Oreco Comet Pro Refill Pods 0.4 Ohm at a glance

The Oreco Comet Pro Refill Pods 0.4 Ohm are replacement pods for the Oreco Comet Pro pod system. Each pod combines a 0.4 ohm mesh-style coil with a refillable e-liquid chamber and seats onto the device, so you can top it up with your own e-liquid instead of throwing a whole unit away when the flavour runs out. If you have used a rechargeable pod kit before, the format will feel familiar: fill the pod, seat it on the battery section, wait a few minutes for the coil to saturate, then inhale.

The most important detail in the name is the resistance. A 0.4 ohm coil sits at the low end of the range you find in pod kits. Lower resistance draws more current from the battery, heats the coil faster and produces more vapour than the 0.8 ohm or 1.0 ohm coils found in tighter, mouth-to-lung pods. It is a choice aimed at people who want a looser draw and a warmer, fuller hit rather than a light, cigarette-style pull.

Here is what to expect from the pod in summary.

  • Coil resistance: 0.4 ohm, mesh-style heating element built for a looser, airier draw
  • E-liquid capacity: 2ml, which is the maximum tank size allowed for nicotine vaping products sold in the UK
  • Fill type: refillable, so you choose the flavour and the nicotine strength yourself
  • Compatibility: made for the Oreco Comet Pro device; do not assume it fits other Oreco or third-party batteries
  • Typical user: an adult smoker or existing vaper who prefers a warm, higher-vapour pod experience

This guide covers how the pod works, how to get consistent flavour from it, which nicotine strength makes sense, how to fix the common problems, and how it stacks up against other pod systems. We have tried to be straight about its limits as well as its strengths, because a 0.4 ohm pod is a good fit for some vapers and a poor fit for others. Vaping products are intended only for adults aged 18 and over, and nicotine is addictive; if you do not currently smoke or vape, you should not start.

How the 0.4 ohm mesh coil works

Every vape coil is a resistive heating element. When the battery sends current through it, the element heats up and vaporises the e-liquid held in the cotton wick around it. Resistance, measured in ohms, controls how much current flows at a given voltage. As a rough rule of thumb, power equals voltage squared divided by resistance, so at the same voltage a 0.4 ohm coil draws roughly double the power of a 0.8 ohm coil. Most pod devices regulate their output to stay well below the theoretical maximum, but the principle holds: lower ohm means more heat, more vapour and a faster rate of e-liquid use.

Mesh coils replace the traditional round wire with a thin sheet of metal pierced by many tiny holes, folded or rolled against the cotton. That design has several practical effects.

  • Larger contact area: more of the cotton touches the heating surface, so the liquid is vaporised more evenly and flavour tends to come through with less muddiness.
  • Quicker ramp-up: the thin sheet heats almost immediately, so the first second of each puff is not weak.
  • Fewer hot spots: an even surface lowers the chance of a single point scorching the wick, which helps coil life when you keep the pod properly filled.
  • Better consistency across the pod: because the heating surface is wide, the hit at the start of a fill and the hit near the end feel closer to each other.

The trade-off is e-liquid consumption. A low-resistance mesh coil vaporises more liquid per puff than a high-resistance coil, which is why a 2ml pod will not last as long at 0.4 ohm as it would at 1.0 ohm. The coil also wicks best with thinner e-liquid. A 50/50 or 60/40 VG/PG blend feeds the cotton quickly enough to keep up, while very thick, high-VG liquids can wick slowly and cause dry hits or a burnt taste, particularly in the first few puffs after refilling.

Coil life depends on how you use it. Sweet, dessert-style liquids leave more residue on the mesh and tend to shorten its life, while lighter fruit and menthol blends are usually kinder. As a general planning figure, a replacement pod typically gives one to three weeks of regular use before the flavour dulls. If it tastes flat even after a fresh fill, the coil is spent and it is time to swap pods.

Performance and vapour delivery

The performance of a refillable pod is different from that of a prefilled or disposable product, because you are in control of the liquid. That makes a manufacturer puff count less meaningful, but it is still possible to reason about what the Comet Pro pod will do in real use.

