Geekvape Aegis Legend 2 Starter Kit 200W: what you are buying

The Geekvape Aegis Legend 2 Starter Kit 200W, usually shortened to the L200, is a dual-battery box mod bundled with a sub-ohm tank. It is aimed at vapers who want a rugged, high-wattage setup rather than a pocket pod. It is the second generation of the Aegis Legend line, which is where Geekvape built its reputation for tough, water-resistant mods, and it keeps that identity: a squared-off body, a grippy finish on most colourways, and an IP67 rating for dust, shock and water resistance.

This is a reusable system, not a disposable. You supply two 18650 cells, fill the tank with the e-liquid of your choice, and fire it anywhere from a gentle 25 watts up to the 200 watt ceiling. Because you control the wattage, the coil, the liquid and the nicotine strength, the same kit can behave like a relaxed all-day vape or a dense cloud-chasing setup. That flexibility is the main reason experienced vapers keep an Aegis Legend in the drawer, and the reason newer vapers who are ready to move on from pods look at it.

A few points to know before you add it to the basket:

  • Batteries are not included. Dual 18650 cells are sold separately, and they should be high-drain cells from a reputable brand.
  • It is a sub-ohm kit. It is designed for low-resistance mesh coils and thinner, higher-VG e-liquids, not for the thick salt nicotine liquids that suit pod devices.
  • It is a 200W mod, but most people will not use 200W. The headroom is useful, yet the flavour sweet spot for mesh coils tends to sit well below the ceiling.
  • UK rules shape the tank. Tanks sold with kits in the UK are capped at 2ml, so check the listing for what is in the box.

The rest of this guide walks through performance, build quality, batteries, coils, nicotine strength, who the kit suits, how to set it up, and how it compares with the other 200W-class kits you are probably also looking at. We have tried to be straight about the downsides as well as the strengths, because a kit like this only makes sense if it matches how you vape.

Performance and vapour delivery

On paper the Aegis Legend 2 outputs up to 200W, but the useful question is how it behaves in the 40 to 90 watt range, where nearly every mesh coil lives. In that window the output is steady and fast to respond. The firing delay is short, the wattage holds as the batteries drain through the first two thirds of the charge, and there is no obvious dip or stutter when you chain several puffs together.

Where the kit really shows its character is on direct-to-lung (DTL) vaping, the open, airy draw most sub-ohm users prefer. A mesh coil spreads the heating surface across a wider area than a traditional round wire coil, which means the liquid is vaporised more evenly and the flavour tends to be fuller at lower wattage. You get a warm, dense draw that does not need to be pushed to the limit to taste properly.

Rough expectations by power range, using a typical 0.4 ohm mesh coil:

  • 40 to 55W: cooler vapour, the most economical on both battery and liquid, and a good starting point for fruit and menthol flavours.
  • 55 to 70W: the range most vapers settle in. Warm vapour, full flavour, and a good balance between cloud size and coil life.
  • 70 to 90W with a lower-resistance coil: bigger, hotter vapour and heavier liquid usage. Dessert and custard flavours can taste richer here, but the coil wears faster.
  • 90W and above: available if you want it, but you will burn through battery and e-liquid quickly, and the cells have to be genuinely high-drain.

Battery life depends on wattage and puff length. As a working estimate, a pair of 3000mAh cells at around 60W delivers roughly 300 to 400 three-second puffs per charge, which for many people is a full day of moderate use. At 100W that estimate drops by about a third.

The mod also supports temperature control and bypass modes for those who want them. These are covered in the chipset section below. For most buyers, power mode with a mesh coil is where the kit earns its place, and the other modes are a bonus rather than the reason to buy.

Design, build quality and the IP67 rating

The Aegis Legend 2 is a physically substantial device. It is a dual-18650 box mod, which means it is wider and heavier than a single-battery mod or a pod kit, and it will feel it in a jacket pocket. What you get for the bulk is a body that is built to take knocks. The shell is a zinc alloy construction with a textured or leather-effect panel on many colourways, and the corners are shaped to absorb drops better than a plain metal box would.

The headline feature is the IP67 rating. In practice this means the mod is sealed against dust and can tolerate immersion in shallow water for a short time. It is not a toy to be submerged on purpose, and you should not charge it while it is wet, but it is a genuine advantage if you work outdoors, ride a bike, go camping, or simply live somewhere that rains most of the year. Many mods in this class are spoiled by one sloppy splash. This one is designed not to be.

