Nautilus 3SR Glass Tube by Aspire: what it is and why it matters

The Nautilus 3SR Glass Tube by Aspire is a spare glass section for the Nautilus 3 family of sub-ohm-style and restricted-lung tanks. It is not a kit, a coil or a device in its own right. It is the clear cylinder that holds your e-liquid and sits between the top cap and the base of the tank. If you already own a Nautilus 3 tank and the glass has cracked, clouded over or gone missing, this is the part that gets the tank working again without paying for a whole new unit.

That sounds like a small thing, but the glass is the part of a tank that takes the most abuse. It gets dropped from pocket height, knocked on desks, squeezed in bag compartments and scrubbed with whatever cleaning method happens to be nearby. Over a year of daily use it is the component most likely to need replacing before the tank itself wears out. Having a spare tube in a drawer is the cheapest way to keep a favourite setup running.

Aspire has built a reputation over many years for tanks that are straightforward to strip, refill and maintain, and the Nautilus line is the best-known example of that approach. The 3SR tube follows the same philosophy. It is a plain, functional replacement with no gimmicks, designed so the tank seals properly and you can see how much e-liquid you have left at a glance.

This page is written for UK vapers who want a clear idea of what they are buying, how it fits, how it affects performance and what it costs to keep a tank in good order over time. We cover compatibility, capacity, how the glass influences flavour, build quality, power pairing, coil choice, nicotine strength, fitting and troubleshooting, and we compare the option of replacing the tube with the alternative of buying a new tank.

  • Product type: replacement glass tube (accessory)
  • Brand: Aspire
  • Intended for: Nautilus 3 series tanks
  • Variants: three options in this product family
  • Typical job: replacing cracked, scratched or lost glass

One honest note up front: because this is a spare part, the most important question is not whether it is good but whether it is the right one for your tank. We spend a good share of this guide on helping you answer that before you order.

Compatibility and fit: matching the tube to your tank

Glass tubes are not universal. The diameter, the height and the way the ends seat against the O-rings all have to match the tank they are going into. The 3SR tube is made for the Nautilus 3 series, which uses a 22mm-class body. Fitting it to a different Aspire tank, or to a tank from another brand, can leave gaps at the seals and lead to leaks or a loose, wobbly assembly.

Before you order, check these three things:

  • Your tank model. Look at the base of the tank or the original box. It should say Nautilus 3 or a close variant. If you own a Nautilus Mini, Nautilus X, Nautilus GT or a Nautilus 2S, those use different glass and this tube will not suit them.
  • Your capacity version. Nautilus tanks have been sold in larger and smaller capacity versions. In the UK the retail limit for a refillable tank is 2ml, so a lot of tanks sold here are the smaller capacity build. A taller tube is not a drop-in swap for a shorter one, because the tank internals and the top cap are sized to a specific length.
  • Your finish. The three variants in this family may differ in length or in how the tube is supplied. Pick the one that matches the capacity printed on your existing tank, not the one that simply looks fullest.

If you are unsure, measure. Unscrew the top cap and base, slide out the old glass and compare its length against the listing. A mismatch of even a millimetre or two is enough to stop the cap threading down firmly. Glass tubes cannot be trimmed or adjusted, so it is better to check twice than to order twice.

It is also worth checking the condition of the other parts while the tank is apart. Silicone O-rings flatten, harden and crack over months of use. If the rings are tired, a brand new glass tube will still leak because the seal, not the glass, is the weak point. Many people replace the glass and the rings together so the tank starts from a clean baseline. Check the pack contents on the listing so you know whether spare rings are supplied or whether you should pick some up separately.

Finally, remember that a glass tube carries no coil, no airflow ring and no drip tip. Everything else on your tank stays as it is. That is part of the appeal: you keep the coil head you have already broken in and the airflow setting you like, and you only change the clear section.

Capacity and e-liquid delivery: how the tube shapes performance

With a spare glass tube, the performance question is really a capacity and flow question. The tube defines how much e-liquid the tank holds, how far the liquid has to travel to reach the coil and how the liquid column behaves as you vape. You are not getting a different coil or a different airflow design, so the output of the tank should match what you had before the glass failed.