With 2ml of liquid and a low-resistance coil, a sensible planning range is a few hundred puffs per fill. The exact number depends on three things: how long you draw for, what power setting or output the device applies, and how thick the liquid is. A short, light draw uses far less liquid than a long, deep one. A moderate vaper who takes fairly short puffs will often get a full day of use from one fill, while a heavy user who chain-vapes may empty the pod in a few hours. Think of it as comparable to a fresh pack of cigarettes for a light smoker and a few hours of use for a heavy one, rather than as a precise number.

The draw itself is the main reason to choose 0.4 ohm. It is airy, closer to a restricted direct-lung inhale than to a tight mouth-to-lung pull. You get a bigger cloud of vapour per puff and a warmer temperature than you would from a 1.0 ohm pod. Throat hit is present but is largely governed by your nicotine strength and the liquid itself, not the coil. A properly saturated mesh coil also keeps the output steady for most of the fill, so there is no obvious drop-off until the pod is nearly empty.

A few practical notes help you get consistent results.

  • Prime before use: a pod used immediately after filling can taste dry for the first few puffs. Waiting five to ten minutes lets the cotton soak through.
  • Keep the level above the wick: as the liquid drops towards the bottom of the chamber, wicking becomes less reliable and the risk of a burnt hit rises. Refill before it is completely empty.
  • Take steady puffs: three to four seconds at a time suits a 0.4 ohm coil. Very long draws can outrun the wick.
  • Watch the battery level: a low-resistance coil asks more of the battery, so output can soften when the charge is nearly gone.

In short, these pods deliver a fuller, warmer vape with generous vapour, at the cost of faster liquid use than a tight-draw pod.

Flavour profile and e-liquid pairing

A refill pod has no flavour of its own. Everything you taste comes from the e-liquid you choose, so the question is how well the pod expresses that liquid. This is where a mesh coil does its best work. The wide, even heating surface vaporises the liquid at a consistent temperature, which preserves the separation between top notes, such as fresh fruit or menthol, and base notes, such as cream, vanilla or tobacco. Round-wire coils at similar power can blur those layers together, particularly in complex dessert profiles.

At 0.4 ohm the vapour is warmer than from a higher-resistance pod. For most people that gives a rounder, fuller flavour on sweet and dessert liquids and a gentler, less icy feel on menthol blends. If you like a crisp, cold mint, you may find you want a liquid with a stronger cooling agent to compensate.

Some pairing guidance by flavour family:

  • Fruit and candy: work well and are the most forgiving. Blends with a balanced PG content show off the mesh's flavour clarity.
  • Menthol and mint: a stronger cooling profile tends to stay noticeable through the warmer vapour.
  • Dessert and bakery: taste good but leave more residue on the coil. Expect to replace the pod a little sooner and to rinse the chamber between fills.
  • Tobacco: richer blends come through well with the warmer draw, and a lower nicotine strength often keeps them smooth.

Two details matter for flavour quality. First, nicotine salt versus freebase nicotine. Salt-based liquids are smoother at higher strengths and are the common choice for pod systems; freebase liquids have a sharper throat hit and are usually sold in lower strengths. Either can work in this pod, but a 0.4 ohm coil at higher power with a strong freebase liquid can feel harsh. Second, VG/PG ratio. A 50/50 or 60/40 blend wicks faster and tastes a little brighter, while a very high VG liquid makes a denser, smoother vapour but needs more patience to saturate.

If you want to change flavour, do not just refill with something different. Residue from the previous liquid stays in the cotton and produces ghosting, where two flavours overlap. Either use a fresh pod for each flavour or empty the pod, rinse the chamber with lukewarm water, let it dry fully, and run a few puffs of the new liquid through before judging the result.

Design and build quality

The Comet Pro pod is a compact, self-contained cartridge. It has four functional parts: the mouthpiece, the 2ml liquid chamber, the fill port and the coil base. The coil base carries the heating element and the electrical contacts that connect to the device, and the cotton wick sits inside it. The pod seats into the front or top of the Comet Pro battery section, so it should sit flush when correctly installed.

When your pods arrive, check these points before use:

  • Seating: the pod should push in fully and stay in place without wobbling. A pod that sits proud of the device may not be making full contact.
  • Fill port seal: the plug that closes the filling hole needs to be fully pushed in after you fill. A partly seated plug is the most common cause of leaks in refillable pods.
  • Contacts: the metal contacts should look clean and bright. If they are dirty, wipe them with a dry cloth or cotton bud before inserting the pod.
  • Chamber window: being able to see the liquid level makes it easy to refill before the coil runs dry. Always check the level before long sessions.

