100ml sizes can be sold at all. You get far more liquid for your money, and you decide whether to add nicotine or not. Shortfill e-liquids are the usual choice for people running larger refillable tanks, because those tanks get through liquid quickly and a 10ml bottle can vanish in a couple of days.

Here is what we can say for certain about this listing:

  • Product: Caliypso 100ml Shortfill E-Liquid Black Ocean Lemonade
  • Format: shortfill bottle, sold nicotine-free at 0mg
  • Flavour: Black Ocean Lemonade, tagged as lemonade and lemon in our catalogue
  • Price: £7.99 for the bottle
  • Range: one of 37 Caliypso products on the site, all of them 100ml, 0mg and £7.99

Just as important is what the listing does not tell us. The VG/PG split and the exact bottle dimensions are printed on the label rather than held in our product data, so check the bottle when it arrives instead of assuming. The rest of this page covers how the format works, what the flavour is aiming for, how to mix it, and what can go wrong.

How a shortfill bottle works in practice

Think of a shortfill as a recipe with one ingredient held back. The e-liquid inside is complete apart from the nicotine, and the bottle is deliberately larger than the liquid it holds. That unused space is what lets you pour in one or two 10ml nicotine shots later, then shake everything together. If you never add a shot, the space simply sits there as a bit of air, which is also handy because it gives you room to shake the bottle without it feeling overfull.

For a 100ml shortfill, the common arrangement across UK bottles is a 120ml container holding 100ml of liquid, leaving room for two 10ml shots. That is a convention rather than a rule, and we do not want to put a number on this specific bottle that the label might contradict. When the parcel arrives, read the side of the bottle. The label shows the liquid volume, the shortfill wording, and usually a line telling you the maximum number of shots the bottle was designed to take.

Nicotine shots are a separate product. They come in 10ml bottles, usually at 18mg/ml, and they are sold on the understanding that you will mix them into a larger volume of 0mg liquid. Once mixed, the nicotine is spread across the whole bottle, so the strength drops. We cover the exact arithmetic in the strength section further down, but the headline is that two 18mg shots in a 100ml shortfill land at 3mg.

This is also a perfectly sensible way to buy plain nicotine-free e-liquid. Plenty of people use a 0mg bottle exactly as it comes, either because they have stopped using nicotine or because they enjoy the flavour and the hand-to-mouth habit without it. Both uses are valid, and the bottle does not care which one you pick. What matters is that you decide before you fill the tank, because once nicotine is in the bottle you cannot take it back out.

What the Black Ocean Lemonade flavour is aiming for

Lemonade is a deceptively simple flavour to build and an easy one to get wrong. Too sweet and it reads as sugar syrup. Too sharp and it tastes like cleaning product. The good ones sit in the middle, with a bright, slightly acidic lemon front and a rounded sweetness underneath that keeps your mouth watering rather than puckering. That is the target for any bottle with lemonade in its name, and Black Ocean Lemonade belongs to that family.

Our catalogue tags this product with two flavour descriptors, lemonade and lemon, and nothing else. There is no ice or menthol tag on it. That matters when you compare it with its neighbours in the range. The Iceberg Ocean Lemonade bottle carries an ice tag as well, so if a cold, crisp finish is what you are after, Iceberg is the one that points that way, while Black Ocean Lemonade does not claim it.

The Ocean Lemonade line is colour-coded. Alongside Black there are Blue, Deep Blue, Green, Iceberg, Orange, Pink, Purple, Rainbow and Red variants, all sold in the same 100ml size at the same price. The colour name hints at a mood or a twist on the base lemonade, but the maker has not given us a tasting breakdown, and we would rather tell you that than invent notes. If you try this bottle, expect a lemonade first and treat the finer detail as something to discover.

Some practical points apply to any sweet citrus liquid. Flavour comes across more clearly at moderate power than at the top of your coil's range, because heat flattens delicate citrus notes. Sweeteners in lemonade juices also tend to build up on a coil faster than they do with plain tobacco or menthol liquids, so expect to change coils a little sooner. And because lemon is an acidic flavour, a lot of vapers find it works best when they are not chain vaping, letting the palate reset between puffs.

Who this bottle suits and who should look elsewhere

Not everyone needs 100ml of anything. This bottle is aimed squarely at adults who already own a refillable device and use it often enough that bulk makes sense. If you have a sub-ohm tank or a larger refillable pod and you find yourself topping up daily, a big bottle saves you repeat orders and brings the cost per millilitre down.

