SMOK ProPod Pod Vape Kit: What It Is and What You Are Buying

The SMOK ProPod Pod Vape Kit is a compact, refillable pod system from Smok, a manufacturer that has been making pod devices, mods and replacement coils for many years. It is a starter-level kit, listed at £19.99 on VapeShopOnline, and it is aimed at adult smokers and existing vapers who want a small, simple device they can fill with their own e-liquid. There are no menus to learn, no coils to build and no cotton to wick. You fill a pod, seat it in the battery body, and draw on the mouthpiece.

The refillable design is the point of the kit. A disposable vape bundles the plastic, the battery and the liquid into one item that goes in the bin when the liquid runs out. Single-use vapes have been banned from sale in Great Britain since June 2025, so adults who liked the pocketable convenience of a disposable now need a different route. A refillable pod kit is the obvious one. You pay for the hardware once, then buy e-liquid by the bottle and a fresh pod every so often.

An important thing to understand before buying is what the kit does not include. A pod kit like this one is sold without e-liquid, so the device on its own contains no nicotine. The nicotine strength, the flavour and the amount of vapour you end up with are mostly set by the bottle you choose to put in it. That is why this guide spends as much time on e-liquid as on hardware.

The ProPod is listed in several colourways, including Black, Pink and Red. All of them are the same kit with a different finish, so the choice is cosmetic rather than technical.

In this guide we cover how the kit performs, how to pick flavour and nicotine strength, what to expect from the battery and pod, who the kit suits and who should look elsewhere, how to fill and look after it, how to fix the usual faults, and how it compares with other pod kits at a similar price. Where we describe specifications, we give what is normal for compact refillable pod kits and tell you to confirm the exact figure on the product page or in the manual, because we would rather be accurate than impressive.

  • Type: refillable starter pod kit, sold without e-liquid
  • Brand: Smok
  • Price: £19.99 for the kit
  • Pod capacity: up to 2ml, the legal maximum for refillable pods in the UK
  • Age restriction: strictly 18+, and a legal ID check applies on delivery

Performance and Vapour Delivery in Everyday Use

Compact starter pod kits in this price band are designed around a mouth-to-lung draw. You pull vapour into your mouth first, pause for a moment, then inhale it. That is the same rhythm as drawing on a cigarette, which is why this style is popular with people who are moving over from smoking. The airflow is fairly tight, the vapour is moderate rather than dense, and the throat hit comes mostly from the nicotine strength you choose rather than from raw power.

If you are used to sub-ohm tanks and big clouds, the ProPod will feel restrained. That is by design. A small battery and a small pod are tuned for efficiency and discretion, not for volume. If you are used to a disposable, you will probably find the draw similar in tightness, with the advantage that the vapour and flavour stay consistent from the first fill to the last drop, because you control the liquid.

How many puffs you get from one fill is the question we hear most. A 2ml pod filled to the line gives you somewhere in the region of 250 to 450 puffs for typical mouth-to-lung use, depending on how long you hold each draw, how thick your e-liquid is and how warm the coil runs. That is an honest working range rather than a promise. Disposable packaging quotes enormous puff counts that are measured under machine conditions, and real-world figures are always lower. The same caution applies to any pod kit, so treat any single number with scepticism, ours included.

  • Short, steady draws give better flavour and longer pod life than long, hard pulls.
  • Thinner e-liquid (a balanced VG and PG blend) wicks faster and avoids dry hits in a small coil.
  • Nicotine salts deliver a smoother hit at higher strengths, which suits this style of device.
  • Pausing between puffs lets the wick re-saturate, which prevents burnt tastes.

For a typical adult vaper using the kit through a normal day, expect to refill the pod a few times and to top up the battery once a day, sometimes twice. Heavy users who chain-vape will find that the small pod and battery demand more attention. We say that plainly because it is the main trade-off of the format: you gain size and simplicity, and you give up capacity.

Flavour Profile: What the Kit Decides and What Your E-Liquid Decides

The ProPod has no flavour of its own, and this is where some first-time buyers get confused. The colours listed for the kit, such as Black, Pink and Red, are the colour of the casing. They are not flavours. Whatever flavour you taste comes from the e-liquid you pour into the pod, which means you can change it as often as you like.