The pod body is moulded plastic, which is standard for this type of product, so treat it gently. Over-tightening a plug, dropping the pod, or leaving it in a very hot place such as a car on a summer day can warp the seals and cause leaks. The airflow channel is built into the pod and draws air past the coil, so keep the inlet clear of lint and pocket fluff.

In terms of day-to-day handling, the pod keeps the overall device compact and pocketable. The mouthpiece shape is designed to be comfortable for lips and to channel vapour straight to the mouth. Because a 0.4 ohm coil produces more condensation, it is worth wiping the mouthpiece occasionally; it is normal to see a bit of moisture there after heavy use.

Nothing about the build is unusual for a pod in this category, and it is worth being clear about expectations. These are consumable parts. They are built to be used and replaced on a regular schedule, not to last for months, so treat the coil as a part with a limited life and keep a spare pod on hand.

Battery and charging

The refill pod does not contain a battery. Power comes from the Oreco Comet Pro device it is installed in, so battery life depends on that unit rather than on the pod. We do not list a battery capacity here because it belongs to the device specification; check the Comet Pro product page for the mAh figure if you need the exact number. What we can say is how a 0.4 ohm coil affects battery behaviour.

A low-resistance coil draws more current than a high-resistance one, so it drains the battery faster. For a moderate vaper, expect to charge the device once a day. A heavier user may want to top up during the day. If you previously used a 1.0 ohm pod and notice the battery going down more quickly after switching, that is normal and not a fault.

Good charging habits make the battery last longer:

  • Use a standard USB charger: a 5V phone-style charger or a computer USB port is appropriate for most pod devices. Check the device instructions for the charging port type and the recommended current.
  • Use a good cable: a frayed or low-quality cable can charge slowly or intermittently.
  • Do not charge unattended overnight: lithium-ion batteries are safe when handled correctly, but it is sensible practice to charge while you are awake and nearby.
  • Avoid extreme temperatures: do not charge or store the device in the sun, in a hot car or in a freezing garage.
  • Do not use a damaged device: if the casing is cracked, swollen or hot to the touch during charging, stop using it and recycle it safely.

Because the battery is in the device, replacing the pod does not reset or alter battery life. You can run through many pods on a single Comet Pro battery. When a battery eventually degrades and holds less charge, replace the device rather than trying to repair it.

At the end of its life, a vape battery should never go into household waste or a normal bin. In the UK, waste electrical items and batteries have to be recycled. Most vape shops that sell these products are required to take back used vapes and batteries, and many supermarkets and council recycling centres have drop-off points for small electricals and batteries. Please use them; a lithium battery in a bin lorry or landfill is a real fire risk.

Nicotine strength guidance

Because these are refillable pods, the nicotine strength is set by the e-liquid you put in, not by the pod. That gives you flexibility but also means you need to choose sensibly. In the UK, nicotine e-liquid is capped at 20mg/ml, which is 2 per cent, and that same cap applied to the disposable vapes that were previously sold before the ban on single-use products. You will see 10mg/ml and 20mg/ml most often in nicotine salt liquids, and 3mg/ml, 6mg/ml or 12mg/ml in freebase nicotine liquids. A 0mg option is also widely available.

The choice of strength is a balance between throat hit, smoothness and how much nicotine you actually need. The 0.4 ohm coil complicates it, because this pod delivers a bigger cloud per puff. More vapour per puff means more nicotine per puff, so the same strength feels stronger at 0.4 ohm than at 1.0 ohm.

  • Heavier smokers or those switching from 15 to 20 cigarettes a day: nicotine salt at 10mg/ml to 20mg/ml is the usual starting point. Many people find 20mg/ml harsh in a low-resistance pod and settle on 10mg/ml to 12mg/ml.
  • Moderate smokers: 10mg/ml salt, or 6mg/ml freebase, tends to be comfortable.
  • Light or social smokers: 3mg/ml to 6mg/ml freebase, or a low-strength salt, is often enough.
  • Experienced vapers reducing their intake: step down gradually, for example from 10mg/ml to 6mg/ml to 3mg/ml, giving yourself a couple of weeks at each stage.