It also suits people who like to control their own nicotine. Because the bottle ships at 0mg, you can leave it at zero, add a single shot for a light strength, or add two for a slightly firmer one. That flexibility is the main reason experienced vapers keep a few shortfills on the shelf.

Flavour is the other draw. If you gravitate towards citrus, sharp-sweet drinks, or anything lemonade-adjacent, this is a straightforward example without a complicated recipe. People who get bored easily might like that the range is wide: 37 Caliypso products share the same format and price, so swapping flavours does not mean relearning how to mix.

Equally, there are people who should look elsewhere. Anyone using a closed-pod device that takes only prefilled cartridges cannot use a shortfill at all, because there is nowhere to pour it. Anyone who wants a high nicotine strength in the style of a 10mg or 20mg nic salt will find a shortfill awkward, since the dilution limits how strong it can get. And anyone who wants something pocketable for a night out will find a 100ml bottle bulky compared with a disposable or a small pod.

If you are weighing up hardware, our vape kits page covers starter kits, pod kits and larger refillable setups, and it is worth checking that your device has a fill port and a tank capacity that suits a bottle this size. Everything on the site is for adults aged 18 or over only, and nobody should start using nicotine products if they do not already use them.

Price, volume and what a millilitre costs

Numbers first. At £7.99 for 100ml, this bottle works out at roughly 8p per millilitre before you add anything to it. That figure is the headline reason shortfills are popular. The same money spent on 10ml bottles would buy you far less liquid.

To put it in context, take the site's 5 for £10 offer on 10ml nic salt e-liquids. That is £2 per bottle, or 20p per millilitre, so the shortfill is a fraction of the per-millilitre price. The comparison is not perfectly fair, because nic salts come with nicotine in them and a shortfill does not, and a nic salt works in different hardware. But if your device takes a larger tank and you are comfortable with 0mg or with mixing your own, the cost gap is real. You can browse the 5 for 10 e-liquid deals if you want to run the numbers on your own setup.

Think about how long a bottle will last. If you get through about 3ml a day, a 100ml bottle covers more than a month. If you only vape 1ml a day, it stretches to over three months. Those are illustrations rather than promises, since consumption depends on your device, your wattage and how you vape. Heavy tank users burn through liquid noticeably faster than pod users.

Remember the add-on costs. Nicotine shots are bought separately and add to the total if you choose to use them. A coil change every week or two also adds up, particularly with a sweet liquid.

Delivery is worth a quick calculation. Standard delivery is free over £20, and £2.99 under that. One bottle is £7.99, two come to £15.98, and three reach £23.97, which crosses the free delivery line. If you know you will use the flavour, buying three, or mixing in other bottles from the Caliypso range, means you stop paying for postage.

Setting up a tank or pod for a thick shortfill

Before the first fill, check two things: your tank's fill port and your coil. A shortfill is designed for refillable devices, and the combination matters more than the liquid. Most large tanks have a top-fill or side-fill opening that takes a bottle nozzle directly, but some pod kits have small fill ports that need a slim tip. Whether the nozzle on your bottle is slim enough varies, so check it when the parcel arrives and keep a small funnel or a blunt-tip syringe handy if it is not.

A sensible set-up routine looks like this:

  • Rinse a new tank with warm water and let it dry fully before the first fill.
  • Fit a coil rated for the liquid thickness. Lower-resistance coils with larger wicking holes suit thicker, high-VG juices, while tighter pod coils suit thinner liquids. Check the VG/PG ratio on the bottle.
  • Add a few drops of e-liquid directly onto the coil's wicking holes to prime it.
  • Fill the tank to just under the maximum line, taking care not to flood the central airflow tube.
  • Wait five to ten minutes so the cotton can soak up the liquid evenly.
  • Start at the low end of the coil's recommended power range and work upwards.

Skipping the wait is the single most common cause of a burnt first coil. Cotton that has not soaked through will scorch the moment you fire, and a scorched coil leaves a taste you cannot fix.

If you use a pod kit rather than a tank, look at refillable vape pods and confirm that yours has a fill port and not a sealed cartridge. Many popular closed systems rely on prefilled pods, and those do not take a shortfill. Wattage and airflow depend entirely on the device you own, so use the manufacturer's guidance for those instead of copying numbers from a forum.