Things worth noting about the build:

  • Buttons: a fire button and two adjustment buttons, with a firm, clicky feel and no obvious rattle.
  • Screen: a compact colour display that shows wattage, resistance, battery level and mode at a glance. It is readable indoors and acceptable in daylight.
  • 510 connector: spring-loaded, so most tanks of a suitable diameter sit flush without a visible gap.
  • Battery door: a sealed hatch that is part of the water-resistance design. Make sure the seal is seated and free of lint after every battery change.
  • Weight: with two cells and a filled tank it is on the heavier side, but balanced well enough for all-day carrying.

The 12 listings in this family are colourway variants, not different devices, so the internals and performance are the same whichever finish you choose. Typical finishes include black, silver, gunmetal, blue, red, green and camouflage styles, though exact availability changes from batch to batch. Darker finishes hide scuffs better, and textured panels are easier to hold with wet hands. If you work in a trade or on a site, the camo and black options tend to be the practical picks.

Overall the build is the kit's strongest argument. Plenty of rivals match it on wattage, but few put the same weight on durability.

Battery, charging and choosing the right cells

The Aegis Legend 2 runs on two removable 18650 lithium-ion batteries, wired in series. It does not have a fixed internal battery, which has real benefits: when a cell is flat, you can swap in a charged spare in seconds, and when a cell ages and loses capacity, you replace the cell and not the whole device.

The batteries are not supplied with the kit. That is normal for removable-cell mods, and it is also a safety matter. You should buy two matched, high-drain cells from a known manufacturer. Look for a continuous discharge rating of at least 20A and capacities in the 2500 to 3500mAh range. Well-known cell families such as Samsung, Sony Murata, LG and Molicel are the safe choices; avoid unbranded cells and anything sold at a suspiciously low price, since fake and rewrapped cells are a known risk in this market.

Practical battery habits that keep you safe and make the cells last:

  • Always use two cells of the same brand, model and age. Never mix old and new, and never pair different capacities.
  • Inspect the wrap. A torn or damaged wrap on an 18650 is a reason to replace the cell or have it re-wrapped, not to keep using it.
  • Carry spares in a case. Loose cells in a pocket with keys or coins can short-circuit.
  • Charge on a hard surface, in sight, and not overnight. Do not leave any lithium cells charging unattended.

Charging can be done in two ways. The mod has a USB-C port, so you can charge with the cells inside, but this is the slow route and is best seen as a top-up. An external two-bay or four-bay charger charges each cell independently, usually faster, and is gentler on the cells over their lifespan. If you vape heavily, buying a small external charger and a spare pair of cells is a worthwhile outlay.

For a UK buyer, there is one more consideration at the end of the battery's life. Lithium cells must not go in household waste or the general recycling bin. Take them to a battery recycling drop-off point, which many supermarkets, DIY stores and household waste recycling centres provide. Retailers that sell vape devices are also expected to provide a take-back route for old equipment, so keep the old mod and cells out of the bin.

The tank, Z-series mesh coils and UK capacity rules

The Aegis Legend 2 kit comes with a Geekvape sub-ohm tank that uses Z-series mesh coil heads. A mesh coil replaces the traditional spiral of wire with a flat or curved sheet of fine metal mesh. Because the mesh has a larger surface area in contact with the wick, it heats more evenly and tends to produce stronger, more consistent flavour than a round wire coil running at the same wattage. It also tends to ramp up faster, so you do not need to hold the fire button for long before you get proper vapour.

Typical coil guidance, which you should always check against the rating printed on the coil head you are actually fitting:

  • Around 0.4 ohm mesh: the usual starting coil. Best in roughly the 50 to 70W window, a flavour-first, balanced draw.
  • Lower-resistance mesh (around 0.2 ohm): designed for a higher wattage window, with bigger vapour and a warmer draw, at the cost of faster liquid use and shorter coil life.

Coil life depends on your wattage, your liquid and how well you prime the coil. As a rough guide, expect one to two weeks from a coil with moderate use. Sweet liquids and high VG percentages tend to shorten it, because sugars and sweeteners build up on the mesh. If your flavour goes flat or you notice a burnt taste, the coil is the first thing to replace.