Signs that your strength is too high include dizziness, nausea, a very harsh throat hit, a racing heart or a sense of needing to put the device down. Signs that it is too low include constant cravings and chain-vaping because you never feel satisfied. If either applies, adjust by a single step rather than a big jump.

This is general guidance, not medical advice. Nicotine is addictive, and vaping is intended as an alternative for adult smokers, not for people who have never smoked. If you are pregnant, have a heart condition or take regular medication, speak to a doctor or pharmacist before using nicotine products. NHS stop smoking services can also give free support if your goal is to quit completely.

Who these pods suit, and who should look elsewhere

The 0.4 ohm pod is a clear choice for some vapers and a poor fit for others. Being honest about it saves you money and frustration.

These pods are likely to suit you if:

  • You prefer a loose, airy draw rather than a tight, cigarette-style pull.
  • You like a warm vapour with generous volume and good flavour definition.
  • You already use or plan to buy the Oreco Comet Pro device and want replacement pods.
  • You are happy to refill a pod yourself and manage your own e-liquid.
  • You want a lower nicotine strength with a satisfying, full hit rather than a high-strength liquid at a restrained draw.
  • You are moving from a larger kit or tank and find tight pods unsatisfying.

You may want to look at other options if:

  • You want the closest feel to a cigarette: a higher-resistance pod, such as 0.8 ohm to 1.2 ohm, gives a tighter draw, a more restricted airflow and a throat hit that feels closer to smoking. For many first-time switchers, that format works better than 0.4 ohm.
  • You dislike refilling: if you want a closed, prefilled pod that you simply click in and replace, a refillable pod is more hands-on than you want.
  • You want long runtime from a single pod: a low-resistance coil uses liquid faster. Someone who only wants to fill the pod once a day and forget about it may prefer a higher resistance.
  • You use very thick, high-VG liquids: the wicking in a 0.4 ohm pod can struggle with liquids at the thicker end.
  • You do not smoke or vape: nicotine products carry a real addiction risk, and they are not appropriate for anyone who has never used nicotine. Nobody under 18 can legally buy these products in the UK.

If you are not sure which side of the line you fall on, the question to ask is how you inhale. If you pull the vapour into your mouth first and then inhale it into the lungs, a higher-resistance pod usually feels more natural. If you inhale straight into the lungs in one movement, a 0.4 ohm pod is more likely to satisfy you.

How to use the Comet Pro refill pods

Getting the first fill right makes a noticeable difference to taste and to how long the coil lasts. Follow this sequence when you install a fresh pod.

  • Step 1, check the pod: remove any packaging or protective film and look for cracks, loose plugs or damage. Do not use a visibly damaged pod.
  • Step 2, open the fill port: pull the silicone plug out of the filling hole with a clean fingernail. Keep the pod upright while you do this so any residue stays inside the chamber.
  • Step 3, fill with e-liquid: place the nozzle of your bottle against the fill hole and squeeze slowly. Fill to just below the top of the chamber, not completely full. Leaving a small air gap lowers the risk of leaking. Avoid letting liquid run into the central airflow tube.
  • Step 4, close the port: push the plug fully back in. It should sit flush with the pod body. A raised or crooked plug is the most common cause of leaks.
  • Step 5, wipe and prime: wipe any spilt liquid from the outside. Leave the filled pod upright for five to ten minutes so the cotton wick saturates. New pods benefit from a slightly longer wait.
  • Step 6, seat the pod: push the pod into the Comet Pro until it is fully seated. Check the contacts are clean and dry.
  • Step 7, take the first puffs gently: use a few short, light draws without firing for long, and then settle into normal use. This avoids dry hits while the coil finishes wetting out.

During use, watch the liquid level. Refill when it falls to about a quarter of the chamber, not when it is empty. A completely dry coil burns very quickly, and a burnt coil cannot be rescued. When you refill, you can usually top up the same liquid. If you change flavour, replace the pod or rinse the chamber and let it dry first.

Store the device and spare pods upright, away from heat and direct sunlight, and out of reach of children and pets. E-liquid containing nicotine is hazardous if swallowed or spilt on the skin. If this happens, wash the area with water, and contact a doctor or the NHS if you feel unwell.