The Nautilus 3 design uses a top-fill system. You slide the top cap aside, fill the tube down the side of the central chimney and close the cap again. The glass tube is the reservoir wall, so its inner volume is what you actually have available. On the smaller capacity builds common in the UK this is 2ml, and on larger builds sold elsewhere it is around 4ml. Either way, the tube is cut to a fixed length so that the capacity is accurate when the liquid reaches the fill line.

In practical terms, a 2ml tank gives you a short session between refills. Vapers who use a restricted lung style with a moderate nicotine strength typically get several hours of light use or a handful of heavier sessions from one fill, but the number varies a lot with how often you vape, your wattage and your coil resistance. We would rather give you a sensible range than a made-up puff count. As a rough guide, a 2ml fill at moderate wattage tends to last somewhere in the region of a few hundred puffs, and a larger tank scales that up proportionally.

A few things in the glass affect delivery directly:

  • Consistent wall thickness. Uneven glass can sit slightly out of true against the O-rings, which invites air leaks and gurgling.
  • Clean, flat end faces. The ends of the tube must sit flat against the seals. Chips on the rim are a common source of slow seepage.
  • Correct height. If the tube is a fraction too short, the tank can feel loose and air can be pulled in from the wrong place, which disrupts the vacuum that keeps liquid from flooding the coil.

Because the tank relies on a gentle vacuum to meter liquid to the coil, a well-seated tube is what lets the system work as designed. When the glass fits properly, you should see steady, even liquid levels, a consistent draw and no bubbling in the reservoir when you inhale. That is the baseline result you should expect after fitting the 3SR tube to a compatible tank.

Flavour profile: does the glass change the taste?

A glass tube does not produce flavour, but it does influence how clean and consistent the flavour is. The coil and the e-liquid do the heavy lifting. The glass simply needs to stay neutral, seal well and not hold on to previous flavours. This is one area where glass has a real advantage over plastic tank sections.

Plastic and polycarbonate can absorb colours and aromas, particularly from heavily flavoured or dark e-liquids such as tobacco blends, custards and some dessert profiles. Over time you may notice a faint ghost of an old flavour in a new fill. Glass does not absorb in this way. When you clean a glass tube thoroughly, you are starting again with a neutral container, which is useful if you switch between very different flavours, for example moving from a fruit ice to a creamy tobacco.

What matters for flavour in practice:

  • Cleanliness. Residue from sweeteners and flavouring builds up on the inside wall. A rinse in warm water with a drop of washing-up liquid, followed by a thorough rinse and full drying, removes it.
  • Seal quality. If air leaks into the tank, the draw becomes airy and the flavour thins out. A good seat for the glass helps keep the airflow where the tank intends it to be.
  • Coil condition. A tired coil makes any flavour taste flat or burnt. If you have just replaced the glass but the coil is several weeks old, consider changing it too so you can judge the tank fairly.

The Nautilus 3 line has traditionally suited fruit, menthol and tobacco liquids at modest wattage, giving a fairly rounded and moderately warm vape rather than a cold, sharp one. The glass tube does not change that character. If you were happy with the tank before the glass broke, a correctly fitted replacement should bring back the same flavour you were used to.

One small tip is to season the tube before the first fill. Wash it, dry it completely and let it sit for a few minutes. Then fill with your usual liquid and leave the tank to saturate the coil for several minutes before taking the first puff. That patience protects the coil and lets the flavour show properly from the first draw.

Design and build quality

The 3SR tube is a plain cylinder of clear, heat-resistant glass cut to a precise length. There is nothing decorative about it, and that is the point. A good replacement tube disappears into the tank. You want to see the liquid level, not the tube.

Here is what to look for when it arrives and what to expect from the part:

  • Clarity. The glass should be clear and free from bubbles, haze or visible distortions. Small surface marks from handling are normal, but internal flaws are not.
  • Edges. Both rims should be smooth and flat, with no chips or sharp flakes. Run a fingertip lightly around each end to check.
  • Fit. The tube should slide into the seats with a snug feel but without force. If you have to push hard, stop and check that you have the right size.
  • Weight and feel. Glass feels more solid than plastic. That weight is reassuring in the hand, but it also means a drop onto a hard floor can crack it, which is why spares are worth owning.

