Elf Bar ELFX 2 Pod Kit overview

The Elf Bar ELFX 2 Pod Kit is a compact, rechargeable pod system built around a small battery body and swappable, prefilled pods. Rather than throwing away the whole device when the e-liquid runs out, you keep the battery and replace only the pod. That is a meaningful difference from the single-use vapes many UK shoppers used to buy, and it is the reason a kit like this remains on sale now that single-use disposables are banned across the UK.

Elf Bar built its name on easy, fruit-led flavours and a no-fuss approach: no buttons to learn, no tanks to fill, no coils to prime. The ELFX line carries that thinking into a reusable format. You click a pod into the battery, draw on the mouthpiece and the device does the rest. The 2 in the name points to the updated version of the kit, so if you have used the original ELFX, the layout and pod format will feel familiar.

This page covers the practical questions a buyer actually has: how many puffs a pod gives you, what the flavours taste like, how long the battery lasts, how the mesh coil behaves, which nicotine strength makes sense, and how the kit compares with rivals at a similar price. Where we quote figures, they are the typical numbers for this class of device and Elf Bar's own ratings. Always check the specification table on this product page for the exact values on the unit you are buying, because manufacturers adjust pod and battery details between production runs.

Key points at a glance:

  • Format: reusable battery body with magnetic, prefilled replacement pods
  • Pod capacity: 2ml per pod, the maximum size allowed for nicotine pods and tanks in the UK
  • Nicotine: 20mg/ml (2%), the UK ceiling for nicotine e-liquid
  • Heating: mesh coil built into each pod
  • Charging: USB-C
  • Activation: draw-activated, no button to press
  • Range: eight flavours in the family

Vaping is intended for adults who already smoke or vape. It is not risk-free, it contains nicotine which is addictive, and you must be 18 or over to buy it. If you do not currently use nicotine, this product is not for you.

How the ELFX 2 pod system works

The kit has two parts: a rechargeable battery and a prefilled pod. The pod holds the e-liquid and the heating coil together in one sealed unit, and it snaps onto the battery with a magnetic connection. When you inhale, an airflow sensor in the battery detects the draw and sends power to the coil. The coil heats the liquid, the liquid turns to vapour, and you inhale it through the mouthpiece on the pod.

Because the coil is part of the pod, you replace the coil every time you replace the pod. That is the main reason closed-pod systems like this feel consistent: the coil is always fresh when the liquid is fresh, so you rarely get the muted flavour that comes from a worn coil in a refillable tank. The trade-off is that you are tied to the manufacturer's pods and cannot fill them with e-liquid of your own choosing.

What you can expect in the box of a typical ELFX kit:

  • One rechargeable battery body
  • One prefilled pod in the flavour you choose
  • A USB-C charging cable or a note on how to charge, depending on the batch
  • A leaflet with the safety warnings and the required nicotine health notice

Check the product listing for exactly what ships with your flavour, because some bundles include a spare pod and others do not. Replacement pods are sold separately in the same flavours, so once you have the battery you only need to reorder pods.

This design suits people who want the simplest possible routine. There is no refilling, no coil changes, no resistance to match and no wattage to set. It also keeps the learning curve flat for anyone moving across from cigarettes or from a basic single-use device. If you enjoy tinkering with airflow, wattage and your own e-liquid blends, a refillable pod or tank system will give you more control, and we cover that comparison further down.

Performance and puff delivery

Elf Bar rates a standard ELFX pod at roughly 600 puffs per 2ml pod at 20mg/ml. Treat that as a guide rather than a promise. Puff counts are calculated under lab conditions with short, even draws, and your own use will land above or below the figure depending on how you vape.

In everyday use, the factors that change pod life most are:

  • Draw length: long, slow draws use more liquid per puff than short pulls, so a pod lasts fewer puffs but delivers more vapour each time
  • Frequency: heavy, chain-style use drains a pod in a day or two, whereas occasional use can stretch one pod across a week or more
  • Temperature and storage: a pod left in a hot car can thin the liquid and cause leaking, which shortens life

Most adult smokers who switch fully tend to get through a pod in one to three days. People using it as an occasional alternative, perhaps a handful of puffs after a meal or when out with friends, can stretch a pod much further.

