Aspire Zelos X Kit: What the £39.99 Price Covers

The Aspire Zelos X Kit is a rechargeable, refillable vape device, priced at £39.99 on this page, and it is built for adults who would rather choose their own e-liquid than buy a sealed bar and bin it a few days later. It sits in our vape kits range as a starter set, which tells you the intended buyer: someone setting up a refillable system, not someone who already owns a drawer full of tanks and mods.

Before anything else, one point deserves plain wording. This is hardware. The listing shows a nicotine strength of 0mg because no e-liquid is supplied with the kit, so the strength you vape depends entirely on the bottle you buy separately. Order the kit on its own and you will own a device with nothing to vaporise. Treat the purchase as two items: the Zelos X, and a bottle of liquid that suits it.

Price is the first thing that sets it apart. Most of the Aspire kits on our shelves cost somewhere between £11 and £20, and the Zelos X is the most expensive Aspire kit we currently list. Whether that premium is worth paying depends on what you want from a device, and the sections below are written to help you decide. They cover how a refillable kit works, who benefits from one, how to choose a liquid and a strength, how to set the device up, and what to do when something misbehaves.

Eight finishes are available: Aqua Blue, Black, Blue, Full Black, Gunmetal, Pink, Red and Silver. All of them share the same listing price, so the choice is purely about looks and taste in colour.

A word on specifications. We only quote figures that are confirmed for this listing, which is why you will not find a battery capacity, wattage or coil value stated here that we cannot back up. The leaflet in the box is the authority on the technical detail of your particular unit, and we point you back to it wherever it matters.

This guide is written for adult smokers and existing vapers. If you do not currently use nicotine, a refillable kit is not something you need.

How a Refillable Kit Like This Actually Works

Strip away the styling and every refillable kit does the same three jobs. It stores power, it holds liquid, and it turns the two into vapour when you ask it to. Knowing which part does what makes the Zelos X far less mysterious, and it makes fault-finding much quicker later on.

The battery is the rechargeable cell inside the body, and it is the only part that connects to a charging cable. The tank or pod is the reservoir for your e-liquid, and it is the part you refill. Inside that reservoir sits the coil, a small heating element in contact with a wick, usually cotton. Liquid soaks into the wick by capillary action. When power reaches the coil it heats that wet wick, the liquid turns to vapour, and the vapour travels up through the mouthpiece. That is the entire process, and it is the same whether the device is a slim pod style or a chunkier tank style.

What differs between devices is how the power is triggered and controlled. Some kits fire when you draw on the mouthpiece, others when you press a button, and a few offer both. Some deliver one fixed output and others let you adjust it. The Zelos X listing on this site does not spell out these details, so we will not guess. The leaflet states which method your unit uses, and the activation is usually obvious within the first minute of handling it.

Airflow is the other variable worth understanding. Air enters through a channel, passes over the coil and carries the vapour to your mouth. A tighter airflow gives a restricted, closer-to-a-cigarette draw, while a more open one gives a cooler, airier pull and a bigger cloud. If your kit has an airflow ring or slider, expect to spend a day or two finding the setting that feels right and then leaving it alone.

Finally, the coil is a consumable. It is a tiny heater sitting in constant contact with sweetened liquid, so it wears out. That is why refillable systems carry running costs beyond the liquid itself, a point covered properly in the upkeep section below. The useful takeaway for now is that a refillable kit trades the convenience of a disposable for more control, usually a lower cost per millilitre of liquid, and noticeably less waste.

Reading the 0mg Label: Device Only, No Liquid

Look at the strength option on this page and you will see 0mg. New buyers sometimes read that as a description of the kit, as though it were a nicotine-free vape. It is not. The figure is there because the product is hardware, and hardware contains no nicotine at all. The strength you end up vaping is set by the e-liquid you pour in, and by nothing else.

That has a practical upside. Because the device itself is neutral, you can use it however suits you at the time. An adult who smokes may choose a nicotine e-liquid at a strength that fits their habit. Someone else may prefer to fill it with nicotine-free e-liquid because they enjoy the flavour and the routine and do not want nicotine. Both are legitimate uses of the same hardware, and the kit does not care which you pick.

It also has a downside that catches people out, so here is a short checklist of things not to expect:

  • A prefilled pod. Nothing is sealed and ready to go.
  • A puff count. A refillable device does not have one, because the number of puffs depends on how much liquid you add, how often you draw and how hard you draw.
  • A sample bottle. Do not assume any liquid is included, even a small one.

If you want to vape on the day it arrives, put a bottle in the same basket as the kit.

