Vaporesso Luxe XR Max Pod Vape Kit overview

The Vaporesso Luxe XR Max Pod Vape Kit is a refillable pod mod for UK adult vapers who want more power and more battery than a slim pod stick offers, without stepping up to a full box mod and sub-ohm tank. It sits at the top of the Luxe XR range, pairing Vaporesso's AXON chipset with an internal battery of roughly 2800mAh and the GTX mesh coil platform. In practical terms that means a device you can run gently for a tighter, flavour-first draw at lower wattage, or push toward a looser, warmer, more vapour-heavy draw when you want it.

Because it is a kit rather than a disposable, you buy the hardware once and then spend only on e-liquid and replacement coils or pods. That matters in the UK now that single-use vapes can no longer be sold, a rule that came into force on 1 June 2025. Anyone who used to rely on a 600-puff disposable has had to move to a refillable or pod-based system, and the Luxe XR Max sits at the more powerful, more adjustable end of that category. It is also less wasteful: the body lasts for years, and only the pod or coil is replaced when it wears out.

This guide is written to help you decide whether the Luxe XR Max suits the way you vape. It covers:

  • Specifications and what is in the box
  • Performance and how many puffs a pod realistically gives
  • Flavour and how to choose e-liquid for a mesh coil
  • Design, build quality, battery life and charging
  • The GTX coil system and how long coils last
  • Nicotine strength guidance within the UK 20mg/ml limit
  • Who the kit suits, who should skip it, how to use it and how to fix common faults
  • Value for money and fair comparisons with rival kits

A short note before we start. Nicotine is addictive, and vaping products are for adults aged 18 or over. If you do not currently smoke or vape, this is not a product for you. If you are a smoker looking to switch, a refillable kit is a widely used route, and the NHS offers free stop-smoking support that can be used alongside it.

Specifications and what is in the box

Specifications are worth checking against the manufacturer's sheet before you buy, because Vaporesso revises pods, coils and firmware between production runs. The figures below reflect the Luxe XR Max as it is generally specified for the UK market.

  • Output range: adjustable up to roughly 80W, with lower settings suited to tighter, restricted draws.
  • Battery: built-in lithium-ion cell of roughly 2800mAh, charged through a USB-C port.
  • Chipset: Vaporesso's AXON platform, which handles power regulation, firing modes and protections such as short-circuit, low-resistance and over-time cut-offs.
  • Pod capacity: 2ml in the UK. That is the legal maximum for a refillable pod or tank holding nicotine liquid sold here. Export versions of the Luxe XR Max list larger pods, which is not what arrives in a UK box.
  • Coil system: GTX mesh coils in the sub-ohm range. The coil fitted to the pod in your kit is stated on the box and product page.
  • Airflow: adjustable, so you can open the draw up for a looser pull or close it down for a tighter one.
  • Display: a compact screen showing wattage, battery level and coil status.
  • Charging: USB-C input; charging time depends on the charger you use.

In the box you can normally expect the device itself, one pod with a GTX coil already fitted, a USB-C charging cable, the user manual and a warning card. Some retail packs include a spare coil or pod, so check the listing for the exact contents before ordering. Nicotine e-liquid is never included and is sold separately; in the UK it is limited to 10ml bottles and a maximum strength of 20mg/ml.

This product family contains eight variants. On a kit, variants are different colours or finishes rather than different flavours, and the internals are identical across them. Choose on looks, and treat any price differences between finishes as cosmetic rather than performance related.

Performance and puff delivery

A refillable kit does not carry a rated puff count the way a disposable does, because the number of puffs you get depends on how you set the device and how you vape. What can be said is how the Luxe XR Max behaves across its power range.

  • Lower range, roughly 15 to 30W: a tighter draw, cooler vapour and a flavour-first character. Liquid lasts longest here, and the setting suits nicotine salt e-liquids well.
  • Middle range, roughly 30 to 50W: where most users settle. Vapour is warmer and fuller, flavour stays defined, and the pod still lasts a reasonable time.
  • Upper range, 50W to the 80W ceiling: large, warm vapour and a looser, direct-lung feel. It uses liquid faster, heats the coil harder and shortens coil life, so treat it as an occasional setting rather than a default.