UK tank capacity. Under UK rules, a tank sold for use with nicotine e-liquid is limited to 2ml. That is noticeably smaller than the 5ml and larger tanks you see on international versions of the same hardware. Check the product listing carefully: if a retailer is advertising a larger tank, it may be meant for use outside the UK, or sold as a separate accessory. A 2ml capacity is workable but it does mean frequent refills, particularly at higher wattages.

Refill liquids themselves are limited to 10ml bottles for nicotine e-liquids, with a maximum strength of 20mg/ml. If you want to use larger bottles, shortfill liquids at 50ml or 100ml are sold nicotine-free and you add nicotine shots to reach the strength you want.

Other tank features to look for are the top-fill mechanism, which makes refilling clean and quick without taking the tank off, and the adjustable airflow ring, which lets you tighten the draw for a more restricted feel or open it wide for a breezy, airy pull.

Colourways and the e-liquid flavours that work well with it

This is a hardware kit, so the 12 variants in the family are finishes rather than flavours. Pick the colourway you like; the performance is identical. What does shape your experience is the e-liquid you put into the tank, and a mesh-coil sub-ohm setup like this one is quite particular about what it likes.

The general rule is to use 50/50 or 60/40 VG/PG blends at lower wattage and 70/30 VG/PG at higher wattage. Very thick, 80% VG or higher liquids can struggle to wick through the small mesh holes at low power, which causes dry hits. If you are not sure, a 50/50 or 60/40 blend is the safe starting place, and it tends to carry the most flavour.

A few flavour styles that suit the setup:

  • Blue raspberry and other sharp fruits: bright and clean on a 0.4 ohm mesh at 50 to 60W.
  • Mango ice and tropical blends: the cooling agent comes through smoothly without turning harsh.
  • Strawberry cheesecake and other desserts: richer notes appear at slightly higher wattage, though expect faster coil wear.
  • Vanilla custard: a classic pairing with mesh coils, with plenty of body in the draw.
  • Cola and fizzy drinks: the extra surface area on mesh picks up the sweet-sharp balance well.
  • Mint and menthol: a cooler setting around 45 to 55W keeps the menthol crisp rather than burnt.
  • Tobacco blends: work best at moderate wattage, where they stay smooth and do not turn bitter.
  • Mixed berries: a dependable all-rounder if you cannot decide.

It is worth saying that a sub-ohm tank is less forgiving of poor liquid than a pod. Cheap, sweetener-heavy liquid can gum up a mesh coil quickly. If you find your coils lasting only a few days, try a less sweet profile or reduce the wattage slightly before blaming the hardware.

When you first fill the tank, let the coil soak for at least five to ten minutes before you fire it. Dry-firing a fresh mesh coil is the fastest way to ruin it, and priming it properly protects both flavour and coil life.

Nicotine strength: what to choose for a 200W sub-ohm kit

Nicotine choice matters more with a sub-ohm kit than almost any other part of the setup. A sub-ohm tank produces a large volume of vapour per puff, so a strength that feels fine in a small pod device can feel harsh, or overwhelming, in this kit. The simple rule is: the higher the power and the larger the draw, the lower the nicotine strength you want.

Sensible starting points for UK buyers:

  • 0mg: for people who no longer need nicotine or who are on the way out. Most shortfills ship at 0mg.
  • 3mg/ml: the most common choice for dedicated sub-ohm vapers who have been vaping for a while and are using the kit at 50W and above.
  • 6mg/ml: suitable for ex-smokers who still want a clearer nicotine hit at moderate wattage, often in a 40 to 55W window.
  • 9 to 12mg/ml: only if you are stepping down from a strong pod or from smoking and you are running the kit at lower wattage with a less restricted draw. Expect a noticeable throat hit.

Nicotine salt liquids at 10 or 20mg/ml are designed for low-power pods and restricted-draw devices. Their smooth throat hit comes from a different formulation, and using them in a 60W sub-ohm tank delivers a lot of nicotine very quickly. We do not recommend them for this kit. If you want salts, choose a pod kit; if you want a sub-ohm kit, choose freebase.

The UK limit. The maximum nicotine strength for any e-liquid sold in the UK is 20mg/ml, and refill bottles are limited to 10ml. This cap applies to all e-liquids with nicotine, not only to disposables. You will not find a legitimate UK retailer selling higher-strength liquid, and any listing that claims otherwise should be treated with caution.