Troubleshooting common problems

Most problems with refillable pods come down to a small number of causes. Here is how to diagnose the typical ones.

  • Leaking from the pod or the device: the usual causes are an overfilled chamber, a fill plug that is not fully seated, or a pod sitting at an angle in your pocket. Fill to a little below the maximum, press the plug in firmly, and carry the device upright where you can. Also check for hairline cracks in the pod. If the leak continues, replace the pod.
  • Burnt or acrid taste: this almost always means the coil was fired while dry or the liquid is too thick for the wick. Do not keep puffing; a burnt coil will not recover. Replace the pod, wait for it to saturate before use and refill before the level gets low.
  • Weak flavour or flat vapour: the coil may be worn out, particularly if you have been using sweet liquids. Try a fresh pod. If the new pod tastes strong, the old coil was finished. It could also mean the liquid has sat for a long time or has been exposed to heat.
  • Gurgling or spitting: condensation or excess liquid has gathered near the coil. Remove the pod, blow gently through the mouthpiece and wipe the base. Over-filling is a common cause.
  • No vapour or the device does not fire: check the battery is charged and the pod is fully seated. Clean the contacts with a dry cloth or cotton bud. If the device still does not respond with a new pod, the problem is more likely to be in the device than in the pod.
  • Dry hits right after refilling: the cotton has not yet soaked up the liquid. Wait longer before firing, and avoid very thick liquids.
  • Hot vapour: a low-resistance coil produces warmer vapour than a high-resistance one, and that is normal. If it is uncomfortable, take shorter puffs, let the device rest between draws, or switch to a thinner, cooler-tasting liquid. Very hot vapour with a burnt taste suggests a dry coil.
  • Strong throat hit that is too harsh: reduce the nicotine strength or move from freebase to a salt at a lower strength.

If you have worked through these checks and a brand-new, correctly filled pod still behaves strangely, contact the shop with your order number and a short description or photo. A pod that arrives damaged or faulty is something we want to put right.

Value for money, care and recycling

The cost of a refillable pod system has two parts: the pod itself and the e-liquid. The pod is a consumable that you replace every one to three weeks, depending on how heavily you vape and which liquids you use, and the liquid is the larger ongoing spend. Because you choose the liquid, you control the cost. A 10ml bottle in a lower price bracket lasts several refills of a 2ml pod, while premium-brand liquids cost more per millilitre. A low-resistance coil uses liquid faster than a high-resistance one, so it is fair to expect a somewhat higher running cost per day than from a 1.0 ohm pod.

Compared with other approaches, here is how the economics look.

  • Against single-use vapes: the sale of single-use vapes has been banned in the UK since 1 June 2025, so they are no longer a legitimate option. Refillable and reusable systems like this one are the alternative, and replacing a pod is much cheaper per puff and creates far less waste than discarding a whole device.
  • Against prefilled pod systems: prefilled pods are more convenient, but you pay a premium for the liquid inside. A refill pod is cheaper over time if you are comfortable refilling.
  • Against smoking: a regular smoker spending money on cigarettes every day will usually find a vape setup considerably cheaper to run, though results vary with usage.

You can stretch the life of each pod with a few habits. Avoid chain-vaping, which overheats the coil. Prime every fill. Prefer lighter liquids when you can, because very sweet dessert blends clog coils sooner. Keep the pod upright and out of the heat. Buy a couple of spare pods, because the coil is the part most likely to run out at an awkward moment.

When a pod is finished, recycle it. Used pods are small electrical waste because they contain a heating element, and the device contains a lithium battery. Do not put them in household bins. Return them to a shop that takes back vapes, or to a council household waste recycling centre or other designated drop-off point. Drain any remaining liquid into an absorbent cloth first, and bin that safely. Using these drop-off points keeps metals and batteries in circulation and reduces fire risk in waste facilities.

How the Comet Pro pod compares with the alternatives

A fair comparison needs to separate what the pod does well from what it simply does differently. Here is how a 0.4 ohm refill pod compares with other common approaches in the UK market.