As a rough guide, a 2ml pod at moderate settings tends to give somewhere in the region of 150 to 300 puffs, depending on puff length, wattage and the thickness of the liquid. Run at the lower end of the range and that figure stretches further. This is an estimate, not a rating. For comparison, a UK-legal 2ml disposable was typically quoted at 600 puffs, but those ran at very low power with high-resistance coils. The Luxe XR Max delivers more vapour per puff, so it uses its 2ml faster. That is the honest trade-off of a more powerful device under a 2ml cap.

Firing response is quick. The AXON chip brings the coil to the set power almost immediately, and mesh coils heat across a wider surface than a single round wire, so the first second of a puff does not feel thin or delayed. Flavour tends to stay steady across the life of a coil before tapering off as the coil ages and gunks up.

Performance also depends on the liquid. Thick, high-VG e-liquids need a little more power and wick more slowly, while thinner 50/50 blends and nicotine salts wick quickly and behave well at low wattage. If you get a dry or burnt hit, lower the wattage and give the coil a moment between puffs before blaming the hardware.

Flavour profile and choosing e-liquid

The kit has no flavour of its own. What you taste is entirely down to the e-liquid you fill the pod with, and the device's job is to deliver that flavour cleanly. Mesh coils are known for rendering flavour with good definition, because the larger heating surface vaporises liquid evenly rather than scorching one spot. In practice that means fruit notes stay distinct from each other, menthol reads cool rather than harsh, and dessert profiles keep their sweetness without turning muddy at moderate wattage.

Here are eight e-liquid profiles that suit the Luxe XR Max, with a note on how each tends to behave:

  • Blue raspberry ice: sharp, sweet and cooling; a popular profile among former disposable users and forgiving at most wattages.
  • Strawberry ice: a softer, rounder fruit with a light cooling finish; works well at lower and middle power.
  • Watermelon and mint: juicy and refreshing; keep the wattage moderate so the mint does not become harsh.
  • Menthol or arctic mint: a clean, cold draw with no sweetness; mesh coils deliver it crisply, and it is gentle on coil life.
  • Tobacco and classic blends: useful for smokers who want something familiar; lower wattage keeps the profile smoky and dry rather than sweet.
  • Vanilla custard: thick, creamy dessert flavour; lower the power a little, since heavy sweeteners build up on the coil faster.
  • Cola and soft-drink profiles: fizzy, sweet and bright; fine at mid power, though sweeteners can shorten coil life.
  • Citrus and lemonade: sharp, zesty and light; clean on the coil and pleasant at middle wattage.

Two practical points. First, very sweet liquids caramelise on the coil and shorten its life, so if you favour dessert or sweet-drink profiles, expect to change coils a little more often. Second, switching flavour is easy but needs care: empty the pod, rinse it with lukewarm water, let it dry fully, then refill. Changing between a strong menthol and a delicate fruit in the same pod without rinsing will leave ghost flavours behind.

If you want to try several profiles without committing to a full 10ml bottle of each, buy a couple of different bottles and keep a spare pod or coil so you can alternate. The eight variants of this kit are cosmetic only, so the flavour choice is entirely yours.

Design and build quality

The Luxe XR Max is a mid-sized pod mod. It is heavier and wider than a slim pod stick, because it carries a larger battery and a more capable chipset, but it still fits in a pocket or small bag and holds comfortably in one hand. Luxe-series devices have used a mix of alloy framing and textured or leather-style panels, with the exact finish depending on which of the eight variants you choose. Textured panels add grip and hide fingerprints; smoother finishes look cleaner but pick up marks and can feel slippery in cold or damp hands.

Controls are simple. A single fire button sits on the front, with adjustment buttons for wattage and a small screen that shows power, battery level and coil information at a glance. The learning curve is short: if you have used any Vaporesso device before, the click patterns and menus will feel familiar, and if you have not, the manual covers them in a page or two.

The pod seats firmly in the top of the device and should click or snap into place. A loose or wobbly fit is usually down to debris in the connection, not a fault. The fill port on the pod is covered by a silicone bung or cover, and the pod itself is translucent so you can see how much liquid remains, which is useful with a 2ml capacity that you will be topping up regularly.