If you are switching from cigarettes, it often helps to start at a moderate strength and move down once you feel settled, instead of starting too low and finding yourself vaping constantly to compensate. Vaping more often at lower strength can leave you taking in as much nicotine as a smaller number of puffs at a higher strength, and uses far more e-liquid. If you are unsure, the NHS stop smoking services offer free advice on choosing strengths.

Chipset, modes and day-to-day controls

The Aegis Legend 2 uses Geekvape's own AS chipset, which handles output control and the safety protections. You do not need to understand the internals, but it is worth knowing what the mod will and will not let you do.

The modes you can expect to find:

  • Power (variable wattage) mode: you choose the wattage and the mod regulates it. This is the mode most people use all the time.
  • Temperature control (TC) modes: for use with compatible coil materials such as stainless steel, nickel or titanium. These modes cap the coil temperature, which helps protect against dry hits. Mesh coils from the Z series are normally used in power mode, so TC will matter only if you buy a compatible rebuildable or wire-based tank later.
  • Bypass mode: the mod behaves like a simple battery, passing the voltage straight to the coil. Few people need it, and it carries more risk if you do not understand your cells and coil.

Typical protections include short-circuit protection, low-resistance and high-resistance warnings, over-temperature cut-off, reverse-polarity protection for the cells and a limit on puff duration. These protections are the reason a mod like this is safer than a bare unregulated device. They do not replace sensible cell handling, but they do catch common mistakes.

Day-to-day, the controls are straightforward. The common actions are a rapid press of the fire button to lock or unlock the device, a press of the adjustment buttons to raise or lower the wattage, and a combined press to enter the menu. The first time you use the mod, we suggest reading the manual in the box to check the exact button combination for your firmware, since small differences between batches exist. Once you have set your wattage, you are unlikely to touch the settings again for weeks.

The screen shows the coil resistance, the set wattage, the voltage across the coil, a battery indicator and the puff count, so you can see at a glance whether anything has gone wrong. If it flashes a resistance warning, check that the tank is screwed in firmly and that the coil head is seated.

Who the Aegis Legend 2 suits, and who should skip it

No kit suits everybody, and the Aegis Legend 2 is a specific kind of product. Here is an honest breakdown of who tends to get on well with it.

It is a good fit if you:

  • Want a robust device that tolerates rain, dust and knocks, such as a tradesperson, outdoor worker, cyclist or walker.
  • Have used pod kits and want more flavour, bigger vapour and the chance to tune wattage and airflow.
  • Prefer a removable battery system, so you can carry spares and replace cells when they wear out.
  • Enjoy direct-to-lung vaping with low-nicotine liquids, 3mg or 6mg.
  • Want a single device that can be tuned from relaxed to powerful without buying a new one.

You may want to skip it if you:

  • Are brand new to vaping and trying to quit smoking. A simpler pod kit with a higher nicotine strength and a tighter draw is usually a gentler start, and the sub-ohm style can feel overwhelming.
  • Want something small enough to slip into a trouser pocket without noticing. This is a chunky mod, and a pod is far more discreet.
  • Do not want to buy and manage 18650 batteries and an external charger. The extra items and the safety habits are a real part of owning a mod.
  • Use high-strength nicotine salt liquids. The sub-ohm tank is not designed for them, and you would get far more nicotine per puff than you probably want.
  • Are an experienced builder who wants a rebuildable atomiser. This is a pre-built mesh coil system.

It is also not suitable for anyone under 18, and UK retailers, ourselves included, are required to verify age at or before delivery. If you do not currently smoke or vape, we do not recommend starting; nicotine is addictive, and vaping is intended as an alternative for adult smokers.

If you fall somewhere in the middle, a common route is to start on a lower-power setting of 40 to 50W with a 3mg or 6mg liquid, and adjust upward only if you feel you need more vapour. That keeps the experience closer to the gentler end while you get used to the kit.

How to set up and use the kit

Setting the kit up takes about ten minutes the first time. Follow these steps in order and you will avoid the most common beginner problems.