Choosing a nicotine strength from 0mg upwards

The maths decides everything here, so let us do it properly. Final strength equals the total milligrams of nicotine you add, divided by the total millilitres in the bottle. Nicotine shots in the UK are usually sold as 10ml at 18mg/ml, and some brands go up to the 20mg/ml legal limit. A 100ml shortfill gives you the options below, assuming the bottle has room for the shots (confirm on the label).

  • No shot: 100ml at 0mg, exactly as supplied
  • One 18mg shot: 110ml at about 1.6mg
  • Two 18mg shots: 120ml at 3mg
  • One 20mg shot: 110ml at about 1.8mg
  • Two 20mg shots: 120ml at about 3.3mg

That is the whole range you can reach without removing any liquid first. If you want a higher strength, pouring some of the e-liquid out to make space for more shots is possible but fiddly, and it is easy to get the ratio wrong. A cleaner route is to choose a different product altogether. Nicotine salt e-liquids come ready mixed at fixed strengths such as 10mg and 20mg, and they are built for the smaller pod devices that a thick shortfill does not suit.

How do you choose between none, one or two shots? A rough guide used across the UK vaping community is that larger tanks with a lot of airflow are paired with lower strengths, because you are inhaling plenty of vapour per puff. Smaller, tighter devices go with higher strengths. Treat that as a starting point, not a prescription.

If you do not use nicotine already, leave the bottle at 0mg. Nobody should start using nicotine because a shot is handy. If you do use it and are changing format, start lower than you think you need and adjust over a few days. Always mix new batches clearly labelled so you remember what you made, and keep nicotine shots away from children and pets at all times.

Mixing, steeping and storing the bottle

Preparing a shortfill takes about two minutes. If you are adding nicotine, work on a clean, dry surface, wash your hands first, and follow the steps in order:

  • Check the bottle label for the maximum shot count and the liquid volume.
  • Open the shortfill cap, then open the nicotine shot.
  • Pour or squeeze the shot into the shortfill bottle, taking care to leave a little air at the top.
  • Close the cap tightly and shake the bottle for about thirty seconds.
  • Write the strength and the date on the bottle with a marker or a label.
  • Leave the bottle to rest for a few hours, or overnight if you can wait.

The resting stage is sometimes called steeping. Many shortfills are drinkable straight away, but resting lets the nicotine blend fully and lets the flavour settle, so the first tank tastes like the tenth. With a fruit and citrus profile, you do not need the days-long steeping that some dessert liquids ask for. A few hours and a final shake before filling is plenty.

Storage matters more than most people expect. Keep the bottle upright with the cap tight, somewhere cool and out of direct sunlight, away from radiators, windowsills and cars on a warm day. Heat and light break down flavour and can darken the liquid over time. A drawer or a cupboard shelf is ideal. Do not decant into unlabelled containers, since a bottle without a label is a hazard in a household with children or pets.

Once opened, plan on using a bottle within a few months for the best flavour. Lemon notes tend to fade first, so if a bottle has been half full on a shelf for ages and tastes flat, that is usually why. Nicotine shots should be stored apart from the shortfill, ideally in their own box out of reach of anyone who should not be handling them.

Honest pros and cons of this particular bottle

Start with what works in its favour. The price per millilitre is low for the format, and the 100ml volume saves you from reordering every few days. The flavour is a recognisable lemonade rather than a complicated blend, which makes it easy to know what you are buying. The 0mg starting point gives you control: leave it plain, or add a shot or two. And because the whole Caliypso range shares one size and one price, you can swap flavours without changing your routine.

  • Low cost per millilitre compared with 10ml bottles
  • Large volume suits tank users who top up often
  • Straightforward lemonade flavour, tagged lemonade and lemon
  • You choose the nicotine strength, including none
  • Same format and price across 37 Caliypso products

Now the limits. A shortfill is bulky, and it needs a refillable device, so anyone with a closed-pod kit cannot use it. The strength ceiling is modest, around 3mg with two shots, which is a poor fit for people used to 10mg or 20mg salts. Mixing takes a few minutes and a little care. And a big bottle is only a bargain if you actually use it, because opened liquid does not keep indefinitely.

  • Needs a refillable tank or pod, so it is no use in closed-pod kits
  • Maximum strength with shots is only a few milligrams
  • More hands-on than a ready-to-use product
  • Sweet lemonade can shorten coil life
  • Bulky to carry compared with smaller formats

If the cons outweigh the pros for you, the simplest alternative is a ready-to-use product. Disposable vapes need no mixing, no refilling and no coil changes, though the cost per puff is usually higher and there is a lot more packaging to throw away. The right choice depends on whether you value convenience or economy more.