Build quality is in line with what Vaporesso generally delivers at this price. The body feels solid, the buttons are firm without being stiff, and the USB-C port is positioned so the cable does not strain the device while charging. Points to look after:

  • Do not drop the device onto hard floors; the internal battery and the screen are the parts most sensitive to shocks.
  • Wipe the connection between pod and body with a dry cloth now and then to keep contact clean.
  • Avoid leaving the kit in a hot car or in direct sun, since heat degrades lithium-ion cells and softens seals.
  • Keep it away from loose keys and coins in a pocket; a hard case or a pouch is sensible protection.

It is not rated as waterproof, so keep it out of the rain and away from liquid spills. A cheap silicone sleeve is worth buying if you carry the kit daily.

Battery life and charging

The internal cell of roughly 2800mAh is the main reason to choose the Luxe XR Max over a smaller pod device. A rough calculation helps set expectations. A 2800mAh cell at about 3.7V holds roughly 10Wh of energy. At 30W, that is around 20 minutes of total coil firing time, which works out to approximately 250 to 300 three-second puffs once real-world losses are allowed for. At 50W it is closer to 150 to 180 puffs, and at 70 to 80W it falls to roughly 100 to 130. These are estimates, not rated figures, but they match the experience most users report.

What this tells you in practice:

  • At lower and middle wattages, a single charge comfortably covers a day of ordinary use for most vapers.
  • At higher wattages, the battery and the 2ml pod run out at similar rates, so you will be refilling and recharging fairly often.
  • If you vape heavily, a second device or a habit of topping up from a USB power bank is a sensible backup.

Charging is by USB-C. A 2A charger will usually refill the cell in a little over an hour, while a basic phone charger will take longer. Use a reputable charger and cable, and avoid unbranded adaptors with no safety marking. Do not charge the device under a pillow, on a bed or sofa, or while you are asleep or out of the house, and unplug it when the screen shows it is full. Lithium-ion cells are safe when treated properly, but poor chargers and heat are the usual causes of problems.

If the casing swells, the device becomes unusually hot, or it smells of burning, stop using it and take it somewhere safe and open. Do not keep trying to charge a damaged unit.

Recycling: this device contains a built-in battery and is classed as electrical waste. It must never go in a household bin or recycling bag. In the UK, retailers that sell vaping products are required to take back unwanted electrical items, and your local council recycling centre also accepts them through designated WEEE and battery drop-off points. Used pods and coils can usually go in with general waste once emptied, though some collection schemes accept them separately, so check what is available locally.

GTX coil and mesh technology

The Luxe XR Max is built around Vaporesso's GTX coil family. These are mesh coils: instead of a single round wire wound into a spiral, the heating element is a flat sheet of fine mesh, usually rolled or folded so that a large surface area touches the cotton wick. This design has become common in modern kits for good reasons.

  • Even heating: the greater surface area vaporises liquid across the coil rather than in one hot spot, which supports clean flavour.
  • Faster ramp-up: the coil reaches working temperature quickly, so the first part of a puff is not weak.
  • Better wicking at power: the mesh holds liquid close to the heating surface, reducing the risk of dry hits when you run higher wattage.
  • Consistent output: vapour and flavour stay steadier across the life of the coil than with many older wire designs.

GTX coils are built for sub-ohm use, meaning resistance below one ohm. A lower-resistance coil draws more current, heats faster and produces more vapour, while a coil with a slightly higher resistance suits a gentler setup and stretches the battery. Each coil has a recommended wattage range printed on its side or in the manual, and you should stay within it. Running a coil below its range can leave it cool and flat tasting, while running above it burns the cotton and shortens its life.

Priming a new coil is essential. Before the first puff, drip a few drops of e-liquid directly onto the exposed cotton through the wicking holes, fill the pod, then let it sit for five to ten minutes so the cotton soaks through. Skipping this step is the most common cause of a burnt coil on day one. When you start vaping, use short, gentle puffs at a low wattage for the first few draws.

Coil life depends heavily on what you vape and how hard. Most users replace a coil every one to two weeks, though sweet, thick liquids and high wattages shorten that, and unsweetened menthol or tobacco liquids extend it. The signs of a worn coil are:

  • Flavour that turns muted, burnt or slightly metallic
  • Gurgling or spitting from the mouthpiece
  • A noticeable drop in vapour production

Replace the coil rather than trying to nurse it along; a worn coil tastes unpleasant and can strain the battery.