On the tank itself, Aspire typically uses stainless steel for the top cap, base and chimney sections, with silicone seals and a threaded coil seat. The glass sandwiched between those parts is the only fragile piece. The usual way people break it is by overtightening the base and cap, by dropping the tank, or by knocking it against another hard object in a bag.

It is worth being straightforward about the limits of glass. It is rigid and brittle compared with plastic. A drop that a polycarbonate tube would shrug off can crack or shatter glass. If you carry your tank loose in a pocket with keys or a lighter, you will probably be replacing it again. A small hard case or a soft pouch costs very little and reduces breakage considerably.

Aspire has made glass replacement a normal part of owning a Nautilus because the tank is designed to come apart without tools. That design choice is what makes a spare tube a sensible purchase rather than a sign that something is wrong. Expect the glass to last many months with careful handling, but expect it to be the first thing to fail if you are rough with the tank.

Battery and power pairing: choosing the right device

A glass tube has no battery of its own, so this section is about what the tank you are repairing should be paired with. Getting the pairing right protects the coil, the glass and your e-liquid supply, and it makes the tank behave the way it was designed to.

Nautilus 3 tanks are built around 22mm-class bodies, so they sit neatly on a wide range of mod and pen-style batteries with a 510 connection. They are most at home on compact variable-wattage devices rather than large box mods. As a rough guide, the mesh coil typically wants a modest wattage in the low-to-mid range, and the exact window is printed on the side of the coil. Always follow the range marked on your coil rather than relying on a general figure.

  • Battery capacity. A device with a battery in the region of 1,000 to 2,000mAh is a comfortable match. It gives a full day of moderate use from one charge without feeling bulky.
  • Output range. Variable wattage lets you start low and work up. A fixed-output device can work, but you give up fine tuning.
  • Connection. The tank uses a standard 510 thread. Check that the centre pin of the device is not sunk too deep, which can stop the base seating properly.

Charging is done on the device, not on the tank. Use the cable that came with the battery and a standard USB port or a plug from a reputable brand. Avoid cheap unbranded chargers, and do not leave a device charging unattended overnight. If the battery gets hot, swells or smells unusual, stop using it. When a rechargeable battery reaches the end of its life, it should not go in the household bin. Take it to a battery recycling drop-off point, which many UK supermarkets and household recycling centres provide.

The glass tube itself is indifferent to the battery behind it, but there is one link worth knowing. Running a coil far above its recommended wattage heats the liquid and the metal parts more than they are meant to handle. That can cause leaks past the seals and it stresses the glass. Staying within the printed range is the simplest way to keep the whole tank, glass included, in good order.

Coil and mesh considerations

Because the glass tube lives in the same assembly as the coil, it helps to understand what the coil does and how to choose one. The Nautilus 3 range is commonly sold with a mesh coil, plus a second resistance option in some kits. Mesh coils use a thin sheet of woven metal instead of a round wire, which spreads the heat over a larger surface and tends to improve flavour consistency and vapour output at a given wattage.

For a Nautilus 3 style tank the typical choices are:

  • A lower-resistance mesh coil, in the region of 0.7 ohm, which gives a warmer, fuller draw and suits a restricted direct-to-lung style with a moderate-strength liquid.
  • A higher-resistance coil, around 1.8 ohm in the Nautilus family, which runs at lower wattage and gives a tighter draw that is closer to a mouth-to-lung experience. It generally pairs better with higher nicotine strengths.

The exact resistances and wattages for your coil are printed on the coil itself, and those figures take priority over anything general we say here. What we can say is that matching the coil to your nicotine strength and your draw preference matters more than any other tuning decision.

Coil life depends on your habits. Sweet liquids, dessert flavours and high-VG blends tend to gunk up a coil faster than thin tobacco or menthol blends. A coil in daily use will often last somewhere between one and three weeks before the flavour starts to dull. Signs that it is time to change include a burnt taste, a muffled flavour, a gurgling draw or a visibly dark, crusty coil head.

When you replace the glass, take the opportunity to check the coil. Unscrew it from the base, look at the underside and the contacts, and wipe away any residue. A new glass tube combined with an old coil gives you a tank that looks right but tastes wrong, and people sometimes blame the new part for something the coil has been doing for weeks.