What is in the box is a matter for the packaging and the leaflet. Kits of this type commonly include the device, a charging cable and a quick-start guide, and sometimes a spare coil or pod. We have not itemised the contents here because we would rather say nothing than state something wrong. When the parcel arrives, open it, lay everything out and read the leaflet before you fill anything. It is the one document written for the exact unit in your hand.

One more reason the label matters: even though the kit holds no nicotine itself, it is designed for use with nicotine liquid and is sold strictly to over-18s, with every order age-checked.

Who the Zelos X Suits and Who Should Skip It

Not every adult vaper wants a refillable kit, and it is better to say so early than to leave you with a device you resent. The Zelos X makes sense for a fairly specific kind of buyer.

It suits the adult who has been working through disposable vapes and has noticed how quickly the cost and the waste add up. It suits anyone who likes to choose flavours rather than accept whatever is printed on a bar, and the person who wants to swap between a fruit liquid on weekdays and a menthol one at weekends. It also suits people who like a little control, because a refillable system lets you change strength, thickness and flavour without changing hardware. And it suits anyone willing to spend five minutes a week on small chores such as refilling and wiping the mouthpiece.

You should probably skip it if you want a device you never have to think about. A refillable kit asks for a routine: fill, charge, replace the coil now and then, carry a bottle if you are away from home. If that sounds like a nuisance, a sealed system will serve you better. Closed pod kits use prefilled cartridges that click in and out, which removes the fill-and-spill step entirely, at the price of being tied to the flavours the maker offers.

It is also worth being honest about the budget angle. At £39.99 the Zelos X costs several times what a basic starter kit does. If you are unsure whether you will stick with vaping at all, a cheaper device is the gentler way to find out. If you already know you will use something daily, the higher outlay is easier to justify over a few months.

Finally, the non-negotiables. This product is for adults aged 18 and over who already use nicotine. Nicotine is addictive, and it is not suitable for non-smokers, under-18s, or anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding. We verify age on every order, and the process is explained on our age verification page.

Zelos X Against the Rest of the Aspire Range

Aspire has a long list of devices on our shelves, and putting the Zelos X in context helps you decide whether it is the right step. Here are some of the refillable kits at their current prices on this site:

  • Aspire Gotek X3 Pod Kit, £11.95
  • Aspire Gotek Nano Pod Kit, £11.99
  • Aspire Pixo Max Pod Kit, £18.95
  • Aspire Minican 3 Pro Kit, £19.99
  • Aspire Veynom EX Vape Kit, £19.99
  • Aspire Zelos M80 Mod, £32.95
  • Aspire Zelos X Kit, £39.99

The pattern is clear. The Zelos X is the premium end of the Aspire range, and it costs roughly three times as much as the entry-level Gotek kits. The Zelos M80 is listed as a mod, which is a different style of product, and it comes in at a lower price than the Zelos X.

Price alone does not tell you capability, and we are not going to rank these devices on specifications we have not confirmed. What price does tell you is the maker's positioning. Aspire clearly intends the Zelos X to be a more substantial device than its low-cost pod kits, and buyers who browse the full pod kits collection will find that the more expensive options generally appeal to people who vape every day rather than occasionally.

How to choose between them comes down to three questions. How often will you vape? If it is every day, a sturdier and pricier device is easier to justify. How much do you want to tinker? If you enjoy adjusting things, the dearer kit is likelier to reward you. And how forgiving is your budget? If you would rather risk a tenner than forty pounds on a first refillable device, start at the low end and move up once you know your habits.

Upgrading later is not a waste, either. People who begin with an inexpensive kit often learn what they like, then step up to something like the Zelos X with a clear idea of strength, flavour and draw. Skipping straight to the top works too, as long as you accept that the device only improves a setup you have already thought through.

Choosing Between the Eight Finishes

Eight finishes sound like a lot, and choosing between them is mostly a matter of how you use the device day to day. The options are Aqua Blue, Black, Blue, Full Black, Gunmetal, Pink, Red and Silver. Each is available at the same price of £39.99, so there is no cost reason to favour one over another.

Start with practicalities. Darker finishes such as Black, Full Black and Gunmetal generally look tidy for longer, and they tend to hide fingerprints and the odd smear of liquid better than pale ones. Silver sits somewhere in the middle: it looks smart when clean, and it shows marks less than gloss black does, though a wipe now and then keeps it looking sharp. Pink, Red, Blue and Aqua Blue are the colours you will spot instantly at the bottom of a bag, which is quietly useful for something small and easy to misplace.

Next, think about who else is around. If you share a flat or a workplace with other vapers, a bright colour stops devices being swapped by accident. Equally, if you prefer discretion, a muted tone sits more quietly on a desk or in a pocket.