Nicotine strength guidance

In the UK, nicotine e-liquid is capped at 20mg/ml (2%) and sold in bottles of no more than 10ml. That limit applies to every refillable liquid, not only the nicotine salts you see most often. Choosing a strength is less about what number is available and more about how you plan to run the device, because the same liquid feels very different at 20W and at 60W.

A sensible way to think about it:

  • 20mg/ml nicotine salt: intended for tighter draws at low wattage, roughly 15 to 25W. It suits heavier smokers who want a cigarette-like hit and a throat sensation that is smooth rather than harsh. At higher power, 20mg salts become strong and harsh very quickly, and you will consume more nicotine than intended.
  • 10 to 12mg/ml nicotine salt: suits moderate smokers or people stepping down. It works across the lower and middle part of the Luxe XR Max's range and is the usual choice for someone who vapes at around 20 to 35W.
  • 5 to 6mg/ml (freebase or salt): a lighter strength for lighter smokers or those reducing nicotine; at middle wattage it gives a less intense throat feel.
  • 3mg/ml freebase, high-VG: suited to the upper end of the range, 40 to 70W, where a large amount of vapour is delivered per puff. High power with high nicotine is a poor combination.
  • 0mg/ml: available for people who have stopped nicotine entirely and want to keep the habit and flavour.

The general rule is that as wattage and vapour volume go up, nicotine strength should come down. Because the Luxe XR Max can run anywhere from gentle to powerful, it can be used with several of these strengths, but not all at once. Decide first how you plan to vape, and pick the strength to match.

Signs that your strength is too high: nausea, dizziness, a racing heart, a harsh throat hit that makes you cough, or finding yourself taking fewer puffs than you would like. Move down a step and reduce wattage. Signs it is too low: cravings returning quickly, constant puffing, and not feeling satisfied. Move up a step or lower the power so the same liquid hits harder.

If you are new to vaping and coming from cigarettes, start higher and step down over weeks rather than going straight to a low strength, since under-dosing is a common reason people drift back to smoking. If you are not a smoker, there is no reason to use nicotine at all.

Who the Luxe XR Max is for, and who should skip it

The Luxe XR Max suits a particular kind of vaper. Being clear about that saves money and frustration.

It is a good fit if you:

  • Are a smoker or ex-smoker who has outgrown a basic pod stick and wants something more adjustable.
  • Used disposables and want a refillable replacement that offers more control over flavour and vapour.
  • Like having a power range to tune: low for gentle days, higher when you want a fuller draw.
  • Want a larger battery than a slim pod kit offers, to get through a full day without a top-up.
  • Are happy to refill a 2ml pod and to change coils every week or two.

You may want to skip it if you:

  • Want the simplest possible experience. A basic closed-pod stick with no screen, no adjustment and no priming is easier for someone who dislikes fiddling.
  • Need a very slim, light device. The Luxe XR Max is pocketable but not tiny.
  • Want a large tank. UK law caps refillable pods at 2ml, so if you need more capacity per fill you would need a different style of device, and even then the legal cap applies.
  • Are a non-smoker. This is a nicotine product, and nothing in this kit is designed for people who have never smoked or vaped.
  • Are under 18. Sale and supply to anyone under that age is illegal.

If you are a beginner, the Luxe XR Max is usable, but you will need to read the manual and be willing to learn about coils, wattage and priming. A first-time vaper who simply wants something to switch from cigarettes might be happier starting with a less adjustable device and moving up later. Equally, an experienced vaper who currently uses box mods may find the 2ml pod limiting, though the power range and battery are in line with what a compact device can offer.

One further point is worth stating plainly. Vaping is not risk-free. It is considered substantially less harmful than smoking for adults who switch completely, but that is not the same as harmless, and the best outcome for health is to stop using nicotine altogether if you can.

How to fill, set up and use the kit

Setting up the Luxe XR Max takes a few minutes. Follow these steps in order.

