GeekVape Z200 Vape Kit overview

The GeekVape Z200 Vape Kit is a refillable sub-ohm starter kit from Geekvape, the Shenzhen manufacturer best known for its tough Aegis range and its mesh-coil tanks. Where a pod system or a single-use device locks you into one liquid and one way of vaping, the Z200 pairs a regulated box mod with a refillable tank. You choose the e-liquid, you choose the nicotine strength, and you can swap the coil when it wears out. Looked after properly, the hardware keeps working for years rather than days.

The model name tells you most of what matters. The 200 points to a 200W-class power ceiling, which in a box mod almost always means a dual 18650 battery layout. That is a lot of headroom. Most people never need all of it, but it means the chipset is not working flat out at everyday settings, and it gives you room to run lower-resistance mesh coils the way they were designed to be run.

This page is a long, practical guide for UK vapers. It covers what the kit is, how it performs, how it tastes, how to charge and maintain it, which nicotine strengths make sense, and how it compares with other kits at a similar price. Where we cannot be certain of an exact figure for a specific bundle, we say so and tell you where to check. Specifications are sometimes revised between production batches, so always confirm the final details on the listing before you buy.

  • Type: refillable sub-ohm box mod kit with tank
  • Power class: up to roughly 200W, dual 18650 layout
  • Vaping style: mouth-to-lung and direct-to-lung, depending on coil and airflow setting
  • Variants in this range: five, which share the same electronics and differ in colourway and finish
  • Age limit: 18+ only, in line with UK law

If you are moving over from smoking, a kit this size is not always the gentlest first step, and we cover that honestly further down. If you already vape and want more vapour, more flavour and a device you can maintain yourself, the Z200 sits squarely in the territory it was designed for.

What is in the box and what you need to add

A typical Geekvape Z-series kit includes the box mod, a sub-ohm tank with at least one mesh coil pre-installed, a spare coil or glass section in some bundles, a USB-C charging cable, spare O-rings and a quick-start card. The exact contents vary between bundles, so treat the list on the product page as the final word. What the box almost never includes is the one thing you cannot run the mod without: batteries.

Because of carrier restrictions on shipping loose lithium cells, the great majority of UK sub-ohm kits are sold without 18650 cells. A dual-battery mod needs two matching cells, both from the same brand, the same capacity and the same batch, bought and charged together and always used as a pair. Do not mix an old cell with a new one, and do not mix brands. Mismatched cells discharge unevenly, which shortens their life and, in a worst case, creates a safety problem.

Here is a sensible shopping list for a first day with the Z200.

  • Two high-drain 18650 cells from a reputable brand, rated for at least 20A continuous discharge. Check the label and avoid cells with vague or inflated mAh claims.
  • Battery cases for carrying spare cells. Never put loose cells in a pocket with coins or keys.
  • An external charger if you want the best cell health. USB-C charging in the mod works, but a dedicated charger is gentler and quicker.
  • E-liquid in 10ml bottles, because that is the maximum size allowed for nicotine e-liquid in the UK. Shortfills over 10ml are nicotine-free and need nicotine shots added if you want strength.
  • Spare coils that match the tank. Check the coil code printed on the one fitted, then buy the same family.

It is worth buying the cells at the same time as the kit so you can start straight away. A mod without cells is a very expensive paperweight, and it is the most common reason first-time buyers email us in the first week.

Performance and vapour delivery

Performance on a kit like this comes down to three things: how quickly the coil heats, how much e-liquid it can feed to that coil, and how much air passes through the chamber. A 200W-class mod gives the chipset plenty of capacity, and a mesh coil gives a large heating surface. Put those together and the Z200 produces dense, warm vapour with very little lag between pressing the button and feeling the draw.

In practice, the sweet spot for most mesh coils sits well below the headline wattage. A low-resistance mesh coil of around 0.2 to 0.4 ohms commonly runs happily in the 40 to 80W bracket, and that is where the kit gives its best balance of flavour, vapour and battery life. Climbing towards 100W and beyond increases vapour and warmth, but it also burns through e-liquid and cells faster, and it can scorch a coil if the liquid is too thick to feed it.