What the hardware does decide is how that flavour is delivered. A small mouth-to-lung coil heats a modest amount of liquid at moderate temperature, and that tends to produce clean, defined flavour with good clarity on fruit, menthol, mint and tobacco profiles. Rich dessert and custard blends are more demanding, because heavier, sweeter liquids can build up on the coil faster and shorten its life.

If you are choosing your first bottles, these are sensible starting points for this style of device.

  • Tobacco: a light or medium tobacco blend is the familiar choice for adults moving over from cigarettes, and it works well in a tight draw.
  • Menthol and mint: cool profiles tend to come through crisply and are very popular with this type of kit.
  • Fruit and ice: berry, citrus and fruit-and-ice blends show off the clarity of a small coil.
  • Sweet and dessert: enjoyable, but plan on changing pods a little more often.

A new pod can taste faintly of plastic or have a slightly muted first few puffs. This is normal and it clears once the wick is fully soaked. Priming the pod properly, which we describe in the how-to section, helps a great deal.

When you change flavours, remember that a coil holds on to the previous liquid. Switching from a strong menthol to a delicate fruit in the same pod usually ends in a muddy taste. If flavours matter to you, keep a spare pod for each style, or swap the pod when you swap the family of flavour. Because the kit is refillable and not sealed, you are never locked into a single taste, and that freedom is one of the strongest reasons to prefer a refillable device to a disposable.

Design, Colours and Build Quality

The ProPod is built to be carried. Compact pod kits in this class are slim, light and sized to slide into a jeans pocket or a small bag without a bulge. The body is a single piece that holds the battery and the pod seat, with a mouthpiece on the pod itself. There is very little to snag or break, and nothing to unscrew in normal use.

It comes in Black, Pink and Red. Black is the practical choice, since it hides scuffs and fingerprints better than lighter finishes. Pink and Red look livelier and are easier to spot in a bag, which is useful if you tend to lose small devices. Whatever you choose, expect the finish to pick up some light marks over months of pocket life, as every small device does.

On build quality, our advice is to judge the kit on three things when it arrives.

  • Pod fit: the pod should seat firmly with a positive click and no wobble. A loose pod is the most common cause of intermittent firing and leaks.
  • Body seams: the shell should feel solid, with even gaps and no creaking under light pressure.
  • Contacts: the metal contacts at the base of the pod and in the body should look clean and sit flush.

The pod has a window or a translucent wall so you can see the liquid level at a glance. Get into the habit of checking it, because running a pod dry is the quickest way to burn a coil. The mouthpiece is shaped for comfortable, relaxed lips, and a small drip tip style opening keeps the draw cool.

Treat the device with ordinary care. Do not leave it in a hot car, do not drop it on hard floors, and do not carry it loose in a pocket with keys or coins, which can scratch the finish and, in the worst case, bridge the contacts. A small pouch or a pocket of its own costs nothing and extends the life of the kit. If you are buying as a gift for an adult, the colour options make it easy to match a personality, but remember that the device is for people aged 18 or over only.

Battery Life and Charging

Compact refillable pod kits generally carry an internal battery somewhere between about 400 and 1,000mAh, and the ProPod sits in that normal range for the category. The exact capacity is printed on the product page and the box, and you should check it there rather than rely on an estimate from us. What matters in practice is how that translates into a day of use.

A small pod kit with a modest battery uses very little power per puff, because the coil is a low-wattage mouth-to-lung design. For a typical adult vaper, a full charge covers most of a day. For someone who vapes steadily from morning to night, the battery may need a top-up mid-afternoon. As a rule of thumb, plan to charge once a day, and make it a habit to plug in when you are at a desk or at home, so you are never caught short.

Charging is done through the cable supplied in the box, usually from a standard USB socket. A few sensible habits will extend the life of the battery and keep charging safe.

  • Use a standard 5V USB adapter or a computer port, not a damaged or unbranded charger of unknown quality.
  • Do not charge under a pillow, on a bed or on a sofa cushion. Keep the device on a hard, uncluttered surface.
  • Do not leave it charging unattended for long periods, particularly overnight.
  • Stop using a swollen, hot or damaged device and do not attempt to charge it.
  • Avoid draining it to zero every day. Topping up earlier is kinder to the cell.