Prime any new coil properly. Drip a little liquid into the coil's side holes, fill the tank, close the cap and wait at least five minutes before taking a puff. Skipping this step is the quickest way to kill a coil on its first use.

Nicotine strength guidance for the Nautilus 3 style tank

The glass tube does not decide your nicotine strength, but it is part of a tank that does depend on one. Choosing the right strength keeps the vape satisfying without being harsh. In the UK, e-liquid is limited to a maximum of 20mg/ml nicotine, which is the same ceiling that applies to pre-filled and previously disposable products. Single-use disposable vapes were banned from sale in Great Britain from 1 June 2025, so refillable systems like the Nautilus are now a main route for adult smokers who want to switch to vaping.

A general starting point, which you should adjust to your own experience:

  • Higher resistance coil with a tighter draw (around 1.8 ohm): nicotine salt liquids in the 10mg to 20mg range tend to work well. The draw is closer to a cigarette and the salt formulation keeps throat hit smooth.
  • Lower resistance mesh coil with a looser draw (around 0.7 ohm): freebase liquids in the 3mg to 6mg range are a common match, because the larger vapour volume delivers more nicotine per puff.
  • Former heavy smokers often begin at the upper end of these ranges and step down over time. Lighter or social smokers can usually start lower.

Too little nicotine leaves you chain-vaping and unsatisfied. Too much makes you feel dizzy, nauseous or sweaty, and it causes a harsh throat hit. If either happens, adjust the strength rather than the wattage.

Choose liquids made for sub-ohm or restricted-lung use if you are on the lower-resistance coil. These are usually higher in vegetable glycerin (VG) and flow well through mesh. Thinner, higher-PG liquids work better on higher-resistance coils and will not saturate as well in a mesh coil designed for thicker liquid, which can cause dry hits.

Vaping is intended for adults who already smoke or use nicotine. If you do not use nicotine, there is no health reason to start. If you are pregnant, have a heart condition or take regular medication, talk to your GP or a local stop smoking service before using nicotine products. Keep all e-liquid out of the reach of children and pets, and store it in its original child-resistant bottle.

Who this glass tube is for and who should skip it

A replacement glass tube is a niche buy, and it is honest to say who benefits from it and who does not.

It suits you if:

  • You already own a Nautilus 3 series tank and the glass is cracked, chipped or cloudy.
  • You want a spare on hand so a drop does not end your day or leave you without a working tank.
  • You like your current coil and airflow setup and do not want to buy and break in a new tank.
  • You prefer to repair and maintain gear rather than throw it away, which also helps reduce electronic and plastic waste.
  • You want a clean, neutral reservoir that does not stain or hold flavours the way some plastic sections can.

You should probably skip it if:

  • You do not own a compatible Nautilus tank, or you are unsure which model you have. Check first, because glass cannot be returned as unused if it has been fitted.
  • Your tank has other problems such as a stripped thread, a bent chimney or a warped base. A new glass tube will not fix those, and it may be more sensible to replace the whole tank.
  • You are a first-time vaper looking for a complete starter. A tube alone does nothing without a tank, coil and battery. A kit would be a better start.
  • You are rough on your gear and tend to drop it. A less brittle section, or a protective case, may suit you better.

It is also a practical option for those who maintain several tanks. People who keep one tank filled with a tobacco liquid, one with a fruit and one with a menthol will sometimes keep a spare tube so a break does not take one flavour out of rotation.

Finally, it is a sensible option for adults who are switching from smoking and have found a tank that works. Changing too many variables at once, such as device, tank, coil and liquid, can make switching harder. Keeping the setup you know working, even after an accident, helps you stay on track. If you are new to vaping and need advice, a local stop smoking service can offer free guidance and support.

How to fit and use the glass tube

Fitting a glass tube takes a few minutes and needs no tools. Take your time, work over a soft surface such as a towel, and treat the glass gently. The steps below match the usual Nautilus 3 construction. If your tank came with its own instructions, they take priority.