The throat hit at 20mg/ml is firm but not harsh when the vapour is warm rather than hot. The mesh coil heats quickly, so there is almost no delay between drawing and feeling vapour, and the output stays steady through the life of the pod until the liquid runs low. Vapour production is moderate. This is a mouth-to-lung device, meaning you draw into your mouth first and inhale second, the same rhythm as a cigarette. It is not designed for the big, airy clouds produced by sub-ohm devices.

The final stretch of a pod is worth knowing about. When the liquid drops below the wick, the coil can run dry and you will notice a toasted or burnt taste. If you taste that, stop and swap the pod instead of pushing through. Burnt coil taste is unpleasant and means the pod is finished rather than faulty.

Overall, the kit performs the way its category promises: reliable, predictable and easy. It does not offer the adjustable output of a mod, and it is not trying to.

Flavour profile and the eight-flavour family

The ELFX 2 family is available in eight flavours, and the lineup leans on the fruit, ice and sweet profiles Elf Bar is known for. Availability changes by batch, so use the flavour selector on this page for the current stock. Here are some of the profiles you can expect to see and what they taste like in practice:

  • Blue Razz Ice: a tangy blue raspberry with a cool exhale. Sweet up front, with a sharper edge that stops it tasting syrupy.
  • Strawberry Ice: ripe strawberry with a light menthol finish. A simple, easy flavour that suits all-day vaping.
  • Watermelon Ice: juicy and clean, with the cooling effect pushing through on the exhale rather than the inhale.
  • Cherry Cola: dark cherry layered over a soft cola fizz. Less sweet than the fruit-and-ice options and a good change of pace.
  • Pink Lemonade: citrus-forward with a sweet-sour balance, similar to a cold shop-bought lemonade.
  • Blueberry Sour Raspberry: a layered mix where the sour raspberry cuts through the blueberry sweetness.
  • Spearmint or mint-style options: for anyone who prefers a cool, clean taste with no fruit at all.

All of these are designed to deliver flavour from the first puff, and the mesh coil helps by vaporising the liquid evenly. Ice and menthol flavours use a cooling agent that is noticeable but not overpowering. If you find cooling flavours too sharp, choose one without the ice label.

A few practical tips when choosing:

  • New to vaping: start with a straightforward fruit such as Strawberry or Watermelon. They are forgiving and not overly sweet.
  • Moving from menthol cigarettes: a mint or ice flavour will feel closest to what you are used to.
  • Easily bored: because pods are sold separately, you can buy two or three different flavours and swap between them on the same battery.

Flavour fade, sometimes called vaper's tongue, is common with sweet profiles after several days of exclusive use. If a favourite starts tasting flat, try a different flavour for a day or two before you decide the pod is faulty. Nine times out of ten the pod is fine and your palate just needs a break.

Design and build quality

The ELFX 2 is a slim, pocketable device with a rounded rectangular body, designed to sit in the hand without looking like a gadget. The battery is a one-piece shell with a small LED indicator, and the pod slides onto the top and locks into place magnetically. That magnetic fit is easy to use with one hand and gives you a satisfying click when the pod is seated correctly.

The shell is moulded plastic with a smooth, slightly soft-touch finish that resists fingerprints better than glossy plastic. In day-to-day carry, the surface will pick up light scratches if you keep the kit in a pocket with keys or coins, so a small pouch or a separate pocket helps. The finish colour varies by flavour, and Elf Bar usually matches the body colour to the flavour theme, which makes it easy to tell several kits apart.