A small note on the two black options. Black and Full Black appear as separate choices, and the names suggest the second is the more uniform of the pair. Look closely at the product image and the option you tick before you add to basket, and if you are unsure which is which, get in touch with us before ordering. It costs nothing to ask, and it is cheaper than returning the wrong one.

Finally, the finish says nothing about performance. Every colour is the same device inside. Pick the one you are happiest to hold, because you will be holding it a lot. Availability can vary by colour from week to week, so if your first choice shows as out of stock, check back or pick the nearest alternative rather than waiting indefinitely.

Picking E-Liquid to Fill It With

A refillable kit is only as good as the liquid in it, and choosing well is the cheapest way to improve the experience. There are three broad routes, each with its own logic.

The first is ready-mixed nicotine e-liquid in 10ml bottles. This is the straightforward choice for a new refiller. Within it, nicotine salt e-liquids are the style most associated with small pod devices, because they deliver nicotine smoothly at higher strengths and are usually thinner, which suits tighter coils. Freebase liquids, the traditional style, are normally offered at lower strengths and are often thicker and used in more open systems. Which one your Zelos X likes best depends on its coil, and the leaflet or the coil packaging will usually tell you what range of liquid thickness it is designed for.

The second route is the short fill. A short fill is a larger bottle of nicotine-free liquid with headroom left at the top. It is great value for flavour and a good match for anyone who wants nicotine-free vaping. Those who do want nicotine can add nicotine shots to the spare space, though that adds a step and some maths, so we would not steer a first-timer that way.

The third route is nicotine-free e-liquid in smaller bottles, which suits experimenting with flavours before committing to a big bottle.

On flavour, think in families. Fruit and sweet profiles are the most forgiving and the easiest to live with. Ice and menthol add a cooling edge, which some people love and others find overwhelming after a few days. Dessert and bakery flavours are rich and tend to coat the coil faster, so they ask for slightly more frequent upkeep. A sensible approach is to buy two different bottles rather than one large one, so you have something to compare.

Whatever you choose, buy from a retailer that stocks sealed, labelled, genuine product. Unlabelled liquid and unknown sources are not worth the saving.

A Plain Guide to Nicotine Strength

Nicotine strength is the decision new refillers worry about most, and it is easy to get tangled up in jargon. Here is the short version, offered as general retail guidance and not as medical advice.

Strength is shown in milligrams of nicotine per millilitre of liquid. UK rules set the ceiling at 20mg for nicotine e-liquid, and bottles of nicotine liquid are capped at 10ml. Anything above 20mg is not legitimately sold here, so if you ever see a higher figure, walk away.

Nicotine salt liquids are most commonly sold at 10mg and 20mg. Freebase liquids are typically offered across a spread, with figures such as 3mg, 6mg, 12mg and 18mg all common. The two styles feel different at the same number, which is why a 20mg salt is not directly comparable with an 18mg freebase. Salts tend to feel smoother, so higher numbers are easier to tolerate, while freebase at high strength can feel harsher in the throat.

As a rough guide, adults who smoke heavily and are switching tend to begin at the higher end of a range, while lighter smokers and occasional vapers often prefer to start lower. If you are going the nicotine-free route, 0mg is the figure to look for, and the nicotine-free bottles on our shelves are grouped together to make that easy.

A few cautions are worth stating. First, a higher strength is not automatically better. Too much nicotine can leave you feeling jittery or queasy, and the sensible response is to drop to a lower strength, not to push through. Second, strength interacts with how you use the device. A restricted draw with a high-strength salt delivers a lot of nicotine quickly, so the combination can be more intense than you expect. Third, take your time. Many people change strength once or twice in the first fortnight as their habits settle.

If you are unsure, buy a single bottle at a middle strength and treat it as a trial. It is a cheaper experiment than a multipack at the wrong figure. And if you are under 18, pregnant, breastfeeding or do not already use nicotine, this guide is not for you.

Setting Up: First Fill, Priming and the First Draws

A good first session sets the tone for the whole life of a coil, so it pays to go slowly. What follows is the general routine for refillable pod and tank kits, and your leaflet takes precedence wherever it differs.

Unpack and inspect. Check that every piece in the box matches the leaflet, and look at the seals and the rubber rings for damage. Then wash your hands and take off any protective film from the mouthpiece or screen.

Charge before you fill. Plug the device into a USB charger using the cable provided, and let it charge while you prepare the rest. Most rechargeable kits show a light or a screen status, and the leaflet explains what each signal means.