  • 1. Empty the tank. Pour out any remaining liquid into a container or onto tissue. Do not vape the last drops, which can burn the coil.
  • 2. Remove the base. Unscrew the base assembly from the tank. This usually brings the coil with it. Set the coil and base to one side.
  • 3. Open the top. Slide the top cap open to expose the fill port and lift off the top assembly. Take care when sliding the old glass out, especially if it is already cracked.
  • 4. Inspect the seals. Check the silicone rings at both ends. Replace any that look flat, cracked, stretched or hard.
  • 5. Clean the metal parts. Rinse the top cap and base in warm water, dry them fully and wipe any residue from the threads.
  • 6. Seat the new tube. Place the 3SR tube between the top and bottom assemblies, making sure it sits flat in both seals.
  • 7. Reassemble gently. Thread the base on until it is snug, then stop. Overtightening is the most common cause of cracked glass.
  • 8. Prime and fill. Install or re-seat the coil, fill the tank with the cap slid open, close it and wait several minutes before the first puff.

When you use the tank, keep an eye on the liquid level through the glass. Refill before it falls below the coil's side holes. Vaping a dry tank is the fastest way to burn a coil, and a burnt coil makes any liquid taste unpleasant.

For maintenance, clean the tube every time you change liquid or coil. Rinse it in warm water, add a small drop of washing-up liquid if there is residue, then rinse again and let it air dry fully. Do not use boiling water or put glass in a dishwasher, as thermal shock can crack it. Never use abrasive pads, which can scratch the inside surface and trap residue.

If you ever break a tube, be careful with the fragments. Wrap them in paper or a thick cloth and dispose of them in your household glass waste only when they are safely contained. Avoid putting loose shards into a recycling bag where they could injure someone.

Troubleshooting leaks, cracks and gurgling

Most problems after a glass swap come down to seals, seating or the coil. Work through the checklist below before assuming the new part is faulty.

  • The tank leaks from the base. Check that the glass is sitting flat in both seals, that the O-rings are in good condition and that the base is tight but not overtightened. If the leak continues, change the O-rings or the coil.
  • The tank floods the drip tip. This usually points to the coil seal or a loose base. Let the tank settle upright, wipe the drip tip, and re-seat the coil. Also check that you did not overfill past the line.
  • Gurgling or spitting. The coil is probably saturated or flooded. Take a few gentle puffs without firing, then wipe away excess liquid. A cleaned airflow ring and a drier tank often sort this out.
  • Weak vapour or muted flavour. Look at the coil first. If it is more than a couple of weeks old, replace it. Also confirm that the airflow slots are not partly closed.
  • Burnt taste. Stop vaping and check the liquid level. If the coil is dry or visibly black, swap it. Prime the new one thoroughly.
  • The glass will not seat. Do not force it. Compare it with your old tube. If it is clearly too long or too short, you may have ordered the wrong capacity variant.
  • A crack appears after a few uses. This normally comes from overtightening, a knock or a sudden temperature change, such as taking the tank from a cold car into a warm room and firing straight away. Let it adjust to room temperature first.

If something still looks wrong, stop using the tank. A cracked tube can leak liquid into the device, and e-liquid leaking into a battery connection can cause shorting or damage. Wipe the 510 connection, let everything dry and check that the device works properly before using it again.

For liquid that gets on your skin, wash it off with soap and water. If it gets in your eyes, rinse with plenty of clean water and seek medical advice if irritation continues. Nicotine liquids can be harmful if swallowed, so keep all spare parts and liquids stored away from children and pets.

Many of these issues are avoidable with routine care: clean the tank regularly, replace O-rings when they age, change coils on a schedule and handle the glass gently. A tank that is looked after will give you far fewer problems than one that is run until it fails.

Value for money: replace the glass or buy a new tank?

The value argument for a spare glass tube is simple. A replacement tube typically costs a fraction of a complete tank, and it keeps a working setup alive. If the rest of your Nautilus tank is in good condition, replacing only the glass is almost always the cheaper choice. You also avoid breaking in a new coil, which saves a small amount on top.

It does not always make sense, though. Consider these scenarios:

  • The tank is otherwise healthy. Replace the glass. The cost is low and you keep your airflow and coil settings.
  • The tank has been dropped hard. Inspect the threads and the base. If these are damaged, a new tank may be better value than a new tube.
  • You want to upgrade. If you are already thinking about a newer tank with a larger coil range or different airflow, a broken tube is a reasonable moment to make the switch.
  • You break glass often. Buying two or three spares at once, or adding a protective case, can cost less in the long run than repeated single orders.