  • Low range (30 to 50W): cooler, more flavour-focused, longest battery life. Suits mouth-to-lung style with the airflow partly closed.
  • Mid range (50 to 80W): the practical everyday zone. Warm vapour, good flavour definition, sensible liquid use.
  • High range (80W and above): large clouds and a hot draw. Works best with thinner, higher-VG-friendly liquids and wide-open airflow. Expect to refill often.

The regulated chipset also matters. It protects against short circuits, low resistance, over-discharge and overheating, and it should display a clear warning if something is wrong with the coil connection. Firmware behaviour varies by batch, so read the quick-start card for button combinations such as locking the fire button and adjusting power.

One honest point: very high power is not a sign of a better device by itself. Plenty of experienced vapers spend most of their time between 50 and 70W on a kit like this. If you do not intend to chase clouds, you are paying for headroom more than for output, and that headroom is mostly useful because it keeps the electronics comfortable.

Flavour profile and getting the best taste

Mesh coils have a reputation for flavour that is fuller and more even than older round-wire coils, and the Z200 follows that pattern when it is set up properly. Because the heating surface is wide and flat, the liquid is warmed uniformly rather than at a single hot spot. The result is that fruit, menthol and dessert notes tend to arrive cleanly rather than muddy or harsh. You get a pronounced top note, a clear middle, and less of the burnt edge that can creep in with an overdriven coil.

Flavour depends on much more than the device, so here are the settings and habits that make the biggest difference.

  • Prime every new coil. Drip a few drops of e-liquid directly onto the exposed mesh, fill the tank, and wait at least five to ten minutes before the first draw. Skipping this is the number one cause of a burnt first taste.
  • Start low. Begin at the bottom of the wattage range printed on the coil and move up in 2 to 3W steps until the flavour is full without becoming harsh.
  • Match the liquid to the coil. Thinner 50/50 PG/VG liquids feed fastest and give the sharpest flavour. High-VG liquids give thicker vapour but need a lower-resistance mesh coil with wide wicking channels.
  • Close the airflow slightly. A narrower airflow slot concentrates the vapour and can lift flavour, especially on menthol and sweet profiles.
  • Keep one flavour per coil where you can. Mesh coils hold onto flavour. Swapping from a dark tobacco to a sharp mint on the same coil will leave traces behind.

Sweet, dessert and fruit liquids tend to show their best character on mesh because the larger surface area vaporises sugars gently. Menthol and ice profiles keep their cooling sensation well, but over a longer session they can fade as the coil ages. Tobacco and nut profiles need a little more warmth, so nudge the power up slightly compared with a fruit liquid. If a liquid tastes flat after several days with no other change, replace the coil before blaming the e-liquid.

Design, build quality and ergonomics

Geekvape built its reputation on toughness, and the Z-series carries that into a more everyday-carry shape. The Z200 is a mid-sized dual-battery box with rounded edges, a single fire button and a compact screen. It will not slip into a skinny jean pocket the way a pod device will, but it is a comfortable one-handed grip, and the weight of two 18650 cells gives it a reassuring heft rather than a toy-like feel.

The body is cast from a zinc alloy, as is common in this class. That gives rigidity and a premium feel, and it takes finishes well, which is where the five variants in this range differ. The electronics are identical across colourways; the choice is purely about how you want the device to look. Darker finishes hide fingerprints and scuffs better, while bright or metallic ones show wear sooner but stand out in a bag.

  • Fire button: large and clicky, with a firm travel. It is easy to find by feel, and it should not rattle.
  • Screen: small and clear, showing power, resistance, battery state and puff data. Brightness is adequate indoors, and shaded outdoors it can be harder to read.
  • Battery door: usually a secure magnetic or sliding cover. Test that it sits flush when you load your cells.
  • Charging port: USB-C, which is easier on the port than the older micro-USB standard and handy because it is the same cable most phones use.
  • 510 connector: a standard threaded connection that takes the bundled tank and most third-party 510 tanks.