  • Check the contents. Look for the mod, the tank, the coil heads, a USB-C cable, spare seals and the manual. Rinse any loose parts if the instructions suggest it.
  • Insert the batteries. Open the battery hatch and insert two matched 18650 cells. Check the positive and negative markings in the compartment; the cells must face the right way. Close the hatch and make sure the seal is seated.
  • Fit a coil. Screw the coil head into the base of the tank until it is snug. Do not overtighten.
  • Prime the coil. Put a few drops of e-liquid directly into the coil's wicking holes, then fill the tank. Tank capacity in the UK is 2ml, so you will not need much.
  • Wait. Let the filled tank stand for five to ten minutes so the cotton fully saturates. This is the step most people skip, and it is the most common cause of a burnt first taste.
  • Attach the tank. Screw the tank onto the 510 connector. It should sit flush without forcing.
  • Switch on. Press the fire button rapidly to turn the mod on, then set the wattage in the range printed on the coil head. Start at the lower end.
  • Take a few gentle puffs. Take two or three short pulls at the lowest recommended wattage, then raise it in 2 to 5 watt steps until you find the flavour and warmth you like.

Keep the airflow ring set to a medium opening to begin with. Opening it fully lets in more air and cools the vapour; closing it down concentrates flavour and warmth.

To switch the device off, press the fire button rapidly. Lock it when it is in a bag or pocket so it cannot fire by accident. Do not carry loose cells or the mod with an exposed battery in a bag with metal objects.

For daily care, wipe the 510 connector and the tank base with a dry cloth, keep the battery hatch seal clean, and replace the coil when the flavour drops. Refill before the tank runs low, since running a mesh coil nearly empty is the easiest way to cause dry hits and shorten its life.

Troubleshooting common problems

Most problems with a mod and tank setup are simple to fix. Here are the issues we see most often and how to deal with them.

  • The screen shows a resistance error or no atomiser message. Unscrew the tank and screw it back in, making sure the coil head is tightened into the base. Wipe the 510 pin and the base with a dry cloth. If the problem continues, try a different coil head to see whether the first one is faulty.
  • A burnt or acrid taste. This usually means the coil was not primed, the tank ran low, or the wattage is too high for the coil. Replace the coil if the taste persists. Lower the wattage and take shorter puffs.
  • Dry hits or gurgling. The liquid may be too thick for the coil, or the coil may not be saturated. Try a lower VG blend, give the coil more soak time, and make sure the airflow ring is not partly blocked.
  • Leaking from the tank or airflow slots. Check that the coil is tightened and the seals are seated. Do not overfill. Store the tank upright. Pressure changes in a bag or on a flight can also push liquid out, so keep the tank empty when travelling.
  • The mod will not turn on. Check the cells are inserted the right way and are charged. If the cells are low, swap them for charged ones. A very deeply discharged cell may not be recoverable, and should be recycled and replaced.
  • The battery drains faster than expected. Older cells lose capacity. A wattage above 80W also drains a pair of cells quickly. Try lowering the output or fitting fresh, higher-capacity cells.
  • The mod gets warm while charging. A little warmth is normal, but if it feels hot, unplug it and remove the cells. Charge them in an external charger instead.
  • Water has got inside. The IP67 rating covers brief immersion with the hatch properly sealed. If you notice moisture, remove the cells, dry the compartment thoroughly and let it air dry before using it again.

If something looks wrong with a battery, such as swelling, hissing, unusual heat or a smell, stop using it at once, put it somewhere non-flammable away from other objects, and take it to a recycling point once it is cool. Do not try to repair a damaged cell.

For anything that you cannot solve at home, contact us with your order number and a short description or photo of the fault, and we will help you work out whether it needs a replacement part or a warranty claim.

Value for money and how it compares with rival kits

The Aegis Legend 2 sits in the mid to upper price band for a starter kit, and its value depends on how you use it. A pod kit is cheaper up front, but a mod kit with removable cells can last several years, since you replace the coils and the batteries rather than the whole device. The running costs are coil heads, e-liquid and an occasional new pair of 18650 cells. Because the batteries are not included, budget for a good pair and ideally a spare set and an external charger, which together can add a meaningful amount to the first purchase.

Here is how it stacks up against other kits that shoppers commonly compare it with. These are fair comparisons, not a ranking, and prices and specifications change, so check current listings.