Small lithium cells typically manage a few hundred full charge cycles before capacity noticeably fades. For someone charging daily, that is a year or more of useful life, and often longer if the device is looked after. When the battery eventually stops holding a useful charge, the kit is at the end of its life.

That brings us to disposal. Vapes contain a lithium battery and must never go in household bin bags or kerbside recycling, because crushed batteries cause fires in bin lorries and sorting plants. Take old devices to a household waste recycling centre with a small electricals bin, or to a retailer that offers vape take-back. Shops that sell vapes are expected to accept old devices for recycling, so ask at the counter. Doing this properly is a small effort that keeps a real fire risk out of the waste stream.

Pods, Coils and How the Heating System Works

The ProPod uses a refillable pod with the heating element built in. When the coil is worn out, you replace the whole pod, not just a coil head. This design is the reason these kits are so easy to run: nothing needs wicking, nothing needs priming with a syringe, and there are no tiny parts to lose.

Inside the pod, a coil of resistance wire heats a cotton wick. As you draw, the battery sends current to the coil, the wick warms, and the liquid turns into vapour. Pods for mouth-to-lung kits commonly sit between about 0.8 and 1.4 ohm. Higher resistance means gentler heat and a tighter draw, which suits nicotine salts and conserves liquid. Lower resistance means a warmer vape with more vapour. Some modern pods use a mesh coil, a flat screen of fine metal with a large surface area that heats evenly, and others use a classic round wire. Mesh tends to give more consistent flavour and quicker ramp-up, while round wire is simpler and often cheaper. Check the pod listing for the specific resistance and construction of the pod you are buying.

Two practical points deserve emphasis.

  • Pods are brand and family specific. Smok makes several pod families, and a pod from one line will not necessarily fit another. Do not assume a Novo pod fits a ProPod body. Always match the pod to the kit on the product page.
  • Coil life depends on what you vape. A pod used daily with a light fruit or menthol liquid can last one to two weeks. Heavily sweetened dessert liquids leave residue on the coil and can shorten that to a week or less.

Signs that a coil is nearing the end of its life include a burnt or flat taste, a drop in vapour, a gurgling sound and increased leaking. Replacing the pod at that point restores the original flavour immediately. Do not try to squeeze extra days out of a failing coil, because it only produces harsh vapour and wastes your e-liquid.

Finally, remember the legal limits that shape every pod on the UK market. Refillable pods hold a maximum of 2ml, and e-liquid bottles are capped at 10ml. That is why small pod kits need regular refilling, and why you should always carry a bottle if you are out for the day.

Nicotine Strength Guidance for UK Vapers

Because the kit is sold empty, nicotine strength is entirely your decision, and it deserves some thought. UK rules cap e-liquid at 20mg of nicotine per millilitre, which is 2%. That is a ceiling, not a target. Most adults do not need to start at the top, and a lower strength is usually more comfortable if you are unsure.

A second choice is the type of nicotine. Freebase nicotine is the traditional kind and feels sharper in the throat as the strength rises. Nicotine salts are smoother at higher strengths, which is why they have become the standard choice in small mouth-to-lung pod kits. If you are buying salts for the ProPod, the range most people use sits between 10mg and 20mg. If you are using freebase, stay at the lower end, since a tight draw concentrates the hit.

These are general starting points and not medical advice. Everyone is different, and a sensible way to calibrate is to start modestly and adjust.

  • Heavy smokers (around 20 a day or more): many start with nicotine salts at 18mg to 20mg.
  • Moderate smokers (roughly 10 to 20 a day): 10mg to 12mg is a common starting zone.
  • Light or social smokers: 3mg to 6mg is usually sufficient.
  • Existing vapers cutting back: stepping down gradually, for example 20mg to 12mg to 6mg, is a common approach.
  • Nicotine-free (0mg): offered for people who enjoy the habit and flavour without the nicotine.

Signs that your strength is too low include constant puffing, restlessness and cravings that return quickly. Signs it is too high include coughing, a harsh throat hit, dizziness or a nauseous feeling. If you notice the second group of symptoms, put the device down, drink some water and drop to a lower strength.

A few firm points apply to everyone. Nicotine is addictive. Vaping is for adults who already smoke or vape, and it is not intended for non-smokers or anyone under 18. If you are pregnant, have a heart condition or take regular medication, speak to a doctor or pharmacist before using any nicotine product. We cannot give medical advice, and the choice of strength is ultimately yours.