Compared with disposables, the economics of a refillable setup are favourable. A single-use device is thrown away after a short life, while a Nautilus tank with a fresh glass tube can run for a long time with only coils and liquid as ongoing costs. Because single-use disposables have been banned in Great Britain since June 2025, refillable systems like this are also the legal and sustainable route for most vapers who want a flavour-rich experience.

On the wider comparison with other tank makers, a few points are fair to make. Some competitors sell tanks with polycarbonate or Pyrex sections that cost a similar amount per part. Plastic sections are more drop-resistant but can stain and absorb flavours, while glass is clearer and stays neutral. Some other brands also sell replacement glass in larger multi-packs at lower unit prices, but those are often specific to their own tank ranges. Within the Aspire range, using genuine Aspire glass means a known fit and consistent dimensions, which is the main advantage over generic or unbranded alternatives.

For recycling, tank components and batteries can be taken to household waste recycling centres or to retailers who accept small electricals and batteries. Do not put vape devices, batteries or nicotine liquids in your general waste. Broken glass should be wrapped and placed in your household glass or general waste according to your local council's rules.

Overall, if you own a compatible Nautilus 3 tank, the 3SR glass tube is a low-cost, sensible way to extend its life.

Frequently asked questions

Which nicotine strength should I use in a Nautilus 3 tank fitted with this glass tube?

The glass does not change your nicotine requirements, but your coil does. With a higher-resistance coil of around 1.8 ohm, nicotine salt liquids between 10mg and 20mg are common. With a lower-resistance mesh coil of around 0.7 ohm, freebase liquids between 3mg and 6mg are usual. UK e-liquid is capped at 20mg/ml, so you will not find anything stronger legally.

How do I charge it?

The glass tube has no battery, so nothing needs charging. You charge the device the tank sits on, using the cable supplied with it and a standard USB port or a reputable plug. Do not leave a battery charging unattended overnight, and recycle old batteries at a drop-off point rather than putting them in household waste.

There are three variants in this family. How do I choose the right one?

Match the variant to your existing tank rather than choosing by appearance. Check the capacity marked on your tank or its box, then compare the length of your old glass with the listing. The UK retail limit for refillable tanks is 2ml, so many tanks sold here use the shorter build, and a longer tube will not seat properly on those.

How long will the glass tube last?

With careful handling it can last many months or longer, because glass does not wear out from use. The usual causes of failure are drops, knocks, overtightening the base and sudden temperature changes. A small case or pouch for carrying the tank reduces breakage significantly.

Is it better value to replace the glass or buy a whole new tank?

If the rest of the tank is in good shape, replacing only the glass is normally cheaper and lets you keep your current coil and settings. If the threads, base or chimney are damaged, or you want to move to a newer tank anyway, a full replacement may make more sense.

Who should and should not buy this?

It is for people who already own a compatible Nautilus 3 series tank and need to replace broken or cloudy glass. It is not suitable if you have a different tank model, if you are looking for a complete starter kit, or if you are new to vaping and do not yet own a battery, tank and coil. Vaping is for adults who smoke or already use nicotine.

Does it fit other Aspire tanks such as the Nautilus Mini or Nautilus X?

No. It is made for the Nautilus 3 series, and other Nautilus models use different glass dimensions. Using the wrong size can leave gaps in the seals and cause leaks, so check your tank model before ordering.

Do you deliver across the UK, and how fast?

We ship to UK addresses using tracked services. Delivery options, cut-off times and costs are shown at checkout and on our delivery information page, and they can change, so please check there for the current details. Orders are for adults aged 18 and over.

What about warranty and returns?

If the tube arrives damaged or faulty, contact us promptly with your order number and a photo and we will arrange a replacement or refund under our returns policy. Breakage caused by drops, overtightening or misuse is not normally covered, and for hygiene reasons a tube that has been fitted and used generally cannot be returned. Please read the returns page for the full terms.

How do I clean the glass tube without damaging it?

Rinse it in warm, not boiling, water with a small drop of washing-up liquid, rinse again and let it air dry completely. Avoid dishwashers, abrasive pads and sudden temperature changes, all of which can scratch or crack the glass. Clean it whenever you change liquid or coil to keep flavours clear.