Fixing weak flavour, leaks and gurgling

Most complaints about a new bottle come down to the set-up rather than the liquid. Work through the usual suspects before deciding something is wrong with the juice.

Weak or flat flavour. The most likely cause is an old coil. Sweet liquids leave a film on the cotton, and once that builds up the flavour dulls. Swap in a fresh coil before anything else. Other causes are power set too high for the coil, a tank that is nearly empty, and a palate worn out from vaping the same flavour all day. Try a day on something different and come back.

Dry or burnt hits. This almost always means the cotton is not fully soaked. Prime the coil properly, wait after filling, and avoid chain vaping, which drains the wick faster than it refills. If you have already burnt a coil, replace it. The taste does not recover.

Leaking. Check that the tank is not overfilled, that the base and top cap are screwed down fully, and that the seals have not slipped. Pressure changes on a flight can push liquid out, so keep tanks empty or stored upright when travelling. A coil that sits loose in its seat is another common culprit.

Gurgling or spitting. Condensation in the airflow tube makes a gurgling sound and can flick hot droplets onto your tongue. Wipe the drip tip and the airflow channel, lower the power slightly, and check that the coil is seated properly.

Sticky residue on the tank. Sweet liquids leave sugar behind. A rinse in warm water and a thorough dry fixes it.

Replacement parts are easy to find in the vape coils section, which lists coils for a wide range of popular kits. If a bottle arrives damaged or you suspect a genuine fault, get in touch with the shop and we will help. Faulty items can be returned within thirty days.

Pairing with other Caliypso flavours and formats

Once you know you like a lemonade, the rest of the range is an obvious next step. Caliypso sells 37 products on the site, every one a 100ml shortfill at £7.99 and 0mg, so there is no price penalty for trying something different.

The Ocean Lemonade family, as noted earlier, runs through Blue, Deep Blue, Green, Iceberg, Orange, Pink, Purple, Rainbow and Red. If you want to explore beyond lemonade, the range also includes Surf and Wave lines, such as the Black Surf bottle, plus Dark Cherry Lemonade, which sits between cherry and lemonade. Across the whole brand, our data lists flavour tags including orange, cherry, lime, pineapple, apple, strawberry, mixed berries, mango and tropical fruit, alongside ice for the cooler options. In other words, there is plenty of choice within a single brand.

Many vapers like to rotate two or three bottles to keep from tiring of one flavour. A sensible pairing is a sharper citrus alongside something sweeter and fruitier, so one bottle can balance the other. If you switch flavours in the same tank, rinse it or at least run the tank low first, as old liquid left in the cotton will muddy the taste of the next one. Some people keep a separate tank for each flavour family, which is the cleanest option if you can spare the hardware.

For upgrades, the best return on money is usually a better coil rather than a pricier bottle. A fresh coil of the right size makes a visible difference to flavour. If you start using a particular strength regularly, pre-labelling a few mixed bottles at once saves time, as long as each one is clearly marked and stored away from light.

Delivery, returns and buying with confidence

You need to be 18 or over to buy this bottle. The checkout is age-verified, and the site asks you to confirm your age before you enter. The same age check applies to nicotine-free liquid like this one.

Delivery is tracked and simple. Free standard delivery applies to orders over £20 and arrives in two to three working days. Under £20, standard delivery is £2.99. If you need it faster, next-day delivery costs £4.99 and applies to orders placed before 4pm, Monday to Friday. Orders placed before 4pm are also dispatched the same day. Everything is sent in discreet plain packaging, so the outside of the parcel does not advertise what is inside.

Returns work differently for liquids than for most goods. For hygiene and safety reasons, opened e-liquids, disposables and pods cannot be returned. If something arrives faulty, you can return it within thirty days for a replacement or a refund, so keep the packaging until you have checked the bottle over. If anything looks wrong on arrival, such as a cracked bottle, a loose seal or a flavour that is not what you ordered, contact the shop straight away with your order number.

The full wording on dispatch times, charges and returns is on the delivery and returns page, and it is worth a quick read if you are ordering for a particular date. All stock is sold as genuine product. If you are unsure about anything on this page, such as whether a 100ml shortfill suits your device, ask before you buy rather than after, since an opened bottle cannot be sent back.