Sub-ohm tanks in this class are normally built with a stainless-steel body, a glass section and a top-fill cap that swings or slides away. Top fill is far less messy than bottom fill, and it matters if you are loading small 10ml bottles. Check that the glass sits true when you screw it in, and apply a little silicone grease to the threads when the tank is new if it feels dry.

As with any metal device, treat the finish with care. Keep it out of loose-change pockets, wipe condensation off after use, and store it upright with the tank empty if you will not use it for several days.

Battery, charging and safety

The Z200 runs from two removable 18650 lithium-ion cells. Capacity in these cells typically ranges from about 2,500 to 3,500mAh each, and the higher-capacity cells often have a slightly lower maximum continuous discharge rating. For a vaping mod you want a cell with a verified discharge rating of at least 20A, from a brand you recognise. Never rely on the capacity figure alone, and treat unusually high claims as a warning sign.

Battery life on a mod like this depends on how hard you push it. As a rough guide, two quality cells at a mid-range 50 to 70W setting give most people a full day of moderate use, and heavier vapers will want a second set charged and ready. At 100W and above you will use cells noticeably faster, and you may find you need to swap by early afternoon.

  • Charge in the mod using the USB-C port for convenience, but do not leave it charging overnight or unattended.
  • Prefer an external charger when you can. It lets you charge cells individually, usually at a better-controlled rate.
  • Use the right cable and plug. A good-quality USB charger rated at 1A to 2A is plenty. Unknown or damaged cables are a risk.
  • Inspect your cells. If the wrapper is torn, bare metal shows, or the cell is dented or hot to touch during charging, stop using it and recycle it.
  • Carry spares in a case. A loose cell touching metal can short out, which is the most common route to battery incidents.

When a cell reaches the end of its life, which for a daily vaper is often twelve to eighteen months, do not put it in household waste or general recycling. Lithium cells start fires in bin lorries and waste plants. In the UK, take them to a battery recycling point. Most large supermarkets, DIY stores and council recycling centres have dedicated battery bins, and vape retailers are expected to offer take-back for electrical products. Taking an old cell to a drop-off point is free and takes a minute.

The mod itself is electrical waste too. If you ever replace it, use a WEEE collection point rather than the bin.

Coil and mesh technology explained

The coil is the part of any tank that does the work, and the part that wears out. In a mesh coil, a thin sheet of perforated metal is folded into a cylinder and wrapped in organic cotton. Compared with a round-wire coil, the mesh has far more surface area in contact with the cotton and the airflow. That is why mesh coils warm up quickly, heat the liquid evenly and produce dense vapour at lower temperatures.

Geekvape's tank ranges use proprietary coils that fit only their own tanks, so you cannot assume a coil from another brand will work. Always buy the coil family that matches the one printed on the side of the base or the coil head itself. Resistance and recommended wattage are printed on each coil, and most coils in this class fall between about 0.15 and 0.4 ohms.

  • Lower resistance (around 0.15 to 0.25 ohms): higher recommended wattage, bigger vapour, warmer draw, shorter coil life and heavier battery drain. Best with an open airflow and thinner liquid.
  • Higher resistance (around 0.3 to 0.4 ohms): lower wattage, cooler vapour, better flavour at everyday settings and longer battery life. A good fit for people who want a tighter draw.
  • Cotton type: organic cotton is standard. It should be well-saturated before first use.

Coil life depends on the liquid and the power. Sweet liquids with high sweetener content cause residue to build on the mesh and shorten the life. As a rule of thumb, a coil lasts roughly one to three weeks for a daily vaper. Signs a coil is finished include a muted or burnt taste, a gurgling sound, a thinner vapour, and a rise in leaking.

Replace the coil when these signs appear rather than trying to push it. A fresh coil costs a few pounds and restores the flavour at once. Some vapers extend coil life by rinsing the tank between refills, not chain vaping on a dry coil, and letting a freshly filled tank rest for a few minutes before the first draw.