  • Higher-resistance pods in the 0.8 ohm to 1.2 ohm range: these deliver a tighter draw, closer to a cigarette, with lower liquid use and longer runtime per fill. They suit new switchers and anyone who inhales mouth-to-lung. The Comet Pro 0.4 ohm pod gives more vapour and a warmer feel but uses liquid faster and puts more load on the battery.
  • Other 0.4 ohm pod systems, such as those from Vaporesso, Voopoo or Smok: established brands offer similar low-resistance mesh pods with their own chipsets, airflow adjustments and wider accessory ranges. Those brands often have a bigger ecosystem, with more pod variants and long-standing user reviews. The advantage of the Oreco route is simplicity and, depending on the retailer, competitive pricing. If you value a large range of pod resistances for one device, check what each system offers before you commit.
  • Open tank or sub-ohm kits: these are larger devices with replaceable coils, more power and greater adjustability. They produce more vapour than any 2ml pod, but they are bulkier and more demanding to maintain. A 0.4 ohm pod is a middle path for people who want a stronger hit without moving to a full kit.
  • Prefilled closed pods: these are easy to use and need no handling of liquid, though at a higher ongoing cost and with a narrower choice of flavours and strengths.

Where the Oreco Comet Pro refill pod holds up well: it gives a satisfying draw at a sensible price, it works with the liquid and strength you prefer, and the mesh coil handles a wide range of flavours. Where it falls short: the 2ml limit is a regulatory ceiling shared by every UK pod, so you will refill often, and you are tied to the Comet Pro device because the pod is not a universal fit.

Our summary is simple. If you want a warm, full pod vape and you are happy to refill, the 0.4 ohm Comet Pro pod is a reasonable choice. If you want a tight, discreet, low-effort cigarette alternative, go for a higher-ohm pod instead.

Frequently asked questions

Which nicotine strength should I use with the 0.4 ohm pod?

The pod is empty, so strength depends on the e-liquid you fill it with, and the UK cap is 20mg/ml. Because a 0.4 ohm coil produces more vapour per puff, many people prefer 10mg/ml to 12mg/ml nicotine salt, or 3mg/ml to 6mg/ml freebase. Heavier smokers may start higher, but adjust by one step at a time.

How do I charge it, and does the pod have its own battery?

The pod has no battery. Charging is done on the Oreco Comet Pro device through its USB charging port using a standard 5V charger and a good-quality cable. A 0.4 ohm coil draws more power, so daily charging is typical for regular use, and you should avoid leaving it charging unattended overnight.

Can I change flavour in the same pod?

You can, but the cotton holds some of the previous liquid, which causes ghosting between flavours. For a clean switch, use a fresh pod, or empty the pod, rinse the chamber with lukewarm water, let it dry completely and prime it with the new liquid before use.

How long does one pod and one fill last?

A 2ml fill usually lasts a few hours for a heavy user and around a day for a moderate one, depending on puff length and liquid thickness. The coil itself normally lasts one to three weeks of regular use. Sweet dessert liquids shorten coil life, while lighter fruit and menthol blends tend to be kinder.

Is it good value compared with other pods?

Replacement pods cost far less per puff than prefilled systems, and you control the e-liquid spend. The 0.4 ohm coil uses liquid slightly faster than a high-resistance pod, so running costs are a little higher than a tighter-draw option. Buying multi-packs or spare pods can bring the unit price down.

Who should and should not buy these pods?

They suit adult smokers and vapers who like a loose, warm, high-vapour draw and are comfortable refilling their own pod. They are not suitable for under 18s, non-smokers or anyone who wants a tight cigarette-style pull, who will usually prefer a higher-resistance pod.

Will these pods fit any Oreco device?

These pods are made for the Oreco Comet Pro. Pod shapes and electrical contacts differ between devices and brands, so do not assume they fit other Oreco models or third-party batteries. If you are unsure, check your device model before ordering.

Do you deliver across the UK, and is age verification needed?

We ship to UK addresses, and the delivery options and estimated times are shown at checkout. Because these are age-restricted products, you must be 18 or over, and we may ask for proof of age at checkout or on delivery.

What happens if my pod arrives faulty or damaged?

Contact us as soon as you can with your order number and a photo of the problem, and we will review it under our returns policy. Pods are consumable parts, so normal wear after use is not a fault, but a pod that arrives cracked, leaking or not working is something we will put right.

Best one I've tried this year

Not too strong, not too mild — just right. Good for all day use without being overpowering.

My new daily

Quality feels solid. Doesn't feel cheap like some other brands I've tried. Happy with the buy.