Open the fill point. Refillable pods and tanks have a fill port, usually under a rubber bung or sliding cover. Open it, and hold the pod upright so that you can see the opening clearly. Do not pour into a central chimney, because that is the airway and flooding it is the surest way to cause a leak.

Fill to the line, not to the top. Add liquid slowly down the side of the pod, and stop before the maximum mark. Leave a small air gap. Overfilling is behind a surprising share of leaks and gurgling.

Let the coil soak. This is the step beginners skip. Close the port, refit the pod, and leave the device for five to ten minutes, so the cotton wick drinks up the liquid. A dry coil that is fired too early burns, and a burnt coil tastes bad and does not recover.

Take gentle first draws. Use a few short, soft pulls without holding for long, and let the coil warm up. If the device has adjustable airflow, start somewhere in the middle. If the flavour is muted at first, give it a few draws, because the wick is still saturating.

Wipe up. Clean the outside of the pod and the contact points with a dry tissue. Liquid on the connections can disturb the battery contact and cause erratic behaviour.

Once you have done this a couple of times it takes under a minute, and you will fill almost without looking.

Battery Habits, Charging and Storage

Good battery habits are dull and valuable. Followed consistently, they keep a rechargeable device running reliably and safely for far longer than a careless routine does.

Charge the device with the cable supplied, or with a good-quality cable of the right connector type. The leaflet confirms which connector your unit uses. Plug it into a reputable USB wall adaptor or a computer port, not into a mystery charger from a bargain bin. Cheap, unbranded chargers are the usual source of battery trouble.

Never leave a charging device unattended for hours, and avoid charging it under a pillow, on a sofa or on any soft surface where heat can build up. Put it on a hard surface in the open, and unplug it once it is full. We do not state charge times or battery capacity here because they are not part of the confirmed listing data, so go by the status light described in your leaflet.

Heat is the battery's enemy. Do not leave the kit on a car dashboard in summer, near a radiator or in direct sun on a windowsill. Cold affects it too: in a freezing pocket the battery may feel weak until it warms up. If the device becomes unusually hot, swollen or smells odd, stop using it, unplug it and contact the seller.

Think about where and how you carry it. A loose device in a bag with keys and coins can short against metal, so keep it in a pocket of its own or a small case. If you travel with e-liquid, keep the bottle upright and sealed, and put it in a bag that can cope with a leak. Pressure changes in the air can push liquid out of a full pod, so empty or part-empty it before a flight if you can.

For storage between uses, keep the kit upright in a cool, dry place away from children and pets. Store e-liquid bottles with their caps tight and out of sunlight, which degrades flavour over time. If you are leaving the device unused for weeks, empty the pod, wipe the mouthpiece and top the battery up occasionally rather than leaving it at zero for months.

Coils, Pods and Everyday Upkeep

The coil is the part you will pay for again, and it is worth learning when it needs replacing. Coils are consumables. A coil that is working well produces consistent flavour and vapour, and a worn one slowly gets worse until it is clearly spent.

Watch for the signs. Flavour that seems flat or muddy, a burnt or sharp aftertaste, noticeably reduced vapour, or a draw that feels harder than before are all common clues. The lifespan varies enormously with how you vape, and with the liquid itself. Sweet, thick or dessert liquids tend to build up residue on the coil faster than thin, fruity ones. Higher power also wears a coil faster. Rather than quoting a number of days that we cannot support, we suggest you note when you fitted a coil and replace it as soon as the taste turns, not when it fails outright.

Check what your kit takes before you order spares. Coils and pods are matched to specific devices, and the part number or compatibility list on the packaging is the thing to trust. Our coils range is organised by brand and type, and the refillable vape pods collection covers replacement pods. If you are unsure whether a part fits the Zelos X, ask us before buying, because a wrong coil is an annoying return.

Regular upkeep is light. Every few days, wipe the mouthpiece and the battery contacts with a dry cloth or a cotton bud. Every week or so, or whenever you change flavour, empty the pod, rinse it with lukewarm water, and let it dry completely before refilling. Water on a wet coil is a bad idea, so make sure it is bone dry. Never submerge the battery section, and never use harsh cleaners on the plastic or the metal finish.

When you swap flavours, run the pod empty, rinse, dry, and then fill with the new liquid. Otherwise you will taste the old flavour for a while, which is rarely pleasant. And keep a spare coil in your drawer, because a coil that dies on a Sunday evening is no fun when the shops are shut.

Troubleshooting Leaks, Dry Hits and Dead Batteries

Most problems with refillable kits are small, predictable and fixable at home. Work through the cause before you assume the device is faulty.