Who the ProPod Suits, and Who Should Look Elsewhere

The ProPod is a simple, low-cost refillable kit, and it is a good match for particular kinds of buyers. It is just as important to say where it is not the right tool.

It suits these adult buyers well.

  • Adult smokers moving to vaping: a tight, cigarette-like draw and a simple fill-and-go routine make it approachable.
  • Former disposable users: if you relied on single-use vapes before the ban, a pod kit gives you the same pocket size with a lower running cost.
  • Budget-conscious buyers: at £19.99 the entry cost is low and you only buy liquid and the occasional pod afterwards.
  • Light to moderate vapers: people who vape in short sessions through the day rather than continuously.
  • Anyone wanting a backup device: a second kit for the bag, the car or the office is an inexpensive safety net.

It is less suited to these buyers.

  • Cloud chasers: if you want large, dense vapour, you need a sub-ohm kit with a bigger battery and a more open airflow.
  • Heavy all-day vapers: the small pod and battery will need frequent attention, and a larger device will be less of a chore.
  • Tinkerers: if you enjoy adjusting wattage, airflow and coil builds, a mod or a variable-wattage pod system gives you that control.
  • People who want zero maintenance: a refillable device always asks a little more of you than a sealed one, in the form of filling, cleaning and changing pods.
  • Non-smokers and anyone under 18: nicotine products are not for you, and the device is not a toy or a lifestyle accessory.

A good test is to ask how you want to spend your effort. If you want a device that takes a minute to learn, costs little to run and fits in a small pocket, the ProPod is a sensible starting point. If you want power, capacity or customisation, you will outgrow it quickly, and it is better to spend more on a larger device from the start. There is no shame in either choice, and a starter kit is a perfectly reasonable way to find out what style of vaping you actually prefer before you invest more.

How to Fill, Prime and Use the ProPod

Setting up a refillable pod kit takes a couple of minutes, and doing it carefully the first time prevents most of the problems that new vapers run into. Follow these steps in order.

  • Charge first. Plug the kit in with the supplied cable and give it a full charge before first use. Most small devices show a light while charging and change the light when full.
  • Remove packaging. Peel off any plastic film or seals on the pod and make sure the contacts are clean.
  • Open the fill port. Pull back or lift the silicone plug. Check the manual for the exact location on your pod.
  • Fill the pod. Hold the pod upright and insert the bottle nozzle into the fill port. Add e-liquid slowly and stop at the maximum fill line. Do not cover the airflow hole or the central chimney, and never overfill.
  • Close the port. Push the silicone plug back firmly and wipe away any spilt liquid from the pod and your fingers.
  • Rest the pod for about five minutes. This is the priming step. It lets the cotton soak up the liquid. Skipping it is the number one cause of dry, burnt first puffs.
  • Seat the pod. Click it into the battery body until it is firm.
  • Take a few gentle puffs. Start with short, soft draws for the first two or three, to let the coil warm and the wick settle, then use as normal.

For everyday use, draw slowly, in the style of mouth-to-lung inhalation. Hold the vapour in your mouth for a moment and inhale it gently. A very long draw is not a benefit, and it only overheats the coil. Between sessions, store the kit upright and keep the mouthpiece clean.

Refill when the liquid is about a third full. Do not wait for the pod to empty, because dry coils burn. If you plan to leave the device for several days, it is wise to empty the pod, wipe it down and store it upright. A light clean of the mouthpiece with a dry tissue or a cotton bud keeps the taste fresh. Never wash the device under a tap, and do not submerge it, since moisture inside the battery housing can damage the electronics.

Troubleshooting Common Problems

Most faults on a small refillable pod kit have simple causes. Work through these before assuming the device is broken.