  • Vaporesso GEN 200: a dual-18650 mod with a slightly higher headline output and a broad coil range. It is a strong choice for wattage and coil variety. The Aegis Legend 2's advantage is its rugged IP67 build; the Vaporesso is more focused on features and styling than on weather resistance.
  • Voopoo Drag series (such as the Drag X or Drag 3): Voopoo's Drag mods are well regarded for their chipset and their pod-style tanks with fast-swapping coils. They are generally lighter on durability claims than the Aegis range, but easy to use and widely stocked.
  • Geekvape Aegis Solo 2 (S100): the single-battery sibling. It is smaller, lighter and cheaper to run, with a 100W ceiling. If you rarely go above 60W, the Solo 2 is the more portable choice, while the Legend 2 gives you more runtime and headroom.
  • Smok Mag series: a long-running dual-battery family with broad coil compatibility. It is competitive on price, though the Aegis Legend 2 is generally stronger on build quality and water resistance.

Our honest view: if durability matters to you, the Aegis Legend 2 is one of the most sensible options in the class. If you want the smallest possible device, or a high nicotine strength, a pod system is a better match. If you simply want the widest choice of coils and the highest output on the box, a rival mod may be worth a look.

One last consideration for value is e-liquid. Sub-ohm vaping uses much more liquid than pods, often several millilitres a day for regular users. That is why a lot of experienced vapers buy 50ml shortfills with nicotine shots, which works out cheaper per millilitre than 10ml bottles. It is worth factoring into your monthly budget before you decide.

Frequently asked questions

What nicotine strength should I use with the Aegis Legend 2?

For a sub-ohm kit like this one, most people use 3mg/ml or 6mg/ml freebase nicotine, and some ex-smokers go up to 9 or 12mg/ml at lower wattage. Nicotine salts at 10 or 20mg/ml are designed for pods and are too strong for a 60W sub-ohm tank. The UK legal limit for any e-liquid is 20mg/ml.

Are batteries included, and how do I charge it?

No, the kit does not include batteries. You need two matched, high-drain 18650 cells with a continuous rating of at least 20A. You can top up through the USB-C port, but an external charger is faster and gentler on the cells. Never charge unattended, and recycle old cells at a battery drop-off point.

Do the 12 variants differ apart from colour?

No. The twelve listings in this family are colourways of the same Aegis Legend 2 200W kit, so the chipset, battery system, build and tank are the same. Pick the finish you prefer. Darker and textured finishes hide wear better, which matters if you use the mod outdoors.

How long will a charge and a coil last?

With a pair of 3000mAh cells at around 60W, expect roughly 300 to 400 puffs per charge, which is a day of moderate use for many people. A mesh coil typically lasts one to two weeks with regular vaping. Sweet liquids, high wattage and poor priming will shorten coil life.

Is it good value compared with a pod kit or a rival mod?

It costs more up front than a pod kit and the batteries are extra, but the running costs are modest because you replace coils and cells rather than the whole device. Against rivals like the Vaporesso GEN 200 or Voopoo Drag, its main advantage is durability and the IP67 rating.

Who should buy it, and who should avoid it?

It suits adult vapers who want a rugged, tuneable device and are comfortable managing 18650 cells. It is less suitable for complete beginners who need a simple start, anyone wanting a pocket-sized device, or users of high-strength nicotine salts. It is not for under-18s or people who do not already smoke or vape.

Why is the tank only 2ml?

Under UK rules, tanks used with nicotine e-liquid are limited to 2ml, and refill bottles are limited to 10ml. Larger tanks on international versions of the same kit are not for UK sale in that form. You will refill often at higher wattage, so keep a bottle with you when you are out.

Do you deliver across the UK, and is age verification needed?

We deliver within the UK, and delivery options and estimated times are shown at checkout. You must be 18 or over to buy, and we may carry out an age check before dispatch or at delivery. Delivery outside the UK is not offered for this product.

What is covered by the warranty, and what about returns?

Faulty goods are covered by your statutory rights under UK consumer law, and Geekvape devices generally carry a manufacturer warranty that covers manufacturing defects but not damage from misuse, wrong batteries or wear items such as coils. Contact us with your order number and photos of the fault. Opened e-liquid and used coils cannot normally be returned for hygiene reasons.

Fairly priced for what you get

Really nice flavour — not too sweet, not too harsh. Perfect in the middle. Second order already placed.