One further note on tank capacity: UK rules cap tank size at 2ml, so the tank in a UK kit holds less than the large versions sold elsewhere. Fill it more often rather than looking for oversized tanks from unknown sources.

Nicotine strength and e-liquid guidance

Nicotine choice matters more with a powerful device than with a small pod. A kit that makes dense, warm vapour delivers nicotine quickly and in a larger volume per puff, and that changes which strength suits you. UK law caps nicotine e-liquid at 20mg/ml, and bottles are limited to 10ml, but just because 20mg is legal does not mean it is right for a 200W-class kit.

As a rule, the more air and vapour you produce per puff, the lower the strength you need. Most users of sub-ohm kits find that 3 to 6mg freebase nicotine is comfortable, and many go lower. Nicotine salts, which are popular in pods because they feel smoother at high strengths, are generally better kept for lower-power devices. In a dense, warm sub-ohm cloud they can feel overwhelming.

  • 0mg: for anyone who has stopped using nicotine and just enjoys the flavour. Shortfills are sold in larger bottles, which suit the Z200 well.
  • 3mg: a gentle level for former heavy vapers or those who have reduced their intake and want large clouds.
  • 6mg: a common starting point for light-to-moderate smokers switching to a sub-ohm kit at lower power.
  • 12mg: for heavier smokers moving across who still want a sub-ohm style. Expect a stronger throat sensation at higher wattage.
  • 18 to 20mg: better suited to restricted mouth-to-lung devices than to a powerful mod. Use only if you are certain.

Liquid ratio matters too. A 50/50 PG/VG blend feeds a mesh coil quickly, carries flavour well and suits lower to mid power. A 70/30 VG/PG blend gives thicker vapour and works at higher power on lower-resistance coils. Very thick liquids can starve a coil that has small wicking holes, so match your choice to the coil specification.

If you are unsure, start lower than you think you need. It is easy to step up a strength, and a dose that is too high will tell you straight away through a harsh throat hit, dizziness or nausea. Anyone who is pregnant, has a heart condition or takes regular medication should speak to a GP or pharmacist before switching to nicotine vaping. This page is general information, not medical advice.

Who the Z200 is for and who should look elsewhere

Every device suits some people better than others. Here is an honest breakdown of who tends to get on well with the Z200 and who might be happier with something different.

Good fit:

  • Existing vapers who have outgrown a basic pod and want more vapour and flavour.
  • People who want to learn how coils, wattage and airflow interact, and enjoy tuning a setup.
  • Anyone who prefers a refillable system for cost reasons or to choose their own e-liquid from the huge range of flavours available.
  • Vapers who want to run both a tighter, cooler vape and an open, cloudy one from the same device by changing coil and airflow.
  • Users who want a rugged, replaceable-battery device rather than one with a built-in cell that wears out.

Think twice:

  • First-time switchers who just want to hold a small device and press a button. A compact pod or a pen-style kit will feel closer to the cigarette they are leaving and has far fewer variables.
  • People who need a pocketable device for long commutes. A dual-battery box is bulkier and heavier than a pod.
  • Those who do not want to deal with loose batteries. The Z200 needs two cells that you must buy, charge, care for and replace.
  • Heavy smokers who plan to use high-strength nicotine in a sub-ohm tank. The combination can be too harsh, and a mouth-to-lung device with salt nicotine is usually a better starting point.

It is also worth being clear about one thing: vaping is much less harmful than smoking, according to UK public health bodies, but it is not risk-free and it is not for people who have never smoked. If you do not smoke or vape now, you do not need this device. It is sold strictly to adults aged 18 and over.

If you are not sure where you sit, think about how you want your vape to feel. If you enjoy the idea of tinkering, a mod is satisfying. If you want simplicity, there are better options at a lower price.

How to set up and use the kit

Setting up a sub-ohm kit takes a few minutes, and getting it right the first time prevents most of the problems that put people off. Follow these steps in order.