  • Leaking from the pod: overfilling, a loose silicone plug or a worn coil are the usual causes. Wipe the pod dry, check the plug, refill to below the line, and replace the pod if it keeps leaking.
  • Dry or burnt taste: the pod is either low on liquid, not primed or worn out. Refill, wait five minutes, and take soft puffs. If the taste persists, fit a fresh pod.
  • Gurgling noise or spitting: there may be condensation in the airflow channel. Blow gently through the mouthpiece with the pod removed to clear it, and wipe the area.
  • No vapour or the device will not fire: check the charge, then take the pod out and reseat it so the contacts meet properly. Clean the contacts with a dry cloth. If it is a draw-activated device, make sure the airflow is not blocked.
  • Flashing light: a flashing indicator usually signals a low battery or a contact problem. Charge the device and refit the pod. Your manual lists what each pattern means for your model.
  • Weak flavour: a tired coil, a very thick liquid or a recent change of flavour are the typical reasons. Try a fresh pod and a thinner e-liquid.
  • Battery drains quickly: heavy use, an old cell or a cold environment can all reduce run time. Keep the device in a warm pocket and recharge earlier in the day.
  • Device will not charge: try a different cable and a different USB adapter, and check the charging port for lint.

If you have worked through the list and the kit is still not behaving, the next step is to contact us with your order number and a short description or photo of the fault. Please do not open the battery body or try to repair the electronics yourself. Lithium cells are dangerous when mishandled. We will arrange a replacement or a refund where the device is faulty, in line with your statutory rights as a UK consumer.

One last tip. Many apparent faults are down to a pod that is simply spent. Pods cost far less than a new kit, so keeping a spare in the bag is a cheap way to avoid being without your device.

Value for Money and Running Costs

The ProPod costs £19.99. That is the whole entry fee, and after that you spend on e-liquid and pods. To judge value fairly, it helps to compare the running costs against the alternatives, using conservative assumptions.

A 10ml bottle of e-liquid typically costs somewhere between about £3 and £6, depending on brand and nicotine type. Each bottle fills a 2ml pod about five times. A moderate vaper getting through around 3ml of liquid a day would use a bottle roughly every three days, which is about nine or ten bottles a month. At an average of £4, that is around £36 a month in liquid. Add one to three replacement pods a month at a few pounds each, and a realistic monthly total sits somewhere in the region of £40 to £50. A lighter user will spend noticeably less, and a heavy user will spend more.

Compare that with your current spending. A pack of 20 cigarettes in the UK costs well into double figures, so a person smoking a pack a day can see a significant difference over a month. We do not make health claims for vaping, but the price difference is a simple matter of arithmetic. Compared with the single-use vapes that were sold until recently, which cost several pounds each and lasted only a few days, a refillable kit also works out cheaper for anyone vaping daily, and it creates far less waste.

  • Low entry cost: £19.99 to get started.
  • Cheap consumables: bottles and pods are inexpensive, and many liquids are multi-buy priced.
  • Long hardware life: the body can outlast many pods, subject to battery condition.
  • Less waste: only the pod is replaced regularly, not the whole device.

One small buying tip. The kit sits just under our free UK delivery threshold of £20. Adding a bottle of e-liquid or a spare pod takes the basket over the line, so you get free delivery and you have something to put in the device the moment it arrives. We dispatch orders placed before 4pm the same day, and every product we sell is 100% genuine, sourced from authorised channels.

As ever, the honest caveat is that value depends on use. If you find the pod and battery too small for your habit, a larger device could cost less per puff in practice. For light to moderate use, though, the ProPod is hard to fault on cost.

How the ProPod Compares with Other Pod Kits

The refillable pod kit market is crowded, and the ProPod sits at the budget end of it. Here is a fair view of where it stands against the main alternatives, including the places where a rival has a clear edge.

  • Against other Smok kits: the Novo range is Smok's most widely known pod family, with a wide choice of models and pods that are widely stocked. Some Novo models offer larger batteries or extra features, but they usually cost more. The ProPod GT is a sibling with its own pod format. If you want the least expensive way into the brand, the ProPod is it, while the Novo kits give more headroom if you expect to vape heavily.
  • Against Vaporesso XROS kits: the XROS family is a popular benchmark for compact pod vapes, with sturdy construction and a wide pod ecosystem. Those kits tend to cost more, and for that money you generally get a larger battery and a more refined pod. If your budget stretches, they are worth a look. If it does not, the ProPod does the basics for less.
  • Against Oxva Xlim and Uwell Caliburn kits: both are well regarded for consistent flavour and good build. They typically cost more than a basic starter kit, and they offer more choice of pod resistance and, on some models, adjustable airflow or power.
  • Against disposable-style refillable devices: some compact kits copy the look of disposables. They are pretty, but they often hold less liquid and offer fewer pod choices than a conventional pod kit.
  • Against tank and mod kits: bigger kits such as the Smok Nord range give more power, more capacity and wider coil options, but they are bulkier and take longer to learn.