Points that matter in daily use:

  • Weight and size: light enough that you will forget it is in a jacket pocket, and small enough to fit in a trouser pocket without a bulge
  • Mouthpiece: a rounded, flat-oval tip that sits comfortably between the lips, with no sharp edges
  • Airflow: fixed. There is no adjustable airflow ring, which keeps the draw consistent but removes the option to tighten or loosen it
  • Pod seating: the magnet keeps the pod firmly in place, and a poorly seated pod is the most common cause of a device not firing

Build quality is in line with other mainstream pod kits at this price. The seams are tidy, the charging port is recessed and the pod fits without wobble. There are no moving parts to break, because there is no button, no sliding airflow and no screw-on tank. That simplicity is a durability advantage: fewer parts means fewer failure points.

The pods themselves are sealed to prevent liquid escaping in your bag, but they are not waterproof, and the battery is not rated against water ingress. Keep the kit away from rain and wet pockets. If the device gets wet, let it dry fully before charging.

Battery life and USB-C charging

The ELFX 2 uses a built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery in the region of 500mAh, which is typical for compact prefilled pod kits. Because the battery is sealed into the body, you cannot swap it, so it is worth treating it with a little care.

A 500mAh-class battery is usually enough to empty a standard 2ml pod before it needs a recharge, or very close to it, if your use is moderate. Heavier users will often top up once during the life of a pod. The mesh coil draws power efficiently, so the battery tends to last longer than the equivalent capacity on an older cotton-coil device.

Charging is by USB-C, which most people already have cables for. Expect a full charge to take roughly an hour from empty. Some points to keep in mind:

  • Use a standard phone-style charger or a computer USB port. A fast-charge brick is unnecessary and does not make the device charge any faster.
  • Check the LED. It usually indicates charging with a steady or pulsing light and turns off or changes colour when finished.
  • Do not leave the device charging overnight on a soft surface such as a duvet or sofa cushion. Charge it on a hard, clear surface and unplug it when it is done.
  • Do not use a damaged cable or a charger that is overheating.
  • If the battery is very low, the device may stop firing and the LED may flash. Charge it before using it again.

Lithium-ion batteries last longest when they are not repeatedly run completely flat or left at full charge in hot conditions. A sensible routine is to plug in when the LED starts warning you and unplug when it is full. Over many months, the battery capacity will slowly fall, which is normal for any rechargeable device.

At the end of its life, the battery must be disposed of properly. Do not put the device in household rubbish or general recycling bins, because lithium-ion cells are a fire risk in bin lorries and sorting plants. We cover safe disposal and UK drop-off points in the value and recycling section below.

Mesh coil technology

Each ELFX pod includes a mesh coil, which is the heating element that turns e-liquid into vapour. Older pod devices used a round wire wrapped around a cotton wick. A mesh coil replaces the wire with a thin, flat sheet of metal etched with tiny holes, pressed against the cotton.

The difference in practice comes down to surface area. A flat mesh has more contact with the wick than a thin wire, so it heats the liquid more evenly and more quickly. That brings several benefits you can feel:

  • Faster response: vapour arrives almost as soon as you start drawing
  • More even flavour: because the liquid heats uniformly, there are fewer hot spots that scorch the e-liquid and flatten the taste
  • Consistent vapour: output holds steadier through the life of the pod
  • Better efficiency: less energy is wasted, which helps the battery last

There are trade-offs. Mesh coils are more sensitive to being run dry, because the large surface can overheat quickly when the wick has not absorbed enough liquid. That is why the pod needs a short soak after you fit it, and why you should not keep drawing on a pod that is almost empty. They are also less forgiving of thick, sugary liquids, which can build up on the coil. Elf Bar tunes the liquid in each pod to suit the coil, which is another benefit of using manufacturer-matched pods rather than mixing your own.

For most users, the mesh coil is the main reason a modern prefilled pod tastes cleaner and feels smoother than the older generation. Because it is sealed inside a pod that you replace regularly, you never need to clean or rewick it. That removes one of the few maintenance chores vaping used to involve.