  • Charge first. Plug the device in with the supplied USB-C cable and charge it fully before first use if the screen shows a low level.
  • Prime the coil. Take the pod out of the packaging, drip a few drops of e-liquid onto the cotton through the wicking holes, then fill the pod.
  • Fill the pod. Open the fill port, angle the bottle tip into the opening and add liquid slowly, stopping before the pod is completely full to leave a small air gap. Avoid filling through the central airflow tube.
  • Close the port. Press the silicone bung or cover down firmly and wipe any spilled liquid off the pod and base.
  • Wait. Let the pod stand upright for five to ten minutes so the cotton saturates.
  • Insert the pod. Push it into the top of the device until it clicks or seats firmly.
  • Switch on. Vaporesso devices commonly use five rapid presses of the fire button to power on and off; the manual confirms the exact sequence for your unit.
  • Set the power. Start at a modest wattage within the coil's recommended range, then adjust up or down in small steps until the flavour and warmth feel right.
  • Vape. Press and hold the fire button while drawing slowly, with a long, even breath. Take short, gentle puffs for the first few draws.

Daily use is straightforward. Refill the pod when the level drops to roughly a third, rather than waiting until it is empty, since running dry is what burns coils. Adjust the airflow if the draw feels too loose or too tight. Lock the buttons when the device is in your pocket to avoid accidental firing.

For storage, keep the device upright where possible, away from heat and out of reach of children and pets. E-liquid containing nicotine is poisonous if swallowed, and bottles should always be kept closed and out of sight. When travelling, remove the pod or empty it before flying, since pressure changes can push liquid out.

For cleaning, wipe the mouthpiece and the base of the pod with a dry cloth and clean the metal contacts occasionally with a cotton bud. Rinse the pod with lukewarm water between flavours, let it dry completely and avoid using alcohol or harsh cleaners.

Troubleshooting common problems

Most problems with pod mods come down to the coil, the liquid or a dirty connection. Work through these before assuming the device is faulty.

  • Burnt or harsh taste: the coil is probably dry or worn. Check the liquid level, let a fresh coil soak for longer, and lower the wattage. If a coil is a week or two old and tastes burnt, replace it.
  • Dry hits: usually caused by vaping a nearly empty pod, running too high a wattage for the coil, chain-vaping without letting the wick recover, or using a very thick liquid at low power.
  • Leaking: check that the pod is seated firmly, the fill port is closed completely and the pod was not overfilled. Condensation at the base is normal, so wipe it away rather than assuming a fault. Changing the airflow setting to a tighter draw can also reduce spitting.
  • Gurgling or spitting: excess liquid or condensation in the airway. Blow gently through the mouthpiece with the device off and wipe away any liquid.
  • No vapour or a coil error message: remove the pod, wipe the contacts on the pod and the device with a dry cloth, reseat it and try again. If the message persists, the coil may be dead or the pod may be faulty.
  • Weak vapour: may be a flooded coil, a worn coil or too low a wattage. Fire the coil without inhaling to clear it, or take a few gentle puffs.
  • Device will not switch on or fire: check that it has charge. Plug it in for a few minutes and try again. If the buttons are locked, unlock them using the sequence in the manual.
  • Device will not charge: try a different cable and a different power source, and check the USB-C port for lint using a wooden toothpick, not metal.
  • Battery drains faster than expected: running at high wattage reduces runtime. Lower the power or carry a power bank.
  • Pod will not seat properly: remove debris from the connection, check that the pod is the correct type for this device and avoid forcing it.

If none of these fix the issue, stop using the device and contact the supplier with your order details. A device that overheats, smells of burning, shows signs of a damaged battery or produces sparks should be taken out of use immediately and recycled safely through an appropriate WEEE or battery drop-off point.

Do not attempt to open the body, replace the battery or modify the device. Doing so is unsafe and will invalidate any warranty.

Value for money and how it compares

Judging value on a refillable kit means looking at the whole cost of ownership rather than the sticker price alone. A disposable costs less on the day but is thrown away within a few days, whereas the Luxe XR Max is a one-off hardware purchase followed by a modest running cost.

  • Hardware: a single purchase, with the device lasting a long time if handled sensibly.
  • Coils or pods: replaced every one to two weeks for most users, sold individually or in multipacks that lower the cost per coil.
  • E-liquid: the largest ongoing cost. A 10ml bottle goes further than a disposable of similar price, and shortfill-style multi-bottle bundles lower the cost per millilitre.