  • Step 1: Check the parts. Unpack the mod, tank, coil, O-rings and cable. Make sure the O-rings are seated and undamaged.
  • Step 2: Rinse the tank. Wash the tank body and glass with warm water, dry thoroughly and reassemble. This removes manufacturing dust and any oils.
  • Step 3: Fit the coil. Screw the coil firmly into the base so it is snug but not over-tightened. A loose coil causes poor connection and leaks.
  • Step 4: Prime the coil. Drip e-liquid onto the exposed cotton through the coil's wicking holes until it is dark and wet.
  • Step 5: Fill the tank. Open the top-fill cap, tilt the tank, and fill using the bottle nozzle without covering the central airflow tube. Close the cap and leave the tank for five to ten minutes.
  • Step 6: Load the batteries. Insert both cells with the positive end in the direction shown inside the battery door. Close the door.
  • Step 7: Power on. Press the fire button five times quickly to switch on, which is the usual convention, then check the quick-start card if it does not respond.
  • Step 8: Set the power. Choose a wattage at the low end of the range printed on the coil. Increase gradually.
  • Step 9: Take gentle first puffs. Use short draws to check for any dry or burnt notes, and increase only once the flavour is clean.

Everyday use is simple. Keep the tank at least a quarter full to avoid the coil running dry. Take slower, longer draws on a sub-ohm setup rather than short sharp ones, and give the coil a few seconds between draws if you are chain vaping. Lock the fire button when the device is in a bag or pocket. Most devices lock with five quick presses, and unlock the same way.

For maintenance, wipe the connector and battery contacts with a dry cloth every week, check the O-rings for cracks, and strip and rinse the tank each time you change the coil. A little care here makes a large difference to taste and to how long the hardware lasts.

Troubleshooting common problems

Most issues with a mod and tank have a simple cause. Work through these before assuming the device is faulty.

  • Burnt taste straight away: the coil was not primed, or the wattage is too high. Let the tank rest, drop the power by 5 to 10W, and take gentler puffs. If it persists, replace the coil.
  • Gurgling or spitting: too much liquid is reaching the chamber. Close the airflow slightly, make sure the coil is seated properly and check that the tank is not overfilled.
  • Leaking from the base or airflow: check the O-rings, make sure the glass is tight, and avoid filling above the line. Leaks are also more likely with very thin liquids, so check the PG/VG ratio.
  • Weak or muted flavour: the coil is ageing, or the liquid is a poor fit. Replace the coil and try a different bottle before changing anything else.
  • Device shows check atomiser or no atomiser: the coil is not making contact. Unscrew the tank, wipe the 510 pin and the coil's contact, and refit it. Make sure the tank is screwed down snugly.
  • Device will not switch on: check the cells are installed the right way, charged, and that the contacts are clean. If it still fails, try fresh cells.
  • Battery drains quickly: a lower-resistance coil at high wattage will do this. Reduce power, check the age of the cells and verify they are rated for the current draw.
  • Hot device or cells: stop vaping at once, remove the cells carefully once cool, and do not use the device again until you have found the cause. If you suspect a fault with a cell, recycle it.

If you have tried these steps and the device still misbehaves, contact the shop with your order number, the symptoms and a clear photo of the screen or the parts. A faulty unit should be dealt with under the retailer's returns and warranty process, and we can usually tell quickly whether it is a coil issue, a cell issue or a hardware defect.

Keep a spare coil and a spare pair of cells in your bag. With those two, nearly every common breakdown can be fixed in a couple of minutes.

Value for money and how it compares to alternatives

Value in a vape kit is a mix of the purchase price, the cost of running it, and how long it lasts. A refillable kit like the Z200 costs more up front than a pod starter, and you need to budget for two quality 18650 cells and e-liquid. The running costs, though, are usually lower than disposable or closed-pod systems, because refill bottles are cheaper per millilitre and coils are inexpensive. Over several months, most regular vapers recover the extra cost.

Single-use disposable vapes can no longer be sold in Great Britain, following the ban that came into force on 1 June 2025. Where disposables were once a popular entry point, refillable and rechargeable kits like this one are now the mainstream alternative, and they also create far less waste. When you compare the cost of a kit and its refills with a long run of throwaway devices, the reusable option comes out well ahead.