Resistance is set at the factory and cannot be adjusted. The power delivered to the coil is managed by the battery's circuit, which keeps the output stable as the battery level falls and shuts the device off if it senses a fault such as a short circuit or a sustained draw.

Nicotine strength and UK rules

In the UK, nicotine e-liquid is capped at 20mg/ml, equal to 2%. The ELFX 2 pods are sold at that maximum strength, so there is no lower-strength option inside this particular family. Pods and tanks for nicotine products are also limited to 2ml of capacity, which is why the pod is the size it is.

It helps to understand what 20mg/ml means in practice. This is the strength nicotine salts are typically sold at, and nicotine salts feel smoother in the throat at high strength than the freebase nicotine used in older vape liquids. A 20mg salt pod delivers nicotine quickly, closer to the way a cigarette does, which is why it works for people moving away from smoking.

Guidance on choosing a strength:

  • Smoking around 10 or more cigarettes a day: 20mg/ml is the sensible starting point. Lower strength may leave you reaching for a cigarette.
  • Smoking fewer than 10 a day, or social smoking: 20mg may be stronger than you need. If you find it too intense, consider a device that offers 10mg or lower.
  • Already vaping at low strength: a 20mg pod will feel much stronger than you are used to. Take shorter, less frequent puffs.
  • Never smoked or vaped: do not start. Nicotine is addictive.

Signs that the strength is too high include light-headedness, nausea, a racing heart, headaches or a hot, scratchy throat. If you notice any of these, stop vaping and drink some water. If you find 20mg consistently too strong, speak to a stop-smoking service or choose a lower-strength product.

The retail rules matter too. You must be 18 to buy any nicotine vape in the UK, and we may ask for age verification at checkout or on delivery. The product carries a mandatory health warning on the pack. Vapes are also not a licensed medical product here, and we do not make claims that they treat or cure anything. Smokers who want to quit can get free support from local stop-smoking services and from the NHS.

Keep pods, batteries and chargers away from children and pets. Pods contain concentrated nicotine, and accidental swallowing or skin contact with leaked liquid needs medical attention.

Who the ELFX 2 suits, and who should skip it

No device suits everyone, so here is an honest view of where this kit fits.

It is a good fit for:

  • Adult smokers looking for a cigarette alternative: the mouth-to-lung draw, 20mg nicotine salt and tight airflow resemble the feel of smoking
  • People moving on from single-use vapes: you get the same simple routine, without throwing away a battery each time
  • Vapers who dislike maintenance: no filling, no coil changes, no tuning
  • People who value discretion: the vapour output is moderate and the device is small
  • Anyone who likes variety: swap between flavour pods on the same battery

You might want to skip it if:

  • You want to save money in the long run: prefilled pods cost more per ml than bottled e-liquid used in a refillable device
  • You want big clouds or adjustable power: this is not a sub-ohm or variable wattage device
  • You want to choose your own e-liquid: the pods are sealed and not meant to be refilled
  • You are sensitive to nicotine: the fixed 20mg/ml strength may be too much
  • You do not already use nicotine: this is not a product for non-smokers or anyone under 18
  • You regularly vape very heavily: you will get through pods quickly and the cost will add up

It also helps to think about your vaping routine. If you tend to take a few puffs here and there through the day, a pod will last a good while, and the kit's convenience outweighs the higher per-ml cost. If you vape constantly, you may find a refillable pod system a more economical fit, because a bottle of e-liquid costs less than the equivalent number of prefilled pods.

Finally, remember that the goal for most adult smokers is to stop smoking entirely. Using a vape alongside cigarettes, rather than replacing them, delivers little benefit. If you are looking to quit, it is worth combining a device like this with advice from a local stop-smoking service.

How to use and activate the ELFX 2

Setting up the kit takes a minute, and there is nothing to configure. Follow these steps for a clean start.