Over a few months, most regular vapers find a refillable kit works out cheaper than the disposables it replaces, with the added benefit of far less waste. The case for this particular kit rests on battery size, adjustable power and the mesh coil platform, which together give more flexibility than cheaper alternatives.

Fair comparisons with other kits in the same space:

  • Vaporesso XROS series: smaller, lighter and simpler, with a lower-power chip. It is easier to carry and use, but it does not have the power range or battery capacity of the Luxe XR Max. Pick the XROS if portability and simplicity matter more than adjustability.
  • Smok Nord and RPM series: also adjustable pod mods in a similar size and power class, with their own pod ecosystem. They are a reasonable alternative; the choice often comes down to coil availability, build feel and personal preference.
  • Voopoo Vinci series: comparable in format and wattage, with a different coil system and a slightly different feel in the hand. Worth considering if you already own that brand's coils.
  • Geekvape Wenax and Aegis Boost series: Geekvape offers pod systems with distinct coil designs, and the Aegis range is known for ruggedness. If you need a tougher device, it is worth a look.
  • Uwell Caliburn series: lighter, simpler and lower powered; better for MTL-style vaping and for people who want less to think about.

Where the Luxe XR Max has an edge is the combination of a large battery, a wide power range and wide coil and pod availability in the UK, which keeps replacements easy to find. Where it is weaker is size, since it is bulkier than the smallest pods, and the 2ml cap, which is the same for every UK kit but is felt more at higher power.

It is good value for someone who vapes daily, wants control over their settings and plans to keep the device for a year or more. It is less compelling for an occasional vaper, who would do just as well with a simpler, cheaper device.

Frequently asked questions

What nicotine strength should I use with the Luxe XR Max?

It depends on your wattage. At 15 to 25W, 10 to 20mg/ml nicotine salt is a common choice, with 20mg/ml being the UK legal maximum. At 40W and above, use a lower strength of 3 to 6mg/ml, ideally in a high-VG liquid. If you are unsure, start lower and move up one step at a time.

How long does the Luxe XR Max take to charge?

Charging is by USB-C and typically takes a little over an hour on a 2A charger, and longer on a basic phone charger. Use a reputable charger and cable, do not charge unattended or overnight, and unplug once the screen shows it is full.

Does the kit come with flavours, and can I swap between them?

No. It is a refillable kit, so flavour comes from the e-liquid you buy separately. The eight variants in this family are colours or finishes, not flavours. To change flavour, empty the pod, rinse it with lukewarm water, let it dry completely, then refill with the new liquid.

How many puffs will a pod give me?

There is no rated puff count on a refillable kit. A 2ml pod at moderate wattage typically gives roughly 150 to 300 puffs, and more at low power. Higher wattage and thick or sweet liquids use the pod and coil up faster.

How often do I need to replace the coil?

Most people replace a GTX coil every one to two weeks. Sweet, thick liquids and high wattages shorten that, while menthol or tobacco flavours extend it. Replace it when flavour turns burnt or muted, or vapour drops off.

Is the Luxe XR Max good value compared with disposables?

For regular daily vapers it usually works out cheaper over a few months, because you pay once for the device and then only for e-liquid and coils. It also produces far less waste. Single-use disposables can no longer be sold in the UK, so a refillable kit is the direct alternative.

Who should buy this kit, and who should not?

It suits adult smokers and ex-smokers who want adjustable power, a bigger battery and mesh-coil flavour. It is not suitable for non-smokers or anyone under 18. If you want the simplest possible device, a smaller closed-pod kit may be a better match.

Do you deliver to the UK, and how does age verification work?

Yes, we ship to UK addresses. Delivery options and times are shown at checkout, and you must be 18 or over to buy. Age verification may be requested at checkout or on delivery, and orders cannot be released to anyone under 18.

What warranty or returns cover applies?

Vaporesso devices come with a manufacturer warranty against faults, and your statutory rights under UK consumer law also apply. Pods, coils and e-liquid are consumables and are not covered for normal wear. Contact us with your order number if the device arrives faulty, and see the returns page for current terms.

How do I recycle the device when it is finished with?

Do not put it in household waste, because it contains a built-in lithium-ion battery. Take it to a retailer that offers electrical take-back, or to your local council recycling centre's WEEE or battery drop-off point.