Here is a fair look at where the Z200 sits against other options.

  • Versus a Vaporesso GEN 200: both are dual 18650 mods in the 200W class. The Vaporesso leans on a feature-rich touch-style interface, while Geekvape's strength is its rugged, no-nonsense build. Choose on interface preference and which tank and coil system you like.
  • Versus a Voopoo Drag 5 style kit: similar format and price bracket. The Voopoo has its own coil range and a distinctive look. Both offer a good mid-range experience, so coil availability and cost are worth comparing.
  • Versus an Aegis Legend style Geekvape device: the Aegis line is built to resist water, dust and drops. If you work outdoors or on site and need that durability, it is the better pick. If you mostly vape at home or in the office, the Z200 is a more everyday proposition.
  • Versus a compact pod kit: a pod is simpler, smaller and works well with nicotine salts, but it produces less vapour and offers less control. A Z200 gives you more choice for a bit more effort.

Where the kit is strongest is in the combination of dual-battery endurance, a broad power range, and a mesh coil system with good flavour. Where it is weaker is in size and in the extra things to buy and manage. If you value tuning and a long service life, it is good value. If you want to open the box and vape in one minute, spend your money on a pod.

Frequently asked questions

What nicotine strength should I choose for the GeekVape Z200?

Most people using a sub-ohm kit like this are comfortable with 3 to 6mg freebase nicotine, and many go lower because the device produces a lot of vapour per puff. UK law caps nicotine e-liquid at 20mg/ml, but that level is better suited to small mouth-to-lung devices. If you are unsure, start low and move up one step at a time.

Does the kit come with batteries, and how do I charge them?

UK sub-ohm kits are normally sold without 18650 batteries, so check the listing and plan to buy two matching high-drain cells. You can charge them in the mod through the USB-C port, or more gently in an external charger. Never leave cells charging unattended or overnight.

There are five variants. Do they perform differently?

The variants in this range share the same electronics, tank and coil system, and differ in colourway and finish. Pick the one you like the look of, and check which options are in stock on the product page, as availability changes.

How long does a coil last in the Z200 tank?

A mesh coil typically lasts between one and three weeks for a daily vaper, depending on your power setting and the sweetness of your e-liquid. When the taste turns muted or burnt, or the tank starts gurgling, it is time for a fresh coil. Priming each new coil properly helps it last longer.

Is the GeekVape Z200 good value compared with disposables?

Disposable vapes can no longer be sold in Great Britain, so the comparison is now with pods and other reusable kits. A refillable kit costs more at the start, plus the cost of cells, but refill bottles and coils are cheap, so most regular vapers save money over a few months. It also creates far less waste.

Who should and shouldn't buy this kit?

It suits existing vapers who want more vapour and flavour and are happy to manage batteries and coils. It is not ideal for complete beginners who want a simple press-and-puff device, or for anyone who has never smoked or vaped. It is sold only to adults aged 18 or over.

Can I use any e-liquid in this kit?

Most standard e-liquids will work, but choose a blend that suits your coil. Thinner 50/50 PG/VG liquids suit lower power, while 70/30 VG/PG suits low-resistance coils at higher wattage. In the UK, nicotine e-liquid is sold in bottles of up to 10ml, and larger shortfill bottles are nicotine-free.

How fast is delivery to the UK, and what about returns and warranty?

We dispatch to UK addresses with tracked delivery options, and the checkout shows the available services and timings for your postcode. If the device is faulty on arrival, contact us with your order number and a photo and we will arrange a repair, replacement or refund under the warranty and returns policy. Coils and e-liquid, once opened, cannot normally be returned for hygiene reasons.

How do I dispose of old batteries and the device safely?

Never put lithium cells in household bins or general recycling. Take them to a battery drop-off point, which most large supermarkets, DIY stores and council recycling centres provide. The mod itself should go to an electrical waste collection point.

Does what it should. Smooth hit, no burnt taste even after a couple of weeks. Would recommend.