Leaking. The usual suspects are overfilling, a pod that is not seated properly, a damaged seal, or thin liquid in a pod designed for thicker. Empty the pod to below the max line, check the rubber bung is firmly closed, and wipe the base. Leaks are also common after a flight or after the device has been left on its side.

Gurgling. A bubbling sound or spitting usually means liquid has flooded the airway. Remove the pod, blow gently through the mouthpiece with the device pointing down, and wipe away what comes out. A little fresh air restores the draw.

Dry or burnt hits. The coil is not getting enough liquid, either because the pod is nearly empty, because it was not allowed to soak, or because it is worn. Refill and wait ten minutes. If the taste is still harsh, fit a new coil.

No vapour at all. Check the battery first and charge it for a while. Then check the pod is clicked in fully and the contacts are clean. If the device has a lock function, make sure it is switched off. Your leaflet explains how the lock works on your unit.

Weak flavour. A clogged coil or an old bottle is the usual reason. Try a different liquid to rule out the bottle.

If none of that helps and you suspect a fault, stop using the device. Our delivery and returns page explains that faulty items can be returned within 30 days for a replacement or refund, while opened e-liquids and pods cannot be returned for hygiene and safety reasons. Take a photo of the fault, keep the packaging, and contact us with your order number. We would sooner sort it out quickly than leave you with a kit that does not work.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Aspire Zelos X Kit come with e-liquid?

No. The Zelos X Kit is sold as hardware only, which is why the listing shows 0mg. There is no nicotine or liquid in the product, so you need to buy a bottle separately. Choose one in the strength and flavour you want, fill the pod or tank, let the coil soak for a few minutes and you are ready to go. Check the leaflet in the box for the exact contents of your unit.

Is the Aspire Zelos X a disposable vape?

No. It is a rechargeable, refillable kit. You charge the battery, fill the reservoir with your own e-liquid and replace the coil when it wears out. That is the opposite of a disposable, which is a sealed single-use device. Because it is refillable there is no fixed puff count; how long a fill lasts depends on how often and how hard you draw.

Which colours does the Zelos X Kit come in?

The listing offers eight finishes: Aqua Blue, Black, Blue, Full Black, Gunmetal, Pink, Red and Silver. They all cost £39.99 and the device inside is the same whichever you choose. Stock can vary by colour, so the options shown on the product page are the best guide to what is ready to dispatch today.

What nicotine strength should I use with it?

That depends on you, because the kit itself contains no nicotine. UK nicotine e-liquid is capped at 20mg. Nicotine salts are commonly sold at 10mg and 20mg, and freebase at lower strengths such as 3mg to 18mg. Many adults who smoke heavily begin higher and lighter users begin lower. If you want no nicotine at all, choose 0mg or nicotine-free liquid.

Can I use nicotine salt e-liquid in the Zelos X?

Many people pair nicotine salts with pod-style devices because the liquid is thin and the nicotine is smooth at higher strengths. Whether salt or freebase suits your unit best depends on its coil, which is covered in the leaflet. If the leaflet recommends a liquid range, follow it. Avoid very thick liquids unless the instructions say they are suitable.

How often will I need to replace the coil?

There is no single answer, because coil life depends on the liquid, how often you vape and how the device is set. Sweet, thick liquids shorten it. A sensible rule is to replace the coil when flavour turns flat, burnt or harsh, not on a fixed date. Keep a spare coil on hand so a worn one never leaves you without a working device.

How much does delivery cost, and how fast is it?

Standard UK delivery is free on orders over £20 and takes two to three working days. Under £20 it costs £2.99. Next-day delivery costs £4.99 when you order before 4pm on a weekday. Orders placed before 4pm on a working day are dispatched the same day. The Zelos X at £39.99 qualifies for free standard delivery on its own.

Can I return the kit if I change my mind?

Our returns page says faulty items can be returned within 30 days for a replacement or refund, while opened e-liquids, disposables and pods cannot be returned for hygiene and safety reasons. If you have a question about returning an unused kit, contact us before sending anything back so we can tell you what applies to your order.

Do I need to be over 18 to buy it?

Yes. Sales are strictly 18+. We age-verify every order electronically and may ask for ID before dispatch where a check is inconclusive. This kit is designed for adults who already use nicotine. Nicotine is addictive and is not suitable for non-smokers, under-18s, or anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding. Please keep a valid form of photo ID to hand in case we need to check.

What else should I order with the Zelos X Kit?

At the very least, a bottle of e-liquid, because none is supplied. A spare coil or replacement pod is a smart extra once you have checked compatibility with your unit. If you plan to experiment with flavours, two smaller bottles are better value than one big one. Beyond that, a clean tissue and a lint-free cloth make upkeep easier.