Pros & cons

Pros

  • Best value per ml in the category
  • Choose your own device and coil
  • Available in a wide strength ladder

Cons

  • Refilling can leak if you overfill
  • Coil priming has a small learning curve
  • You handle the bottle — less discreet than pods

Customer Buying Tips

  • Match the strength to how much you smoked: 20+/day → 10-20 mg nic salt; 10/day → 10 mg; under 5/day → 3-6 mg freebase.
  • Match the ratio to your device: pod kits take 50/50, sub-ohm tanks take 70/30 shortfill.
  • Don't overfill: leaving the airhole clear prevents gurgling and leaking.
  • Shake before use so the nicotine and flavour integrate evenly.

Frequently asked questions

Does Caliypso Black Ocean Lemonade contain nicotine?

As supplied, no. It is a shortfill sold at 0mg, which means it contains no nicotine unless you add it yourself. The bottle is made with spare room so adults who want a strength can add one or two 10ml nicotine shots, which are sold separately. If you do not use nicotine, leave the bottle exactly as it arrives. Check the label on your bottle for the maximum number of shots it was designed to take before adding anything.

What does 100ml shortfill mean and why is the bottle bigger?

A shortfill is an e-liquid sold without nicotine in a bottle larger than the liquid it contains. The 100ml refers to the amount of liquid. The extra space lets you add nicotine shots afterwards without overfilling. UK rules limit bottles of nicotine-containing e-liquid to 10ml, so large volumes are sold at 0mg and the buyer adds nicotine themselves if they want it. The label on your bottle gives the exact details.

How many nicotine shots can I add and what strength will I get?

That depends on the room in the bottle, so read the label first. If it takes two 10ml shots at 18mg, you end up with 120ml at 3mg. One 18mg shot gives roughly 1.6mg in 110ml. With 20mg shots the figures are about 1.8mg for one shot and 3.3mg for two. Never add more shots than the bottle has room for, as it will overfill.

What does Black Ocean Lemonade taste like?

It is a lemonade flavour. Our catalogue tags it as lemonade and lemon, with no ice or menthol tag, so expect a sweet and tangy lemon profile rather than a cooling one. The maker has not published detailed tasting notes, so we do not claim any further ingredients. If you want a cold finish, the Iceberg Ocean Lemonade bottle in the same range carries an ice tag.

Will this work in my vape kit?

It works in refillable devices that have a fill port, such as most sub-ohm tanks and refillable pod kits. It will not work in closed-pod kits that use prefilled cartridges, and it is not designed for disposables. Check that the bottle nozzle fits your fill port, and use a funnel or a blunt-tip syringe if it does not. Always follow your device manufacturer's guidance on coils and power.

How long will a 100ml bottle last?

It varies a lot between people. At about 1ml a day it would last over three months, and at about 3ml a day it would last a little over a month. Tank users with high airflow go through liquid faster than people on small pod devices. Adding nicotine shots increases the total volume, so a mixed 120ml bottle goes further than 100ml. Treat these as rough examples rather than guarantees.

Do I need to let the e-liquid steep?

If you leave the bottle at 0mg, you can usually use it straight away. If you add nicotine shots, shake the bottle well for about thirty seconds and leave it to rest for a few hours, or overnight, so the nicotine blends evenly. Fruit and citrus flavours do not normally need long steeping times. Give it a final shake before you fill your tank.

How should I store an opened bottle?

Keep it upright with the cap closed tightly, somewhere cool, dark and dry, away from direct sunlight and heat. Do not leave it in a warm car or on a windowsill. Store it, and any nicotine shots, out of reach of children and pets. For the best flavour, plan on using an opened bottle within a few months, as lemon notes tend to fade first.

How much is delivery and can I return an opened bottle?

Standard delivery is free over £20 and arrives in two to three working days. Under £20 it costs £2.99, and next-day delivery is £4.99 for orders placed before 4pm, Monday to Friday. Opened e-liquids cannot be returned for hygiene and safety reasons. Faulty items can be returned within thirty days for a replacement or refund, so contact the shop with your order number.

Do I have to be 18 to buy this?

Yes. All products on the site are for adults aged 18 or over, and the checkout is age-verified. That applies to nicotine-free liquid as well, because it is sold within the vaping range. Anyone who does not already use nicotine should not start, and nicotine shots must be kept away from children and pets at all times.