  • Step 1, charge the battery. Even if the device lights up out of the box, a short charge is a good habit. Plug the USB-C cable into the battery and into a standard USB power source.
  • Step 2, remove packaging. Take the pod out of any wrapping. Check that the mouthpiece is free of any plastic cap or film, and that the pod has no visible cracks or leaked liquid.
  • Step 3, attach the pod. Line up the pod with the top of the battery and press it down until you feel the magnet click it into place. The contacts on the bottom of the pod must meet the contacts in the battery.
  • Step 4, wait a moment. Give a new pod a minute or two to let the cotton wick absorb the liquid. Drawing on it immediately can produce a dry or burnt taste.
  • Step 5, take a gentle draw. The device is draw-activated, so you simply inhale on the mouthpiece. There is no button. The LED may light briefly with each puff.

A few habits will make the kit more enjoyable and longer lasting:

  • Take slow, steady draws of two to four seconds. Rapid, forceful puffs can pull liquid into the mouthpiece or cause gurgling.
  • Pause for ten to twenty seconds between puffs if you are taking several in a row, so the coil can recover and the wick can re-saturate.
  • Store the kit upright where possible, so liquid stays near the coil rather than pooling.
  • Keep the contacts clean. If you notice the device not firing, wipe the contacts on the pod and battery with a dry cotton bud.
  • To change a pod, simply pull the old one off and press the new one on. There is no need to turn anything off.

When the pod is empty, you will notice weaker flavour, a hotter draw or a burnt taste. At that point, replace the pod. Do not attempt to refill it, because the pods are not designed for that and refilling can cause leaks, poor coil performance and safety risks.

Troubleshooting common problems

Most problems with pod kits have simple fixes. Work through the likely causes before assuming the device is faulty.

The device does not fire when I draw

  • Remove the pod and reseat it firmly until it clicks into place.
  • Wipe the metal contacts on both the pod and the battery with a dry cloth or cotton bud.
  • Check the battery. If the LED flashes or shows nothing, charge it for at least thirty minutes.
  • Try a different pod, if you have one, to rule out a faulty pod.

I get a burnt or dry taste

  • The pod may be nearly empty. Check the liquid level through the pod window if it has one.
  • If the pod is new, you may have drawn on it too soon. Wait a few minutes for the wick to saturate, then take gentle puffs.
  • Avoid chain vaping, which can dry the wick out faster than it can refill.

The flavour seems weak

  • Try another flavour for a day, since vaper's tongue is common.
  • Check that the pod is seated correctly.
  • Make sure you are drawing slowly. Very quick puffs reduce flavour.

There is liquid in the mouthpiece or I hear gurgling

  • This is usually condensation from the vapour cooling inside the pod. Wipe the mouthpiece and take a gentle puff away from your mouth to clear it.
  • Do not blow back through the device.
  • Avoid leaving the kit in hot places, which can expand the liquid and cause leaks.

The device will not charge

  • Try a different cable and a different power source.
  • Check the USB-C port for lint or debris and clear it gently with a wooden toothpick.
  • If the device has been left in cold conditions, let it come to room temperature first.

The battery drains very quickly

  • This can occur if the battery is ageing. Capacity falls over many charge cycles.
  • It can also be caused by frequent heavy use. If it happens within the first weeks, contact us about a faulty unit.

If none of these steps work, stop using the device and contact us with your order number and a short description of the fault. Do not try to open the battery, because lithium-ion cells can be dangerous if damaged.

Value for money, rival kits and recycling

The ELFX 2 sits in the mainstream prefilled-pod bracket. The kit itself is priced as an entry point, and the running cost comes from replacement pods. To judge value, divide the pod price by the roughly 600 puffs it is rated for, then compare that with how long a pod lasts in your own routine. For a light to moderate user, the cost per day is reasonable. For heavy users, the cost climbs, and a refillable system can work out cheaper.

Here is how the kit compares with other common options, with a fair view of each.