What does the ProPod do well? It is cheap, small and easy. What does it do less well? It does not have the battery depth, the adjustability or the premium finish of kits at twice the price. It is not trying to, and that honesty about its position is what makes it a reasonable purchase.

Our advice is straightforward. If you are new to refillable vaping, or you want an inexpensive second device, start here. If you already know you vape heavily, or you want something to last for years, put the extra money into a larger kit from the Novo, XROS or Nord families. Whichever you choose, buy from a retailer that stocks genuine products and offers proper UK support, because counterfeit devices are a real problem and they put you at risk.

Frequently asked questions

What nicotine strength should I choose for the SMOK ProPod?

The kit is sold empty, so strength is set by your e-liquid. UK rules cap e-liquid at 20mg per millilitre. Heavy smokers often start with nicotine salts at 18mg to 20mg, moderate smokers around 10mg to 12mg, and light smokers 3mg to 6mg. Start lower if unsure, and adjust. Nicotine is addictive and for adult smokers and vapers only.

How do I charge the ProPod and how long does it take?

Use the cable supplied with the kit and a standard 5V USB adapter or computer port. Small pod batteries usually take around 30 to 90 minutes to charge fully, though the exact time depends on the capacity printed on the product page. Charge on a hard surface, never under a pillow, and do not leave it unattended overnight.

Does the kit come in different flavours, and can I swap them?

The kit itself has no flavour. The options listed, such as Black, Pink and Red, are colours of the casing. Flavour comes from the e-liquid you add, and you can change it whenever you like. For clean results, rinse or replace the pod when moving between very different flavour families, for example menthol to fruit.

How long does a pod last, and how long does a charge last?

A 2ml fill typically gives somewhere around 250 to 450 puffs, depending on your draw style and liquid. A pod coil often lasts one to two weeks of daily use, and less with heavily sweetened liquids. A full charge usually covers most of a day for moderate use, with a top-up for heavier users.

Is the ProPod good value compared with disposables?

For daily vapers, yes. The kit costs £19.99, and after that you buy e-liquid and the occasional pod. A moderate user spends roughly £40 to £50 a month, which is usually less than the single-use vapes that were sold before the June 2025 ban, and it produces far less waste. Value depends on how much you vape.

Who should buy the ProPod, and who should not?

It suits adult smokers moving to vaping, former disposable users and anyone wanting a cheap, pocketable refillable kit for light to moderate use. It is not ideal for heavy all-day vapers, cloud chasers or people who want adjustable power. It is not for non-smokers or anyone under 18.

Can I use pods from other Smok kits in the ProPod?

Do not assume so. Smok makes several pod families, and pods are specific to each. A Novo pod will not necessarily fit a ProPod body. Always check the pod listing states that it is compatible with this kit before ordering, and if you are unsure, contact us with your device details and we will help.

Do you deliver across the UK, and how fast?

Yes. We deliver to addresses throughout the UK, and orders placed before 4pm are dispatched the same day. Delivery is free on orders over £20, so adding a bottle of e-liquid to the £19.99 kit qualifies. An age check applies, because vape products are sold to adults aged 18 or over only.

What if my kit arrives faulty, and what is the returns policy?

Contact us with your order number and a short description or photo of the fault. Where a device is faulty we will arrange a replacement or refund in line with your statutory rights as a UK consumer. Do not open the battery body or attempt electrical repairs yourself. Please keep your packaging until the issue is resolved.

How do I dispose of the kit, and can I take it on a plane?

Never put a vape in household waste or kerbside recycling, because the lithium battery is a fire risk. Take it to a household waste recycling centre with a small electricals bin, or to a retailer that accepts old vapes. On flights, carry vapes in your hand luggage, never in the hold, and check your airline's rules.

Flavour holds up to the last puff

Honestly, I was unsure at first but this has been great. Flavour is strong and lasts the full session. No complaints at all.

Switched from another brand

Not too strong, not too mild — just right. Good for all day use without being overpowering.