  • Versus single-use vapes: single-use disposables are banned from sale in the UK. A reusable kit gives a similar level of convenience while creating far less waste, since only the pod is replaced.
  • Versus Vuse ePod 2: the Vuse system is another closed pod format with a strong presence in UK shops. Its flavour range is generally narrower, with a heavier tobacco and menthol emphasis, while Elf Bar leans fruit and ice. Pick the one whose flavours you prefer.
  • Versus refillable pod kits such as Oxva Xlim or Uwell Caliburn: these let you choose your own e-liquid and usually cost less per ml over time, and several offer adjustable airflow. They require more handling, since you fill pods, change coils and occasionally clean them. If you want a no-effort device, the ELFX 2 is simpler. If you want control and lower running costs, a refillable kit is a better match.
  • Versus other prefilled pod kits from rival brands: the formats are similar, and differences come down to flavour range, battery size and price. Pods are not interchangeable between brands, so you are committing to one ecosystem when you buy the battery.

On balance, the ELFX 2 offers fair value for people who prize simplicity, a broad flavour choice and a familiar Elf Bar taste. It is not the cheapest way to vape over a year, and we would not suggest otherwise. Check the current price of pods on the site before you buy the battery, so you know what the ongoing cost will be.

Recycling and disposal. Vapes contain a lithium-ion battery and electronic components, so they must not go in household rubbish or kerbside recycling. In the UK, retailers that sell vaping products are required to take back used devices, and you can also use household waste recycling centres and designated battery or small electrical item drop-off points. Many supermarkets and DIY stores have collection bins. Empty pods should go the same way as the battery, because they contain a coil and residual liquid. Keeping the used pods and old batteries out of general waste prevents fires and lets the metals be recovered.

Frequently asked questions

What nicotine strength does the Elf Bar ELFX 2 Pod Kit use?

The pods are sold at 20mg/ml (2%), which is the maximum strength allowed for nicotine e-liquid in the UK. This suits adult smokers who want a cigarette-like hit. If you find 20mg too strong, a lower-strength product from another range may suit you better.

How do I charge the ELFX 2 and how long does it take?

Charge the battery through the USB-C port using a standard phone charger or computer USB port. A full charge usually takes about an hour from empty. Charge it on a hard surface, do not leave it plugged in unattended overnight, and stop using any damaged cable.

Can I swap flavours, and are the pods interchangeable?

Yes. The ELFX 2 family has eight flavours, and pods in the family click onto the same battery, so you can change flavour whenever you like. Pods from other brands are not designed to fit, so always buy ELFX pods that are listed as compatible on this page.

How long does one pod last?

Each 2ml pod is rated at roughly 600 puffs. Real life varies with your draw length and how often you vape. Many daily users get through a pod in one to three days, while lighter users can stretch a pod over a week or more.

Is the ELFX 2 good value for money?

It offers fair value for people who want a simple, no-maintenance device with plenty of flavour choice. The running cost per ml is higher than a refillable pod kit, so heavy vapers who want the lowest cost may prefer a refillable system. Compare pod prices before you buy.

Who should buy this kit, and who should avoid it?

It suits adult smokers and existing vapers who want a convenient, reusable pod system with a mouth-to-lung draw. It is not suitable for anyone under 18, for non-smokers, or for people who want adjustable power, big clouds or their own e-liquid.

Can I refill the pods or use my own e-liquid?

No. The pods are prefilled and sealed, and they are not intended to be refilled. Refilling can cause leaks and poor coil performance, and it may be unsafe. When a pod is empty, replace it with a new one.

Do you deliver across the UK, and is age verification needed?

We deliver to addresses across the UK, with delivery options shown at checkout. You must be 18 or over to buy, and we may ask for age verification at checkout or on delivery. Check our delivery information page for current times and costs.

What if my kit arrives faulty, and how do I recycle it?

If your kit arrives damaged or faulty, contact us promptly with your order number and we will help with a replacement or a refund under our returns policy. For disposal, take used devices and pods to a retailer take-back point, a household recycling centre or a battery drop-off point, never to household rubbish.
